Why My Mate Cries -
Chapter 45
ALIYAH’S POV
When I woke up the next morning, I spent an hour crouching over the toilet bowl and throwing up the food I had eaten the night before. I washed my face and brushed my teeth afterward, which made me feel a little better, although I could still feel that my tummy was being twisted for some unknown reason.
As soon as I got out of the bathroom, my eyes landed on the bed, realizing that Reid wasn’t here when I blinked awake. He might have needed to attend to some meeting or deal with his pack mates as the Alpha, and so I understood he may have had to leave early in the morning.
After changing clothes, I finally went down to the main kitchen as I wanted to cook a hot soup to ease the discomfort in my stomach and for our pack mates, but as soon as I stepped into that, my gaze went to Reid, who was wearing an apron and totally topless underneath.
My lips curled into a smile. I leaned on the doorframe and gawked at him in awe. He looked completely stunning, even in an apron, and I couldn’t help but enjoy the all too familiar desire going through my groin area.
When he turned around, our gaze locked, and he flashed a boyish smile at me. My wolf was feeling giddy at the sight of him, and so I walked towards him and gave him a k**s on the lips.
“I thought you left to do some work,” I said, wrapping my arms around his waist as I looked up at him.
He caressed my back, still smiling, and replied, “Preparing breakfast for my mate is also one of my duties as an Alpha.”
His words made me giggle. I pulled away and checked what he was cooking, and I became excited upon seeing that he was making a mushroom soup; very timely for my stomach that was acting up.
“It’s almost done. Just sit right there and I will serve you,” he said softly.
I pouted my lips and looked at him intently. He was so sweet and thoughtful that it made my heart so full and warm. I couldn’t ask for more, realizing he was more than enough to be my everything.
I went to the table and settled in there, feeling excited to have some soup. When Reid finally served it with roasted meat and sweet potatoes, my mouth started to water and my stomach started to grumble.
He sat right next to me, and as we ate, I couldn’t help but praise him for the delicious food. The soup in my stomach felt so good that the nausea I had just vanished right away.
“I love the soup…” I said, and leaned my head on his shoulder. “Thank you.”
“Anything for my queen,” he said, smiling, and then wrapped his left arm around my waist and sipped on his coffee.
It was the kind of morning I hoped to have every single day. We were having a great time and were only interrupted by loud noises from upstairs. It was followed by the familiar growl of Klaus that made me and Reid glance at each other.
“What’s happening?”
“F**k. Here they are again,” Reid said as he stood up. “I need to go upstairs to check on Klaus and the twins.”
I frowned at what he said. Knowing the behaviour of the twins, I knew Reid would become irritated once again. Afraid that he might be unable to control himself and scare the twins away, I also stood up and held him in the arm.
“Let me go with you,” I said.
Worry filled his eyes as he shook his head. “No. Stay here, Aliyah. I don’t want you to feel any stress.”
“I’ll be fine, Reid.” I squeezed his arm tight and looked at him pleading. “Please?”
He breathed heavily and then let out a sigh afterward.
“Fine, but don’t intervene…”
I nodded in response. We heard another loud thud upstairs, and so we hurried up and checked what was going on between Klaus, Ellie, and Dustin.
However, when we got there, I was taken aback when I saw the twins in their wolf form, cornering Klaus as they snarled at them. I was frankly surprised by the fact that Klaus did not shift to let the twins see that he was more powerful than they were, but I guess he couldn’t scare them that way.
“Damn it!” Reid growled. “Step back, Aliyah.”
“O—Okay…”
I took a couple of steps backward, while Reid walked towards them. I was even more shocked when he partly shifted and roared out loud, which weakened the twins. All of a sudden, the twins knelt on the floor, shaking so badly after what Reid had done.
“Didn’t I tell the both of you that you were banned from shifting?” Reid growled at them angrily. “You had the audacity to defy my command?”
Nobody dared speak from the twins. Klaus tried to calm Reid down by patting him on his shoulder, but it was evident that the Alpha was on the edge all over again.
“Prepare to throw these kids outside the borders, Klaus!”
I felt a pang of fear at what he declared. Even Ellie and Dustin went into an instant panic and begged for his forgiveness right away. However, Reid was so furious that he couldn’t force himself to be merciful to them.
That’s when I decided to step in and stand in between Reid and the twins. I knew Reid didn’t want me to intervene, but I could never let him decide something out of his high emotions.
“Aliyah…” he made a low growl. His teeth gritted as he watched me shield the twins from him.
I shook my head and bravely stared at him. “You have to calm down, Reid. Your anger will never resolve this matter.”
“She’s right,” Klaus added as he nodded.
Reid still looked so mad, not even moving for a bit while he gave the twins a deadly glare as if they were some kind of his enemies.
I stood still, nervous, and then cleared my throat to get his attention.
“Let me speak with them,” I said.
The corner of his mouth twitched up. “And then what? They are only going to disrespect you, Aliyah.”
I bit my l*p, feeling a bit of pressure inside my chest. He was so mad that even I, was afraid of him… but I couldn’t let him just decide to throw these kids away because he was freaking mad.
“Trust me on this, Reid. I will just talk to them,” I said carefully.
We maintained eye contact for a few seconds, and when he felt I would not back down, that’s when he gave in and nodded.
“But I’m not going to let you talk to them alone,” he growled.
I nodded. My eyes looked at the bed in the left corner of the room and I motioned for him to stay there while I talked to the twins on the other bed. He continued to watch them with his eyes smoldering. Klaus dragged him to the other side of the room, and I was left to face Ellie and Dustin, who were seemingly terrified.
“Let’s talk.”
