Broken Mate by Norisha May Chapter 16 -Rain POV

Kayden looks at my clothes unapprovingly but there's nothing we can do. I don't have anything else to wear right now. I have jeans with holes on them and a sweater that is clean but it has some stains. "When we get back, throw your old clothes out." He says leaning on the door and I nod. He has a light blue dress shirt with the sleeves folded to his elbows, black pants, and black shoes. He always looks like a festival where he wore a black simple body-hugging shirt and jeans.

"Ready?" He asks. "Yea." I say.

He holds a hand towards me and I'm really not used to that but I take it and he leads me out the door. We go down the stairs and into the dining room. There are already some pack members there and they stare at us when we walk in. I let him lead me because I really don't know what to do here.

He takes me to the seat at the head of the table and I go to sit on the chair next to his but he pulls me with him and sits me on his lap. Saying that I am freaking out is an understatement. I am so shocked that I don't move a muscle. "K... Kayden? I can-"I start to say but he cuts me off.

"Sshh." He whispers in my ear making my body shiver and holding me tighter. "Once the food arrives, I'll let you sit on your chair but let me have this."

Itake a deep breath and calm myself. Then Grant walks out of the kitchen with Preston and they walk

over to us.

"Alpha, Luna." They both say bowing their heads.

"What the hell is wrong with you two?" Kayden says to them sounding confused and they both start laughing

"We thought we'd try the whole formal thing since it is the first day of you being Alpha." Preston says. "Yeah well don't." Kayden says looking irritated and they laugh again. While they talk, I'm still sitting on Kayden stiff as aboard. "So, the kitchen change has been done." Grant says sitting next to us. "Good." Kayden says. I look at them confused. "The howler monkey is out of the kitchen." Preston says giving me a smile.

Ilook back at Kayden surprised and he gives me a big smile. : "When I was working there, I saw that Levi knew everything there was to know about running the kitchen, so I decided to make him the head cook."

Igasp and turn my body to him. "Really?"

He nods still smiling. "Also, pack members will be rotating daily to help with the cooking. And I heard that Layla has not been going to school so she'll be doing that from now on."

"Also, Levi will be going to school online, that was his preference." Grant says. "And... Celeste?" I ask. (She must be angry.)

"We put her in laundry duty, where she won't have much interaction with other workers, you know, since she is not a people person." Preston says and then he smiles mischievously. "But I'm sure we'll hear the notorious howler monkey echo through the halls." He says dramatically,

(Wow, he really is changing everything.)

Chapter Sixteen

"Rain! Did you hear?" Layla says rushing to me looking super happy. "I'm going to start school tomorrow."

Levi takes the tray of food from her. "Layla seriously, you don't need to help, sit down and."

"Nope, I want to." She says.

"Levi, I want you to just place the food in the middle of the table and people can serve themselves." Kayden says.

Levi, Layla, and I look at him shocked. "We all have hands. I don't see why we have to be catered to." Kayden says.

Layla and Levi nod and put the food on the table. Everyone starts to get what they want. I get up and thankfully Kayden lets me, I sit next to him and we all start eating.

Heidi walks in and when she sees me, she rolls her eyes. She sits on the table away from us and looks at the food on the table with an irritated expression.

"So now I'm supposed to feed myself?" She says. "What? Are you a baby?" Preston asks. "Do you need someone to wipe your ass too?" She looks at him like she wants to kill him but everyone else at the table laugh. (I am starting to like these guys.) Once we finish eating, we head outside where we meet with Avery. "Grant, you stay here to overlook things." Kayden says.

"Yes... Alpha." Grant says smirking and Kayden gives him an annoyed look but Grant continues to smirk.

"Do we take the big car?" Preston asks. "No, you and Avery will go in your car and me and Rain in mine." Kayden says and Preston nods. Kayden leads me to the garage where I have only been two or three times before and we walk over to a very expensive-looking red car.

"What kind of car is this?" I ask him and I'm surprised at myself for starting a conversation with him like this.

"Acurrent year Chevrolet corvette. Do you like it?" He says opening the door for me and smiling.

Inod. "It's very nice."

He closes the door and goes around and sits on the driver's side. "You want one?" He asks and I look at him startled, shaking my head. "I don't know how to"

"Drive? I can teach you." He says starting the car.

"Maybe someday." I say softly and I am shocked that leven say that. He smiles. "Alright, whenever you're ready." We start driving and I can see Preston's car behind ours. "What kind of music do you like?" Kayden asks me.

"All kinds, I guess? I really don't listen to much music other than what I can hear when other people put it."

He sighs. "Then that's another thing we have to change." He says and turns on the radio. "This is pop, it's what most girls your age listen to but if you don't like it, then we can change it."

Inod and listen to the song which lam liking very much. While we drive, he asks me simple questions

We finally arrive at the same mall we came to last time. We head inside and start walking with Avery leading the way and kayden holding my hand close to him. "This store has almost everything that you need." She says going into a luxurious looking store. Kayden looks around and seems pleased.

(This all looks expensive.)

"Get whatever you want baby, don't hold back." He says.

I stand there not knowing what to do, I don't even know where to start. I feel an arm intertwine with mine and pull me away from Kayden. "Come on, let's have fun." Avery says and pulls me away.

Afew minutes in and Avery has her hands full. She just asks me if I like something, I nod and she just takes it. The problem is that I like everything since everything here is nicer than what I have. At this rate, we'll be buying the whole store. "Ohl Dresses, you need fancy dresses since you are Luna. Imagine all those luxurious dinners and parties you'll be going to." She says looking more excited than I do.

The whole timelcan't help look around for Kayden. We've been together since yesterday and I feel like i miss him being near me.

(It's weird how this whole mate thing works.) I spot him sitting on a fancy sofa talking with Preston. "Your man is fine, don't worry." Avery says. I go a few shades red and she laughs at me.

("My man...I want to say 'never' but it.... sounds nice.)

"Ok, shoes next," She says excitedly again.

After an hour and a half, we are finally done. I can really say, that was the most exhausting thing! have willingly ever done.

"See, that was fun, right?" Avery asks. "No, that was not fun... ok maybe a little." I say looking away. (It was pretty fun being able to choose.) "Isn't this a little too much?" I ask as I see Preston and Kayden holding countless bags, "Nope, you'll need clothing for every occasion." Kayden says as we start walking. (This is really happening. I am mated to Kayden Byron. It feels so surreal.)

"Where to now?" Kayden asks, "Victoria's secret." Avery says smiling at him and he lifts an eyebrow up looking at her. (What is that?)

"We got everything except the most important things... and this is for you too." She says wiggling her eyebrows at him and he gives her a mischievous smile but seems pleased.

Ilook at both of them confused. (What is the most important thing? I thought we got everything.)

We keep walking until Avery pulls me to a store with posters of women in underwear and see-through things that I have never seen before. There are even some that only have a few strings on them andlam shocked at what I see. I look back and thank the goddess the guys are waiting outside because my face is lit up.

"Oh come on, let me teach you the ways." She says grabbing my hand and leading me around.

"You see this one?" She says pointing to a red lace see-through set. "Something like this can really drive a man crazy. You'll have him eating out of the palm of your hand," She takes it and cringe and groan

Chapter Sixteen

feeling embarrassed.

She leads me around the store giving me tips on things that I really wish she didn't. When we finish, am left with thoughts of things that I have never imagined before. We got two big bags full of lingerie which apparently, it's what is called. We walk over to the guys and I can't even look at them.

"Well, I'm getting hungry, let's go eat." Preston says. We walk back to the cars and the guys put the bags in the trunk.

"Meet us there." Kayden says as Preston and Avery walk away to their car.

Kayden opens the car door for me but before I can get in, he pulls me towards him trying to hug me but I pull away. He closes his eyes biting his lips in frustration.

"Rain, I am trying but... you have to understand how hard it is for me too. You are my mate and all want to do is have you in my arms."

"I'm... sorry." I say looking down. (I know that it's in our kinds nature to need the contact of our mates but, I can't help it.) "I'm not doing it on purpose, it's a reaction." I say. He sighs. "Don't be sorry, what if I asked you first? Do you think it would be easier?" He asks. "Maybe? ... don't know." He smiles. "Can I hug you?" He asks.

I stare at him for a few seconds and nod. He walks to me and slowly puts his arms around me. I feel a little anxious but it really feels nice. He feels warm. My head is on his chest and I can't help but take a deep breath, his scent wraps around me and I like it. I feel his chest as he breathes and it feels soothing. I don't want him to part from me.

I feel him kissing my head and this is the first time I have felt so safe after my parents died. I look up at him and he looks at me then, for the first time in a long time, I smile. He stares at me for a few seconds and then suddenly lowers his lips to mine.
