Why deceive me?? -
49. Who Did You Just Call A Slum?
He pointed at the double doors leading out of the office when Jia failed to move immediately.
"Do I need to repeat myself?" he asked, his voice growing more arctic with each syllable until Jia thought her ears were contracting a viral strain of frostbite. doorknob
"No, sir,” she answered, and she what disappointed because she was sure that the secretary wasn't at work anymore. But proud that somehow, she didn't stammer as 'Lydia' had. God knew she wanted to.
He had nothing else to say, evidently, and moved her resume and application away to
the side of his expansive desk. By the time he drew a stack of papers and folders from
one of his dan unconcerned eyes ready halfway out the door. He watched with an unconcerned eye as she held the handle and controlled the door's swing; it closed quietly behind her with a near-imperceptible click as the latch slid gently into place.
Damon decided he had had enough of all this drama for one day. He decided to call Ronni hasn't had time to stay with her.
Flashback.
"Do you have to go this early and come back late?" Ronnie whined careful not to upset him.
"I have a matter to solve at the office. But don't worry, they won't disturb you if you instill room," He assured her.
"How sure are,e you? You know I'll still have to go down for breakfast, lunch, and dinner" She said.
"I have everything figured out," He said again
"What do you mean?" She asked, looking at him suspiciously.
"Quit looking at me like that," He said and she dropped her head.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine," She assured him.
Present.
He felt like he needed to talk to her so he called her number.
She picked up on the first ring.
"Hey," He said.
"Hey," She replied
"What are you doing?" He asked, unsure if she was fine
"I'm good," She replied, faking a cheered voice.
Damon figured she wasn't alright and frowned.
"I'll have Alan pick you up." He said.
"Pick me up? Where is he taking, ing me to?" She asked
"Ahhh...why are you so full of questions," he asked.
Ronnie felt like slapping her mouth. She just kept mute.
"He'll pick you up in 20 minutes. Be sure to get ready and y by then," He said and hung up.
Ronnie started freshening up and wore a white tank top and jean trousers. She applied her makeup. She was still looking at the mirror, admiring her figure when a call came in. She picked up and it was Alan. "Hello, Miss Katie," Alan said, cheerfully.
Ronnie rolled her eyes at his unusual cheerfulness. She had tried being rude to him many times but he seemed to be oblivious to anything.
"Why are you sounding like President Biden has given you something worth more than money?" She teased.
"You're worth more than money," He said.
"I think I should call Damon and tell him someone is trying to flirt with me," Ronnie said and smiled within herself.
Alan gasped. Then he laughed nervously. "Oh come on, I was just teasing you. Nothing more," He said.
"Quit the long talk, I'll be down in a jiffy," Ronnie said and hung up before Alan could get the chance to say anything else.
She was walking down the stairs when she bumped into Sara, all dolled up and ready to go out.
"And where is the drama queen going to?" Sara asked, looking at her with disdain.
Ronnie ignores her and continued going her way. Sara held her by the hand to stop her from going any further.
"You don't seem deaf the last time I checked," Sara said.
"What do you want this time?" Ronnie who just untangled her hand from Sara replied.
"I asked you a question. Where are you going to? To cheat on your fiancee, I guess?" Sara said and laughed.
"I believe I have spent too much time with you," Ronnie replied and walked off. Then she paused and turned. "By the way, I must commend you for that outfit. You're one hell of a stripper and I'm not judging you," Ronnie walked out towards the car park and saw Alan waving at her. She rolled her eyes and smirked.
"What's so funny?" Alan asked and frowned
"Nolan's. You're just a bit foolish today," She remarked
Alan's jaw dropped as if he couldn't believe what she was saying.
"What?" She asked and entered the car without waiting for his reply
"Why does she always do that?" Alan asked rhetorically before entering the car to drive.
They arrived at the prestigious skyscraper in no time and Ronnie's jaw dropped. She'd only seen this on TV and never dreamt there coming here because people in her class couldn't be seen there. Here she was, and she was sure she was gonna enter here.
It had been her dream company to get employed since she graduated college and all that. But all her dreams were to reach down when even the smallest company didn't agree to hire her, not to talk of a big company.
As she and Alan walked into the prestigious building, she couldn't help but marvel at the sight. She walked with her mouth agape till Alan tugged her.
"Stop doing that. This is not the first time you are at the Cistern company. Don't ruin Damon's reputation here," Alan whispered, scolding her.
"Oh, right," Ronnie said and regained her composure.
Alan stopped in front of the elefifty-firstestured for Ronrecognize in.
"His office is on the fifty-first floor. You'll recognize it once you arrive," Alan said and turned his back.
"Where are you going?" Ronnie asked
"Somewhere interesting," He said and smirked.
Ronnie shook her head and pinched the keypad on the elevator once it closed.
She arrived at the floor in no time and followed Alan's directions. She couldn't quite place her fingers on where the office is so she decided to go to the receptionist.
The receptionist was a young passionate lady in her late twenties. She was pretty and could easily pass out for a model. The woman looked at Ronnie with contempt. "Hi," Ronnie said, smiling at the receptionist.
"Yes. Who are you and what are you looking for around here?" she asked
"I'm just wondering if you could point the way to Mr. Damon's office for me," she asked politely.
The lady looked at her sternly.
"Do you have an appointment?" She asked
"Not exactly," Ronnie replied and laughed nervously
"Then I'm afraid you can't see him, let alone seduce him," She said plainly.
"Seduce him?" Ronnie asked
"I believe you don't want me to repeat myself," She replied harshly. "Please leave or I'll be forced to call the securities on you,"
Ronnie was taken aback. She watched the receptionist in silence as she thought of calling Damon.
"You're still here. We don't hire prostitutes here," She said again when she saw that Ronnie was making no effort to leave the premises. Ronnie's mouth dropped wide open.
"Did you just refer to me as a prostitute?" Ronnie asked
"And what will you do?" She asked sarcastically. "Fire me? Ooh, I'm scared,"
Ronnie ignored her and walk off to an amorous glass of doorknob she guessed was Damon's office.
Once she held the doorknob the receptionist ran over and held her hand.
"What do you think you're doing?" She asked, hoarsely.
"Let go of me," Ronnie said and pushed her aside. She entered the office and saw Damon sitting on his office swivel chair.
Once she was inside, the receptionist ran to her and held her by the hair
"You gold-digger. I asked you not to enter the boss's office," She yelled at Ronnie
"Damon, she's hurtin' me," Ronnie whined.
Damon turned his face to look at her. He had a disapproving gaze.
"What is happening?" He asked.
"I told this slum here not to come into the office and she didn't comply," The receptionist said, confidently.
Damon's face got twisted in anger.
"Who did you just call a slum?" He asked, angrily.
