Burning electric shocks rippled through his body. Was this the magic overflow? Was Kailee in pain? He needed to get to her and find her. He never would have allowed Jane to k**s him. Jane. She managed to escape from him. But he found out some very disturbing news. During his few moments undercover, he eased dropped on Jane talking to a stranger. Jane was assisting the Order. And what was devastating was that there was someone part of the Order back at his kingdom. He was going to have to go back and find the traitor. He was livid that he was being betrayed by his own kind. But that was all on the backburner right now. He had to find Kailee. He hoped she understood what happened was beyond his control. It was an ancient magic that was all but extinct. The bombus candle was thought to no longer exist. Of course, the order would still have access to them. He would never be affected by the candle again… not ever.

His beast now recognized the effects of the candle. One of his skills was to adapt to magic. That candle would never work against him again. It was such a vulnerable feeling not being able to move. He had to watch in horror as Kailee was held by another man. And then watch as she was carried out from the building. Jane left him right after that. She had done the damage she wanted to do. She was trying to shake Kailee. Did she succeed? He loved Kailee so much… he couldn’t lose her. Please let her understand.

All chaos broke out once he broke free from the candle effects. The demon, Balor, that had Kailee in his arms, was surprised at how quickly he was free of the candle. And with the werewolves on his heels, he made a getaway.

Trey’s mate had been taken. The only thing on his mind was getting to Kailee. But he couldn’t leave with the others still affected by the candle. He had to destroy the source. He had located it hidden under the buffet table and quickly destroy it. Once the other three men were free from the effects of the candle, they rushed outside.

“s**t they’ve taken her.” Reggie looked upwards and then around at the burning flames around them.

Trey growled angrily and shook his head. “I’m going after her. I need you guys to find Jane. Also, see if the werewolves caught Balor. You guys take care of things on this end. Also, one more thing…” He turned and looked at Reggie, Lance and Grum. “Jane is helping out the Order. I don’t know how deep her involvement is, but I do know there is someone back at the castle who is also assisting them. Get Will and Phill on this too. I expect a full report when I get back.” He took a couple steps away from the men and turned around to face the woods.

“You sure you don’t want one of us to come with you?” Grum asked hesitantly.

“No. Heaven help anyone who gets in my way. I’ll burn the whole forest down if I need to in order to find her.” He then took off running into the darkness. Once he was far enough away, he shifted into his colossal dragon and took off into the sky. He sped along as the wind gushed around him. He was following his instincts and going in the direction of the forest realm where he was certain she had been taken.

It was all trees below him. The deeper he flew in the realm the harder it was to pinpoint her location. He could feel the pain getting stronger and he was feeling desperate to get to her. That was when a beacon of light flashed into the sky. Trey recognized it immediately as the phoenix, Sparks. Kailee had to be there. The bird was letting him know where she was. He flew towards him with urgency. He needed to get to her. He couldn’t relax until he could see that she was alright. He needed to know that she didn’t misunderstand the situation as well.

The light of the moon was darkened as a large creature blocked out its glow. A loud roar sounded from above them as a black dragon made his descent. His gaze was locked onto Kailee as he flapped his wings lower creating a gush of wind.

Kailee looked at the dark dragon. It was the first time she had seen Trey in his shifted form, but she knew it was him. She felt her body responding immediately as she looked at him. Once his feet touched the ground he was back in his human form once again. She watched as he raced towards her and all but skidded into her on the ground. Small particles of the earth sifted into the air as reached for her. His arms wrapped around her and he pulled her deep in his embrace.

“Kailee. Thank goodness. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.” Trey pressed his cheek into the top of her head as he looked up at the three people around them. Sparks lowered himself next to them as well.

Trey pulled away and tilted her chin up to him. “Baby I would never-”

“Trey, I know. It was because of the candle. But even before I knew about the candle I already knew. I told you I trust you.” She gave him a pained smile as the burning inside of her began to intensify.

Trey leaned his forehead into hers and sighed with relief. He took in a deep breath that he had been denying himself. He brushed his lips against her nose. He could feel the discomfort inside of him and could see she was also uncomfortable. He looked up at the others. His eyes settled on the one who smelled like a werewolf.

“Alistair, I presume?” Trey asked and watched the man shake his head.

“Young dragon prince, we don’t have time to go into details. We are removing the cuff and letting Kailee fully embrace her magic. We can talk about what all of this means later. It’s like ripping off a bandage. We need to do this fast so that the pain doesn’t continue to trickle through her. I’m not sure how much good it will do but as her mate… maybe being with her can help.” Alistair took a step towards them and knelt in front of Kailee. He looked into her eyes that were showing discomfort and frowned. “Are you ready Kailee? It will be an intense pain but should subside before too long. Remember to keep your choice in mind when your magic enters you. It will know your will.”

Kailee nodded her head. She felt Trey’s arms wrap her more into his chest. His strong honey and cedar scent helped relax her. Having him by her side gave her confidence and strength. There was also a sense of comfort having him there. She felt relieved seeing he was alright. Even though they told her he would be fine, inwardly she was still worried about him.

Alistair reached his hand forward and placed it on the metal cuff. “Ready, Kailee?” He looked into her eyes and watched her nod again. He gripped onto the metal on her wrist and slid it off. Slowly backing away to give her some space to go through her magic acceptance.

Her chest immediately felt heavy. It felt as if it was being squeezed as a volcanic pressure built up inside of her. Hot liquid iron was filling up her insides, scorching her. And the moment it began to become too much she felt Trey’s sweet warm lips meet with the mark on her neck. A gentle heat embraced her and pushed over her body drowning out and cooling the molten lava inside of her.

A bright white light embraced her from the inside and out. It was like being kissed in an illuminating moonbeam. She closed her eyes and behind the darkness of her eyelids, she saw something white running towards her. She watched as a sparkling horned horse walked into her. She reached out her hand and it pushed its nose into her fingers. This was her. It wasn’t another existence inside of her, but it was just her. As if looking at her reflection. Her inner self. A natural feeling energy swirled inside of her. She recognized it. She knew it. As if she had always known it. She could sense it and it was guiding her. Almost as if it was mapping itself inside of her. Just as a bird knows how to fly when it leaves the nest, she just understood herself and her magic.

The vivid light finally began to fade. She kept her decision fast in her mind. She could feel the energy swirl around it in acceptance. And it was as if the veil was lifted. She opened her eyes, finally, she had awoken. And while she didn’t shift into her form, she was still the creature of magic. The last unicorn was now awake.

Leeta had tears in her eyes as she leaned up next to Oliver. The awakening of the unicorn had begun to stir the senses of the forest. It recognized her power. And she was already extending her blessings to it.

“It’s so good to have your light Kailee.” Alistair said with a small smile.

“You did well my lady. I’m so happy that our queen has finally awakened.” Oliver said looking at Kailee proudly.

“Your queen?” Trey asked looking up at the three people in front of him. Kailee lifted her head up and he looked into her eyes.

“I guess it is time to finally tell you about myself, Trey. Now that I finally know who I am and what I have to do.” Kailee quietly began explaining everything about herself to Trey. She told him about her grandmother and her grandfather. She told him how she was the last unicorn and how she has chosen to stay human so that she could be with him. And then she told him the last part. How it was her responsibility to take care of Bane. But that she didn’t want to destroy him. She wanted to purify him. She could see the heavy scowl on his face. And she sat there quietly waiting for his response.

“Kailee… my job is to prevent Bane from ever being resurrected. And I am going to do my best to succeed there. And if by some chance that doesn’t work out… I don’t think purifying him is a good idea. I think we are best to rid the world of his existence. I don’t want to risk losing you.” Trey could see Alistair nodding in the background agreeing with him.

Kailee smiled and shook her head. “No, now more than ever I believe I am supposed to purify my grandfather. The forest needs their forest spirit back. Especially since I have chosen not to remain here. My place is with you, Trey. But I still need to make sure this place is taken care of. And with me by your side, we can finally unite all of Monog.”

“Yes, she is right. She is our queen. With her by your side, it will be uniting all of us.” Leeta smiled looking up at the sky. The gods had to have had their hand in all of this.

Trey leaned his head closer to Kailee brushing the side of her head with his nose. It was a lot to take in, but she was perfect. There was no way a better mate for him could ever exist. Having her by his side, he would be able to accomplish what no one else could. And that was to have complete unity of the kingdom. He was a bit in shock hearing that she was a unicorn. Hearing about how her existence was kept in secret made sense why no one knew about her. In a way, he was the one who felt unworthy. He might be the prince of Monog, but she was the last unicorn in the world. And she was his mate, and he was hers.

How did he ever deserve to have her? No one could ever object to him taking her for a mate, but everyone could object to her taking him. Someone so rare deserved the best and she was choosing to be with him. He may not ever feel like he could ever deserve her, but he would do his best to try to be someone who did.

And just when he thought he couldn’t love her anymore… he fell even deeper.
