When We Meet Again
Chapter 67

Charlotte was seated in the living room, scrolling through her phone. She had decided not to go to work; she didn't have the zeal. Bella joined her in the living room. She did not go to work either because she had a meeting with an investor; she will be starting her Fashion school in a few weeks.

"You know Melvin is living today right?" Bella asked, after a few minutes of silence. "Are you going to let him go, without talking things through with him?"

Charlotte nodded but said nothing. She knew Melvin was leaving today but wasn't going to do anything about it, though she was bothered.

"Are you sure this is what you want?" Bella asked but Charlotte gave no reply. "I thought you still loved him too," Bella continued. "Do you really, want him to go? I know he is the reason you could not go to work today. Are you sure you will not regret it? Because I am sure you will."

Charlotte stared at Bella. Bella was right. She still loves him, though she doesn't want to accept it. She had loved him before they divorced and had never stopped loving him. All the times he had asked for her forgiveness, she had thought about forgiving him but she was afraid.

What if she gets hurt again? What if all that he said were lies? What if she gave him her heart and he shattered it like he did before? What if Alexia returns and she has to go through the same pain over again?

Those were her fears, and that had made her lock her heart towards him. A lot of people tried to make her change her mind but she was adamant. For the past few days, she had been thinking about it, and now that she thought of changing her mind, he was leaving.

She sighed. "But it is too late."

Bella shook her head and held Charlotte's hand. "His flight takes off in six hours. If you leave now, you will make it to the airport before his flight takes off."

Charlotte furrowed her brows. "Really?"

Bella nodded. "Yes."

"Do you think he will be happy to see me?" Charlotte asked.

She was worried Melvin might already have a change of mind. Bella smiled. "I am sure he will be waiting for you."

"Then I should go meet him," Charlotte said, standing up.

Bella stood up too. "I should go with you."

They left the house together and headed to the airport in a taxi to board a plane. Luckily for them, they got there just in time. Bella called Mia before the plane took off to find out if Melvin left already, but he told them they were still out at home and would be leaving in a few hours. Charlotte breathed a sigh of relief. When they landed too, Bella called again to confirm and Mia told them they were on their way already. "We will be waiting," Bella answered.

Melvin, Mia, and a few other people arrived at the airport. When Charlotte saw him, her heart skipped a beat. Melvin saw her and was surprised; he stopped walking.

Did she not insist on not changing her mind? He thought. Why is he here?

"Charlotte?" he cooed and she ran towards him.

"Melvin," Charlotte cooed. She moved closer to him and hugged him. "P-promise me you will not hurt me again. Promise me you won't leave me."

Melvin held her tightly. "I will not leave you, Charlotte. I love you. I won't..."

Charlotte stopped him from talking with a kiss. "I love you too, Melvin," she mumbled.

Charlotte smiled. "It's almost time for your flight. You should..."

"There is good news," Matthew said. "Samuel just sent a text. The board of directors has decided that you do not have to go to France anymore." Charlotte blinked. "He is not going to France again?"

Melvin smiled. "I am but this time with you."

The morning air was crisp as Charlotte and Melvin landed at the airport in Paris. Melvin had booked a taxi which would take them to the same hotel they had lodged a few months ago. "Do you remember when we came here the last time?" Melvin asked.

Charlotte nodded, looking through the window, at the street as the driver drove through it.

How can she forget? She thought.

The last time she was here, she was unable to enjoy the beautiful scenery. There was so much tension between them, though he treated her well.

She turned to Melvin, who was watching her with a tender smile. "I can't believe we are here together again but for a different reason." Melvin smiled. “Are you ready to make new memories?" he asked, his voice full of warmth.

Charlotte nodded. "Absolutely. Let's see Paris in a whole new light."

Melvin smiled. "We will."

They got to the hotel and Charlotte stepped out. She was welcomed by the beautiful scenery of the hotel where she had once stayed.

Did she not notice all this when she first came because of the situation back then?

They got to their suite and dropped their bags. Charlotte headed to the balcony. The street was bustling with Parisians and tourists who had begun their day with a flurry of activity. "It's beautiful," Charlotte mumbled.

Melvin held her by the waist. "Yes, it is. Where do we start from?"

Charlotte chuckled. "Where do you think we should?"

Mwlvin made her face him. "How about..." He smiled and Charlotte chuckled.

"What are you thinking?"

Melvin shrugged. "Spending some streamy moments with my beautiful wife."

"But I am no longer your wife," Charlotte said and Melvin sighed.

"You are but I am going to officially make you one soon. How about we go make some babies while we get ready to walk down the aisle again?"

Charlotte hit him slightly. "You're naughty."

"Yes, I am," Melvin mumbled, lifting her.

It was another day and a time to begin their adventure. Melvin had woken up some minutes ago to get ready and had been trying to get Charlotte out of bed, but she was too lazy to stand up. "Stand up, sleeping head." He kissed her forehead.

"Can I sleep for a few minutes more? Please."

"You can't. Get up, babe."

It took a while before Melvin was able to get Charlotte out of bed. She headed to the bathroom to take her bath and get ready. They left the hotel to begin their adventure.

First, they visited a cafe for their early morning coffee. It was one of the cafes, they had both visited the last time. They sat at the same table by the window, and this time, there was no tension, no pretense. Melvin ordered Charlotte's favorite pastries and coffee.

"Remember the first time we came here?" he asked, with a playful glint in his eye. "You will not stop staring through the window."

Charlotte nodded with a smile. "I do. I could not stop staring at the bookshop on the other side." She pointed. "There used to be this handsome man that sits by the window. I..."

Melvin frowned. "Did you have a crush on him, then?"

Charlotte chuckled. "Are you jealous?"

"Was I supposed to be happy that my wife had a crush on someone?"

"We weren't close then and I did not have a crush on him. I only admired him."

Melvin smiled. "It's good to hear that."

Charlotte and Melvin spent the morning reminiscing, sharing stories, and laughing in a way they hadn't during their first visit. This time, they were truly present with each other, enjoying the moment for what it was.

After breakfast, they strolled hand in hand through one of the streets of Paris. The narrow, winding streets were lined with art studios, quirky shops, and musicians playing soulful tunes. When they stood to listen to the beautiful song played, Charlotte leaned into Melvin, feeling a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time,

"It's so beautiful," she murmured.

"It is," Melvin agreed, but his eyes were on her. "I'm so glad we're here together."

They wandered down to Place du Tertre, the square alive with artists capturing the essence of the city on their canvases. Charlotte couldn't resist sitting for a portrait, and Melvin watched as the artist brought her likeness to life with swift, confident strokes. When the portrait was finished, it captured more than just her appearance but also her spirit and her joy.

Next, they headed to the Louvre. The grand museum Charlotte was not opportune to see during their first visit. They wandered through the vast halls, marveling at the masterpieces. They stood in front of the Mona Lisa, the crowd bustling around them. They spent hours exploring the museum, losing themselves in art and history. By the time they left, the sun was high in the sky, and they decided to head to the Jardin des Tuileries. They found a quiet spot by the fountains and sat down, the sound of water soothing and the atmosphere serene.
