"Whoa!"

Suddenly, my mouth was filled with a strong, musky scent that screamed all things male.

My eyes widened in sheer panic!

I flailed, trying to push the weight off me!

But he was like a boulder, immovable. In a fit of desperation, I bit down hard!

"Ouch..."

Jack yelped in pain.

But I was relentless, clinging on like my life depended on it!

Soon, the taste of iron flooded my mouth as blood mingled with saliva.

"Let...go..."

His words were muffled, punctuated by my unyielding grip.

Out of options, Jack pinched my cheeks, forcing me to release him.

Realizing how violently I was shaking, he panicked... He had crossed a line!

"Hey, it's me, Jack! Look at me," he urged, ignoring his torn lip, his hand gently stroking my arm. "It's just me, no one else." Silence hung between us for a heartbeat, then another.

I stared at him, unblinking.

Then, realization hit, and I glared, my voice laced with fury, "Why the heck did you scare me? Is this some kind of sick joke to you?" "I'm sorry..."

Jack's apology was sincere. "I got carried away...you were screaming my name in fear...I couldn't help myself."

He took my hand, his gaze intense yet tender.

"Why were you calling for me? In danger, and I'm the first person you think of? Do you trust me that

much? Or, maybe, do you get

actually

like me?"

Slowly coming back to my senses, clarity returned to my eyes.

In a flash, I pushed him away and bolted into the walk-in closet. "Hey!"

Jack crumpled to the floor, wincing in pain.

'Thud', the closet door slammed shut.

Rubbing his brow in frustration, he stood up and knocked gently.

"Come on, talk to me."

Silence.

He waited patiently, "I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have scared you. I promise, it won't happen again..."

After what felt like an eternity, the door creaked open, revealing me in a fresh set of clothes.

"Okay, spill. What are you doing in my room?" My voice was stern, my eyes still flashing with anger. "Well..."

Jack looked even more sheepish, almost shrinking in size.

"Sharing a room with another guy was a nightmare...his breathing was loud, he tossed and turned all night, not to mention the snoring and teeth grinding!"

The snoring was real; the teeth grinding, a fabrication.

"I couldn't sleep a wink. And you know, with my condition, I need my rest. That bodyguard of yours wouldn't let me be alone...I had no choice but to seek refuge here."

I watched him, my anger subsiding a notch as I puffed my cheeks, squinting, "Did you plan this?"

Caught off guard, Jack's lips twitched into a smile, "You caught me."
