Finding Her True Alpha -
Chapter 147: Missing Something
Mason
Ashlyn looked beautiful as she walked through the back garden of Fae Castle. l couldn’t take my eyes off of her as she walked between the tall cherry blossom trees.
Her auburn hair, looking more copper under the afternoon sun. Her skin glowed as she looked genuinely happy walking over to us, even after the Fae princess smashed her cake into her shirt. Ashlyn looked so sexy covered in cake, and I made sure to let her know. Derek and I both watched as Jordan led her into the castle to get cleaned up.
Gabby came over with a piece of cake for Derek and I. Being careful as she carried both plates. Looking at the icing, Ashlyn would never get the pink and green out of her shirt.
“Thank you Gabby bear, come sit, we can share,” Derek told her. She hesitated at first, but then went to sit with him. He was trying so hard to win her over. I think his dragon aura is scaring her, with her being a wolf witch.
Aurora came over with more cake and climbed into my lap like she owned the place. James was going to have his hands full with her.
“Gabby, you have two dads?” Aurora asked her.
Gabby looked over her shoulder at Derek and he leaned down to whisper to her.
“Whenever you’re ready.” He k!ssed her cheek. She smiled at Aurora, nodding her head.
“Really? I wish I had two dads.” Aurora said before shoving an enormous piece of cake into her mouth. I looked over at Derek and he was just shaking his head, trying not to laugh.
Jordan came back out without Ashlyn looking deep in thought as he came to sit at our table. He finally snapped out of it when he saw his daughter sitting in my lap shoving cake into her face. Aurora is a lot like Ashlyn.
“Aurora.” Jordan tried to scold her, but she looked too damn cute, her face covered in icing.
“I’m sorry, Mason.” He said, and I waved him off.
“It’s fine.” I told him.
“Ashlyn said she’d be out in a minute.” He told us.
“Daddy, why don’t | have two dads?” Aurora asked him and I couldn’t help but laugh at the face Jordan made.
“What?” He asked, stunned.
“Gabby has two dads. Why can’t I have two dads?” She asked him. Jordan looked at both Derek and me before he answered.
“Go ask your mother.” He told her. Aurora squealed before jumping off my lap. She grabbed Gabby, and they both ran off together.
“Passing off the question?” Derek chuckled, and Jordan let out a breath.
“Maybe it will stun her so badly that shell go into labor.” Jordan sighed and Derek and I both chuckled.
“She can’t be that bad?” Derek asked him and he gave him a look.
“Aurora is a mini version of Melanie,” Jordan said.
“Aren’t you just a lucky son of a b**h?” Derek laughed.
“Both of you should just wait until you have a daughter just like Ashlyn,” he said, and I looked at Derek.
“I officially want no more kids.” Derek said, and Jordan and I started laughing. Like Derek has a choice. If Ashlyn wants more kids, she will get them out of us.
“Apparently, you haven’t met Ashlyn.” I chuckled, and Derek gave me a look before he sighed.
“She’s going to get what she wants.”
“They always get what they want.” Jordan chuckled, and I nodded.
“The joys of being mated to a strong woman,” I told him.
“But she is very understanding. She wasn’t upset at all about her shirt being ruined,” Jordan said.
“She’s understanding until it comes to her safety. She wasn’t happy about all the warriors we brought with us,” I told him.
“Still nothing about that Ryan guy?” He asked me and I shook my head.
“Nothing that has led to anything,” I told him.
“I don’t think he’s Fae. My men would have found him by now. So he must be a warlock,” Jordan said, and I nodded.
“I’ll get Nathan on it.” Derek said.
I was starting to worry about what was taking Ashlyn so long. I tried to mindlink her, but l couldn’t reach her. Derek noticed that my demeanor changed.
“Mason, what’s wrong?” He asked me.
“Ashlyn, she’s not back yet and I can’t get through to her.” I told him. As soon as her panic flowed through to me, I looked at Derek and knew he felt it.
“l can’t reach her either.” He said, panicked as he stood up from his chair. He must have mindlinked Lance because I saw him take off into the castle. Jordan was up, running into the castle with us on his heels.
He ran down a hallway, and I could smell her, but her scent never left the hallway. She walked in but never left.
“This is where | left her:” Jordan rushed out as we all looked for her.
“Who else is in the castle?” Derek rushed out.
“My father and my trusted servants,” Jordan answered him.
“Your father would have been mated to Ashlyn’s mother,” I said out loud, and he nodded. I looked at Derek, and he was thinking the same thing.
“Find your father,” I told him and he nodded, running off further into the castle. Derek checked all the rooms while I mindlinked Brandon.
“We are going to need Sage. Ashlyn is missing.” I told him.
“Where are you?” He asked.
“Enter the back right door and follow my scent.” I told him. It didn’t take him and Sage long before they caught up with us. Sage didn’t have James, and I gave her a look before she explained.
“He’s with the Fae Queen. Gabby is also with her.”
Sage said, and I let out a breath. Now we just have to find our mate.
“Sage, we are going to need you to track her.” Derek said, rushing over to us.
“Her scent doesn’t leave this spot, so she must have been portalled out. But why wouldn’t she have fought?
Even without her magic, she is still powerful.” Sage said. And I couldn’t answer her. She wouldn’t have gone willingly.
Jordan came rushing back after looking for his father, and I immediately knew something was wrong.
“He’s not in his office and no one has seen him.” He rushed out.
“Has he ever said anything about Ashlyn’s mother or Ashlyn?” l asked him and he shook his head.
“We should check out his office to see what we can find out” Derek said, and Jordan nodded.
“I’m going to go find James’ bag. There should be something of Ashlyn’s in there.” Sage said before she rushed off.
Brandon went with her, while Derek and I followed Jordan to the other side of the castle to his father’s office. How could we have missed this? And then we just walked in here and handed him Ashlyn.
Jordan started going through files on his father’s desk when we entered his office. I could tell that Jordan felt guilty about what was happening. Derek started opening drawers in the desk while I was looking over the bookshelves to see if anything stood out.
Derek pulled his desk apart, trying to find something that would lead us to where Ashlyn had been taken. I found nothing unusual in his office, and neither did Jordan.
“Where the f**k could she be?” I growled out. I was getting impatient, as I could feel her fear bleeding through the bond. Wherever she was, she was scared.
“Mason, get out here.” Brandon said in my head.
“Brandon needs us.” I announced, and Jordan led us back to the back garden. I never would have found my way out of this place if it wasn’t for Jordan leading the way.
“Brandon, what did you find?” I asked him when we made it outside. Both he and Sage were waiting by the back door for us.
“I found her, but you will never guess where she is?” Sage told us.
“Where is she?” Derek rushed out, beating me to it.
“She’s in the middle of the Atlantic.” She told us and I was shocked.
“F**k!” Jordan yelled out, and we all turned our attention to him
“We have a summer home on an island out in the Atlantic,” Jordan told us.
“That can’t be a consequence. It has to be your father. But why?” I said and Jordan shrugged.
“Ashlyn will be too weak to portal herself home from there.” Sage said, and I pinched the bridge of my nose.
“Then how the hell do we get in there and get her out?” Derek growled, frustrated by this entire situation. I was feeling the same way, but we couldn’t safely portal to the island. They would know that we could track her and portal in. They would be prepared for that.
“Sage, what do we do?” I asked her.
“Mason, I don’t know. They would expect us to portal in, but Ashlyn wouldn’t be strong enough to open a portal, not that far anyway. Her magic is still recovering.” Sage told me.
“Freya could make that journey.” Derek chimed in.
“But how do we communicate with her? We won’t know if she is safe and on her way home,” I said, and Derek sighed.
“F**k” I breathed out.
“Sage, open a portal for me and Derek, and we will get her.” l told them. I couldn’t wait around to see if she ends up being safe.
“What the hell is that?” Brandon said, pointing to the back of the garden. It looked like someone opened up a portal, but nothing came through as it closed. We could see enough of the portal to know that no one stepped through.
Before we could rush over to inspect what happened, the ground shook. Green light glowed up through the cracks as the ground crumbled in the middle of the garden and a massive metal box came out from underneath the ground.
“What the f**k is that?” l yelled over the noise.
We heard Ashlyn let out a b***d-chilling scream, but before we could get to her, we saw her shift into Freya’s massive white dragon. She swooped down, grabbing the box in her talons and took to the sky. It’s then I saw that there was a countdown on the steel box, flashing its bright red numbers.
“Bomb!” I screamed, pointing up to the box. The warriors rushed to gather everyone up as Derek and I watched as Freya climbed higher into the sky until we couldn’t see her.
“What the f**k did we miss?” Derek yelled out.
“I don’t know, but I think you need to shift.”
