I sighed as I made, I got close to the school, the sound of classmates chatting was slowly getting louder as I got closer.

Kids were still coming with their friends as they moved to picnic tables crowding around as they gossiped about their secrets.

“Zaphira!”

Elizia said statically as she hopped from her car.

Thank God, I made it.

Elizia moved towards me, wrapping her arms around me.

“I was so worried where have you been? When I saw Blaine show up without you, I was really worried.” She said as she pulled away.

R- Really? I didn’t think she paid attention when I wasn’t around.

“Elizia! I- I’m sorry.” I said finally as I readjusted my shirt and bag.

“Zaphira! You made it.” Blaine said coming up from behind me.

“Yeah, you are right,” Elizia said admittedly as she looked apologetic at me for some reason.

I looked at them confused, what did I miss? Why was Blaine right?

“Well, yeah why would I lie about that?” Blaine said as he hopped on Elizia’s car opening a can of soda.

“Are you really going to drink that?” Elizia asked as she glared at Blaine disapprovingly.

“… Yeah, I was kind of hoping to get rid of this thirst I developed 20 minutes ago.” Blaine said as he took a sip of his soda and stared directly at Elizia as if testing her.

“Fine don’t Blame me when you get gas during soccer practice,” Elizia said folding her arms.

I stared blankly at them the sound of people chatting and whispering all around me.

“Wait what exactly did I miss? Since when were you not allowed to drink soda?” I asked as I looked at Blaine.

Blaine looked at me for a moment his eyes studying me before saying anything.

“Never… Elizia made this up the day after you stopped coming to school.” Blaine said glaring at her.

I looked at Blane puzzled then at Elizia who looked at her phone focused on something.

“And it is true if drinking sugar or caffeinated beverages before soccer match or practices it can cause irritated bowels and a stomach ache.” Elizia said defensively.

Wait what? That can’t be right?

“Is it true?” I asked curiously as I looked at Blaine.

“How the heck am I supposed to know? It sounds stupid I’ve never had anything happen before practice or a match and I can knock back at least two sodas beforehand.” He said as he continued to drink his soda vengefully.

“Hey, Zaphira….” Elizia began as she hopped off her car again and move to me, Blane’s gaze following her, still drinking the soda. “Can I ask you a strange question?” Elizia said sounding nervous.

I looked at her confused, she fidgeted with her fingernail as she looked down at the cement. It was strange to see her act so weird, she’s not the type to be nervous or uncomfortable about speaking about anything.

I looked at Blaine hoping he would know something about her questions, Blane looked at me and shrugged shaking his head. Elizia turned to Blaine for a split second then pulled my arm to give us more distance.

“It’s… Private,” she said lowering her voice. I looked at her hesitantly then shrugged. “I wanted to talk to you about…” She struggled as she shifted nervously in her spot.

“Elizia? What’s going on? Did you get yourself into detention or something?” I asked then instantly wanted to smack myself for asking such a dumb question. Even if Elizia did get into detention she wouldn’t be struggling this hard to tell me about it.

“It’s about Blaine…” Elizia said quickly before turning her head towards Blaine to see if he was paying attention or listening.

Uh-Oh! Did she and Blane Fight to much? Oh no did she really physically hurt him?

“Blaine? Did you guys get into an argument or something?” I asked confused. I glanced at Blaine who was distracted looking on his phone and drinking the last of his soda.

“No, we’re fine it’s just…” Elizia looked hesitant. “Ugh……” She roared annoyed as she scratched her hair in frustration.

“Zaphira what is your relationship with Blaine?” She finally asked abruptly as she looked at me intensely as if she was hoping for something.

Relationship? What does she mean? I mean we’re friends, I know that we talk to each other and were family practically. I thought confused but I thought she knew that.

“What do you mean relationship?” I finally asked puzzled.

Elizia looked at me hesitantly as she studied my expression. “You know….” She tried to say nervously in a slow whisper.

“I don’t know,” I explained what does she mean? What more does she want to know? Blaine is my friend he is like family and that’s about it, oh and he can be very annoying sometimes. “What do you mean relationship? I mean Blaine and I are friends and he’s very… How should I put it concerned for me like an older brother?” I said looking at her.

“So, there is nothing between you and Blaine?” Elizia asked. I looked at her then to Blane who looked intently at his phone.

“Why would there be anything between us? Blaine is Blaine, I mean he is a little protective but that’s nothing new he’s always been that way.” I said still confused.

“So, would you be okay with me asking Blaine out?” Elizia asked practically blushing at the thought.

“Wait! Do you like Blaine? I blurted out unintentionally I had to cover my mouth and glance at Blaine who sat still distracted. Elizia and I both sighed in relief as I looked at her.

“Well yeah, he’s… Cute I’ve always liked him but I thought you guys were a thing so I never said anything.” Elizia said shyly.

“Wait is that why you are asking me such weird questions?” I asked feeling stupid as I thought of my dumb answers and replies. How could I not have thought Elizia would like Blaine?

“…. Umm… yeah, it’s not exactly easy to tell someone you think might have a relationship with someone that they like the person that persons with,” Elizia said sighing. I looked at her and smiled.

“Okay, if you like Blaine go for it, I’m rooting for you, there is nothing between me and Blaine especially that way with him, we just known each other for a really long time he’s like a brother to me,” I began as I looked at her trying to reassure her that it was okay. “Though you may have to always deal with him coming off overbearing I’ve tried to tell them to calm down with that but if you tell him, it hurts his feelings,” I said sounding sad.

Elizia nodded a huge grin forming across her face as her cheeks warmed, I could tell she was excited to talk to Blaine.

“I wonder if he’s going to be that protective with me?” She asked curiously she glanced at him.

“Take it from me it’s not that great, it can get very annoying,” I said as I thought about last night. I still can’t believe he went all the way to my house because of a potential flood what a dummy. I thought as I shook my head.

“But Zaphira you are okay with this right? If you like Blaine I will not stand in your way I know you guys have something that I could never understand but I would feel really bad if I stood in the way of something.” Elizia asked worriedly.

“Elizia really it’s okay the most you have to be concerned about is how protective he is, there is nothing between me and Blaine,” I said trying to reassure her.

Elizia smiled brightly as she tried to retain her excitement.

“Thank you Zaphira I appreciate it.” She said before turning back to her car.

Elizia and Blaine… What an interesting combination Elizia is not what I would expect Blaine would end up with but if they end up together then that would be amazing and surprising.

Especially since Elizia is more into bikers and gangsters, Blaine is sportier and usually the cheerleader’s type. I thought to myself as I moved towards them.

“Are you girls done?” Blaine asked as he put his phone down.

“Yeah, Elizia was just asking me about boys,” I said as I stood by Elizia who didn’t look at either of us, her right hand rubbing against something on the hood of her car as if she was trying to get a scratch a stain out.

“Wait Elizia liking boys! I thought you said you were too good to have a boyfriend that attended the school?” Blaine asks shocked as he grinned at her mischievously.

“No, I said there weren’t any boys at the school currently who are not worth looking at,” Elizia said defensively.

“No, no I remember specifically hearing you say last year say that the boys at the school were disgusting and didn’t know a lick of knowledge even if it smacked them in the face and how only the plastic wannabes would dare look at them since they shared the same level of intelligence.”

I looked at Elizia who said nothing she just kept her attention focused on the imaginary stain on her car.

“Look I can change my mind all I want It's free country, except for the Barbies they are still Barbies I’ve never seen a girl in the school other than Zaphira who could solve a god damn math equation or know something other than what pursed her going to bring to school the next day.”

“Okay so then who’s the guy?” Blaine asked as he readjusted himself and looked at her curiously, the same mischievous grin on his face.

“Blane!” I said as I looked at him frowning. Blane looked at me and frowned before opening up his bag.

“Alright, alright I’m sorry Elizia.” Blane Apologised as he looked at her briefly. Elizia looked at him a moment then smiled before nodding.

How long has Elizia liked Blane? I thought as Blane hopped off her car.

“Zaphira, I have practice and it’s going to take longer than normal today will you be okay with heading home on your own today?” Blaine asked as he handed me a small plastic bag.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine besides I have to go to the grocery store after school There is a dish I wanna make,” I said as I opened the bag.

Aww, dam I can’t believe I missed getting a chance to eat this. I love her Food, sweet sushi.

“Oh yeah, is that the dish that your mother made? The one that I couldn’t resist whenever she made it?” Blaine asked eagerly.

I looked at him and smiled. “Maybe, maybe it is maybe it’s not,” I said teasing him as I close the plastic bag. Blaine smiled excitedly as if I was already making the dish.

“Oh, I can’t wait! It’s going to be delicious.” Blaine said practically drooling.

“What dish?” Elizia finally asked breaking the moment’s silence.

“It’s a type of pasta my mother used to make all the time, Blaine loves it and used to ask my mom all the time to make it,” I said smiling to myself at the thought of the pasta. Elizia looked at me funny for a moment then smiled.

“Sounds delicious I wish I was able to have tried it.” She said sounding left out.

“You should have known her mother she was an amazing woman and could make some really good pasta,” Blaine said.

Elizia said nothing for a moment she just looked at me intently her eyes studying my face as if she was trying to say something.

“How come you never introduced me to your mother? It’s almost been four years and I still never been to your house.” Elizia said.

“Well to be honest I didn’t think you wanted to,” I said truthfully as I fidgeted with my shirt. “Plus, you wouldn’t be able to meet my mother now anyway,” I said sadly.

Just before I could say any more the bell rang and all the kids started scattering from the parking lot towards the school. “I’ll see you later than Blaine,” I said before quickly moving towards the doors not letting Elizia say anything else.

“Did I say something wrong?” I heard her ask Blaine from behind me.
