Chapter 131

Upon hearing the sound, Sienna put down her fork and hurriedly went to meet him.

“Sienna,” said Cedric.

*Cedric? What are you…” Sienna was puzzled.

Not wanting to discuss it in the open, Sienna gestured toward the parlor, and the two of them went inside to talk.

“Sienna.” Cedric lowered his head, filled with guilt and self–blame. His voice was rushed and unsure. “I messed up. I didn’t think my mom would come find you. Whatever she said, don’t take it to heart. Please don’t be angry…

“Don’t worry.” Sienna, in contrast to him, was much calmer. “I’m not angry. Mrs. Brawne was only speaking the truth.”

“Sienna?” Cedric was taken aback, sensing something was off.

“Sienna.” Sienna let out a soft sigh. “What your mother said is all true. That’s also why I rejected you that day. From now on, it’s best if we don’t meet again.”

“No!” Before she could finish, Cedric quickly interrupted her.

His handsome face twisted with pain. “Sienna, please don’t say that.”

He was clearly in distress. “It’s my fault. I didn’t handle things right. I never expected my mom to do this. Sienna, I really like you.

“Finding the right person isn’t easy, and I don’t want to give up… I can’t just give up. Please don’t just shut me down like this, okay?”

“But…” Sienna shook her head, unable to agree.

“Listen to me. Parents always have their reasons for opposing relationships. In most cases, when parents are against a relationship, it never ends well,” she added.

“You said most cases.” Cedric’s anxiety was growing. His voice rose by an octave. “That doesn’t mean all. How can we know it won’t work if we don’t even try?”

Sienna was momentarily at a loss for words, speechless.

“What’s going on?” In the restaurant, Miranda, unable to sit still, stood up and walked toward the parlor. “I’ll go take a look.”

“I’ll come with you.” Josiah quickly followed her.

Miranda shot him a look. “What’s going on with them? Do you know anything?”

“I don’t,” Josiah replied, shaking his head firmly.

This was Sienna’s personal matter, and whether or not to tell Miranda was up to her. He wouldn’t interfere.

Miranda arrived at the parlor and glanced at the two of them. “What’s going on? Did you two have an argument, or is something else going on? Can you tell me?”

“It’s nothing,” Cedric remembered Miranda had once said she would help if there were ever obstacles. But he wasn’t planning to ask her for help.

He knew his parents. If Miranda got involved, it would only make his parents dislike Sienna even more.

He glanced at Sienna. “It’s my fault. I made Sienna upset.

“Oh, Miranda said with a relieved expression. “Then I won’t be helping you. You’re the one who caused this mess, so you should fix it.”

She glanced at Josiah. “Let’s go.”

“Yes, Grandma.” Josiah nodded.

As they turned to leave, Josiah furrowed his brow and looked back at Sienna. He didn’t understand why she wasn’t asking Miranda for help when she clearly needed it. Cedric was the same way.

‘Could they really handle this on their own? If they wouldn’t speak up, I could only help so much, he wondered.

Chapter 131

After leaving the Flynn residence, they hurried back home. Cedric went straight upstairs and found Xenia. “Mom.”

Xenia glanced at him, immediately understanding. She furrowed her brow. “What’s with that look? Are you facing your mother like this? I assume you already know. Humph, Sienna really went and told on me.”

“Mom.” Cedric frowned and shook his head. “It’s not Sienna.”

“Who else could it be?” Xenia didn’t believe him, her anger rising. “I can see you’ve lost your mind. Is she so bad that you’ll defend her at every turn? What else did she say about me?”

“It was Josiah.” Cedric answered truthfully. “He’s the one who told me. Sienna never said anything bad about you.”

At the mention of Josiah, Xenia’s expression darkened further.

“Cedric,” she began, her voice sharp, “you really need to listen to yourself. Sienna and Josiah are divorced, and their relationship… Are you really going to choose a woman like that?”

“A woman like what?” Cedric was stunned, trying to explain. “Sienna is an adopted daughter of the Flynn family. She and Josiah aren’t a married couple. They’re more like siblings.*

“Hey!” Xenia’s blood pressure shot up, and she had to hold her forehead. “Don’t bother explaining. Nothing you say will change my mind. I’ll never agree to you being with someone who’s been married before.

“The Flynn family’s adopted daughter? Humph, even if she were the president’s adopted daughter, it wouldn’t matter.”

So there was no point in arguing anymore. Cedric paused, then nodded slowly. “Alright, I understand.”

Xenia felt a sense of foreboding at his sudden change. “What are you planning to do? Are you seriously thinking about cutting ties with the family for her?”

“No.” Cedric shook his head. “If I did that, it would only make you hate Sienna more. I’m not that foolish.”

“At least you’ve got some sense,” she rolled her eyes.

“But…” Cedric continued calmly, “Mom, I won’t give up on Sienna. I really like her. If you can’t accept her, I’m willing to be the one stuck in the middle, taking all the heat. You should rest. Good night.”

He turned and walked out, closing the door behind him.

“Cedric.” Xenia stood up suddenly, eyes wide in disbelief.

She hadn’t expected Cedric, who had always been obedient, to defy her like this.

“Who am I doing this for?” she cried out.

“No.” Xenia gritted her teeth. She had to find a way to separate them.

Cedric realized his mistake. He hadn’t anticipated his parents’strong opposition to his relationship with Sienna.

Back in his room, he picked up his phone to call Sienna, only to see a message from her.

Sienna: [Cedric, earlier at the Flynn family, it wasn’t a good time to talk. What Mrs. Brawne said is exactly what I’ve been thinking. We’re not right for each other. Please don’t keep pushing. Don’t do anything because of me.]

After reading the message, Cedric suddenly stood up, cold sweat breaking out on his skin. He immediately dialed Sienna’s number.

“Hello,” he began.

“Sienna.” Cedric gripped his phone, his heart in his throat. “Please don’t be mad. I’ve already talked to my mom. Let’s handle this ourselves, okay?” From his words, Sienna guessed that he had argued with his mother again.

Sienna began to second–guess herself. “I’m sorry, Cedric. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have used you to get away from Josiah.”

Even though it had been a twist of fate, she blamed herself for causing Cedric to have a falling–out with his family because of her. It was all wrong. “Please don’t fight with your family over me. Just listen to them. Let’s not stay in touch anymore.”

“Sienna…” Her words pierced Cedric’s heart like a thousand needles, causing a pain that didn’t bleed but felt just as sharp.
