Chapter 103 Waiting Outside the Door

Yvonne didn’t expect that Marcus, who hadn’t contacted her for a few days, would make such a decision, A wave of inexplicable anxiety and unease surged within her, as if something important was slipping through her fingers. She didn’t hesitate to return, but Megan stopped her.

“Miss Yvonne, we’ve finally made progress with our work. If we can secure BR, we’ll have a competitive edge… If you leave now, by myself, I’m afraid…” Megan’s voice choked with emotion and unease. She clasped her hands tightly, eyes filled with worry. Her body trembled slightly, clearly overwhelmed by the impending pressure and uncertainty.

Yvonne’s heart trembled slightly. She knew Megan’s concerns were not unfounded. But she also understood what Marcus meant to her. She gently said, “No amount of BR is worth more than Marcus.” Her gaze was firm, yet carried a hint of hidden pain. Her voice was calm, but her eyes shone with undeniable determination,

She had loved Benson. That love was restrained, like a delicate butterfly, careful not to disturb the other, just hoping to bring a bit of happiness to the other was enough. Marcus treated her the way she once treated Benson. She understood him, comprehending all his contradictions and struggles.

So, when Benson said, “Yvonne, I like you,” she didn’t feel joy but rather a calm detachment. She knew that words spoken by a man in bed couldn’t be taken seriously. Even if he truly liked her… so what? It was just sweet words to win her affection. Whether she was willing or not, Benson hadn’t considered; as long as he liked it, that was enough.

Yvonne left Megan in Beishan and immediately returned to Las Vegas. Her heart was filled with complex emotions, worrying about Marcus and feeling helpless about Benson, Her steps were firm and hurried, as if racing against time.

Benson was in a bad mood. Yvonne was smart, she knew how important BR was, yet she chose to return. Her decision displeased Benson and left him feeling uneasy. Knowing there was nothing inappropriate between her and Marcus didn’t make him feel better. He thought there must be karma in this world; perhaps this was his retribution for the scandal with Mary.

Back then, his heart wasn’t in the marriage. Now, her heart was far away, even though they had been intimately close the previous day. Benson lit a cigarette, silent for a long time. His eyes were unfocused, his thoughts drifting far away amidst the smoke.

George stood in front of the desk, contemplating for a while before asking, “Shall we go back?” His voice carried hesitation and unease, clearly worried that Benson’s decision might affect their plans.

Benson stared at the smoldering cigarette, eyes hazy, “Forget it, what’s the point of going back?” His voice was low and powerless, as if he were talking to himself, explaining to himself. He had urgent matters to attend to.

George hesitated for a moment, then said softly. “There’s something else…” His voice was tense and uneasy, clearly worried that this news would touch a sensitive nerve.

Benson raised his head, face darkening, “Can’t you even report properly now?” He seized the chance to vent his anger, “If you can’t do it, find someone who can.” His voice was filled with anger and impatience, trying to mask his own unease and anxiety.

George gritted his teeth and continued, “Seven years ago, during that time, Yvonne attended school without fall, verified by her mentor.” His voice was firm and resolute, trying to use this information to sway Benson.

This news didn’t surprise Benson, but it left him feeling a bit of loss and facing the past awkwardly.

Ultimately, he had broken his promises to her. He rarely thought of her in recent times. A week after they registered their marriage three years ago, he went abroad. Was this the best decision he had ever made? His heart was filled with questions and confusion, searching for an answer yet fearing it would bring more pain.

Yvonne arrived at the Las Vegas airport at 10 PM. The night was dark, cold wind mixed with fine rain, casting her lonely shadow under the streetlights. She stood outside Marcus’s villa, looking around; the familiar lights now seemed especially cold. Her nose tingled, eyes slightly red, filled with unease and anticipation.

The wind, mingled with fine rain, brushed lightly against her face, like invisible fingers gently sweeping through her hair.

She tightened her coat, trying to use its limited warmth to fend off the cold. The villa’s doors were tightly shut, faint light visible through the heavy curtains. This once familiar home now felt so alien.

Marcus, hearing from a servant that she had arrived, felt a pang in his heart, sighing deeply with helplessness and reluctance, “Arrange a car, take her home first.” His voice was low, each word weighing heavily. He knew that facing Yvonne, he might not be able to leave her. He would regret it but didn’t dare to stay.

As the servant left, Marcus’s gaze followed her back, his inner struggle intensifying. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to suppress his emotions with reason.

He walked to the window, peering through the curtains, seeing Yvonne standing outside. Her figure appeared so lonely and fragile under the streetlights, his heart felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand.

Christmas was a month away, and the nights in Las Vegas were chilly. Yvonne stood outside Marcus’s door, the surrounding lights flickering in the darkness, the cold wind making her hug herself tighter.

Her heart raced, each breath carrying the chill, but her gaze was firm, ready to face anything.

“Yvonne,” she whispered to herself, as if encouraging herself, “You can do this, no matter what happens, face it bravely.” She took a deep breath, taking a resolute step towards the door.

Her fingers trembled as she pressed the doorbell, its ring clear and abrupt in the quiet night.

The door suddenly opened, and Marcus stepped out, not wearing a coat, his thin shirt looking particularly fragile in the cold wind. His face was pale, eyes showing a mix of fatigue and helplessness.

He looked at Yvonne standing outside, his heart filled with complex emotions, as if all his feelings surged at that moment.

Marcus’s gaze locked onto her eyes, as if seeking some form of release from them. However, Yvonne’s eyes were resolute and passionate, filled with undeniable emotion.

Seeing him, Yvonne’s eyes filled with more remorse. She stepped forward, her voice soft but trembling slightly, “Why… suddenly going abroad?

Her voice was filled with confusion and worry, each word striking Marcus’s heart heavily.
