Chapter 104 A Farewell of Love
The deep winter in Las Vegas was particularly harsh, with temperatures below freezing cutting through. the air like invisible knives.
Yvonne had just returned from the warm climate of the South and hadn’t yet adjusted to the cold, which now thoroughly overwhelmed her.
Her simple black coat seemed so thin against the northern wind and snow.
As she hurried along, her figure flickered under the dim streetlights, like a lonely shadow.
The cold wind cut like a knife, and her hands, clenched tightly, were tinged with a purplish red from the cold. Her breath formed small clouds in the air, which were quickly shredded and dispersed by the wind.
Just as Yvonne felt utterly defeated by the cold and began to despair, the gates of Marcus’s home appeared before her.
She practically dashed inside, where the warmth inside contrasted sharply with the cold outside.
Marcus immediately jumped up from the comfortable sofa when he saw her frostbitten hands and said with concern, “Come in first; we can talk later.” Those words seemed to carry all the compassion and care in the world.
Under the warm light of the room, Marcus guided her to sit down while his housekeeper busied herself in the kitchen. Soon, the aroma of hot tea wafted through the air.
Marcus sat opposite her, concerned, and asked, “Have you eaten?”
Yvonne replied softly, her gaze somewhat distant, “A little.” Her voice was weak, like a traveler exhausted by a long journey.
Seeing her haggard face and trembling shoulders, Marcus felt a pang of worry.
A surge of desire to take care of her rose in his heart, and he said gently, “You’ve never tried my cooking. have you? I just learned how to make noodles. How about I cook some for you?” He tried to bring a light- hearted atmosphere with his words.
Seeing Marcus’s warm smile, Yvonne forced a faint smile, “Okay.”
Soon, a bowl of steaming tomato and egg noodles was served. Marcus had specially prepared it according to her past preferences, ensuring the eggs were well–cooked before adding them to the noodles, as Yvonne once mentioned she didn’t like the taste of egg soup.
The aroma slowly filled the air, seemingly taking away some of the cold.
“Thank
you.” Yvonne took the bowl, her hands wrapping around its warmth, feeling a long–lost comfort. She slowly savored each bite, feeling Marcus’s care and affection with every mouthful.
On this cold night, the warmth in Marcus’s home finally gave Yvonne a reason to relax and even smile. She knew Marcus’s care was meticulous and sincere.
In this moment of warmth, the wind and snow outside seemed irrelevant to her.
After finishing the noodles, Yvonne felt warm and looked up at Marcus, smiling, “It’s a bit salty… maybe a Tittle less salt next time.”
Marcus froze for a moment–next time? His heart trembled slightly but he quickly masked his emotions, smiling faintly, “Alright, I owe you one.”

“Have you decided? Yvonne put down her chopsticks, her gaze fixed on him, a mix of unease and expectation in her tone. “Marcus, I hope every decision you make is true to your heart, not for anyone else, including me.”
Marcus was silent for a moment before speaking softly. “This decision is mainly for myself. I don’t want to be a useless person by your side, Yvonne… One day, I want to stand beside you as an equal, not just because you feel touched by my kindness, but because you’re proud of me.”
Yvonne’s heart tightened, her eyes slightly red. She took a deep breath, “Marcus, even if I don’t want to admit it, I have to. The gap between us is too big. I can’t help you or find a solution. The best I can do is not to cause you more trouble.”
Marcus lowered his head, his voice choking. “Yvonne, I’m so sorry for making you uncomfortable.”
“No, I don’t think that way.” Marcus shook his head, his gaze firm. “A person can live well and have a wonderful life on their own. You are that kind of person Just meeting you is enough for me; I feel so happy and even lucky.”
Because of her, he wanted to live differently.
In the vast sea of people, some individuals appear like stars, brightening others‘ lives in an instant.
Yvonne was that star for Marcus.
Yvonne didn’t expect such praise from him. “Marcus, I suddenly remembered something.”
“What?” Marcus frowned slightly, his eyes full of concern.
“At that time, Benson said he wanted to be responsible for the person in his heart and marry her. I was envious of that person and made a wish that one day I would also have someone who treats me like a treasure.”
As she spoke, tears inexplicably fell from her eyes.
The cold wind was fierce, but he seemed not to feel it at all, immersed in endless emptiness and loneliness.
His heart felt like it was abandoned in a snow–covered wilderness, devoid of

Recalling their embrace, Marcus affection and reluctance for Yvonne at that moment.
But as he tried to smile, his lips trembled uncontrollably. Finally, his eyes reddened, and tears welled up. He liked her so much, and he couldn’t bear to part with her, but he had to endure this pain silently.
Yvonne turned and extended her arms to him, walking toward him with firm yet gentle steps. Her eyes were filled with reluctance and resolve. “Marcus, take care in the days ahead. Her words were simple, yet they weighed heavily on his heart.
He held Yvonne tightly, as if trying to stop time.
“Yvonne… Marcus’s voice was hoarse, tinged with despair and reluctance, as if the world had lost all its color at that moment.
Yvonne buried her face in his chest, her hair lightly brushing his cheek, giving him the last bit of warmth and comfort. But eventually, she took that step and left his world.
Marcus stood alone at the door, the cold wind cutting through his skin like knives, chilling him to the bone. But the pain and loneliness in his heart far exceeded the physical cold.
He whispered softly, “Yvonne, my princess of rouge.” He hoped she would achieve her dreams, be happy

and joyful, even if he wasn’t by her side.
At thatent, he heard footsteps upstairs, followed by his father Henry’s voice beside him. Henry’s
tone was calm yet carried a hint of concern, “Heartbreak is the least painful and fastest way to grow.”
Marcus turned to see his father standing on the stairs, his face tough yet hiding complex emotions. A surge of unspeakable emotions welled up in his heart.

With a mix of grievance and anger, he said, “I’m already like this, can’t you comfort me?” His voice was choked with sobs, making him sound incredibly fragile.
Henry descended the stairs, approaching Marcus step by step, finally placing a broad hand on his shoulder, giving him a firm pat. “Son, I believe in you. You’re no worse than the Taylor boy… If she isn’t doing well, take her back from him. Don’t just stand by while she struggles and you can’t help her!”
