When We Meet Again -
Chapter 47
"What if she is here to scam us? Don't you think so?" Bella asked and Charlotte smiled. Though she had doubts like Bella, she did not think that the woman would scam them.
"She doesn't look like she can do that. Or what do you think?" She asked.
Bella shrugged. "I do not want to think that she can either, but I can't help it. Do you think we should trust her?"
Charlotte nodded. "She doesn't seem harmful. Does she?"
Bella sighed. "Well. She doesn't."
"How about we give it a try? Business is all about taking risks. You know."
"I know business is all about taking risks but there are some risks that are not worth it."
Bella still feels uneasy believing the woman; the money she called was too good to be true.
"What if I tell you that this will be worth it?"
Bella sighed. "I will believe you for as long as you are sure about it."
"You do not have anything to worry about. My instinct has always been right."
Bella knew Charlotte was right. So many times she had made them take risks as a team with other departments' heads complaining about it but at the end of the day, they always come back victorious. Not only that, the last few months she had spent with Charlotte had been awesome; very awesome. She had helped her in so many ways she had not thought of.
Bella smiled. She knows that if she trusts Charlotte, everything will go well, and that is what she will do.
"You should also know that we won't pay or sign any contract without getting a lawyer involved," Charlotte added.
"I almost forgot that. With a lawyer involved. I think everything will go smoothly. I can feel assured now." Bella answered and Charlotte smiled.
"I can tell. We should go back. We can't keep her waiting." Charlotte said.
Bella nodded in agreement. They returned to meet the old woman who was seated and waiting patiently for them.
"We are so sorry ma'am for keeping you waiting," Bella said to her.
"It's nothing. Hope you had a good talk," the woman answered.
"We did. We thought about getting a lawyer involved. Hope you don't mind?"
She smiled. "I wouldn't mind that. But you have to be fast about it. I will be leaving in two days and I need to make sure everything is settled before I leave."
"We will get our lawyer here, tomorrow," Charlotte assured her.
"Then we have a deal."
They talked about a few other things before Bella and Charlotte finally left. Bella was happy all through their way back home, though she had one thing she was worried about, which was how to get a lawyer. Although she knew Charlotte must have met with or maybe knew a lawyer to have said that, she was worried about the payment.
How would they afford it without spending from their savings?
"How are we going to pay the lawyer?" She asked.
"You do not have to worry about that," Charlotte assured her. "Have you forgotten that Helen is a lawyer?"
Bella blinked. How could she forget about that? Helen is one of the best lawyers in the town. She became friends with them, a month ago and they have been close since then.
They got to the house and Bella headed to the kitchen to get a bottle of water and two glass cups. Charlotte's phone began to ring. It was Mia calling. Charlotte picked the phone up.
"Hello, Mia."
"Charlotte! It's been a while. Did you not miss me?" Mia asked.
"Of course I did and you know that."
"Are you sure about that? You did not call me."
"You were writing your exams. I could not distract you."
"Well, I am done with my exams now. You can call me all you want. Where is Bella by the way?"
"I am here," Bella answered.
She had just returned from the kitchen with a bottle of water and glass cups.
"Do you know how much I have missed you?" Mia answered. "I can't wait to visit."
"You should. Charlotte will be opening her fashion house soon."
Mia screamed happily. "I am so happy for you, Charlotte. When did you plan to tell me?"
"When everything is set," Charlotte answered.
"Because you do not want me to help?"
Charlotte sighed. That was one of the reasons she did not tell Mia. She also wanted to surprise her; it would be her birthday soon and she wanted her to be the first to try on the clothes her fashion house would be making. "Your exams were the reason, not that." Charlotte covered up.
She doesn't want Mia to feel bad that she kept rejecting her help. Mia could also tell that Charlotte didn't want her to feel bad.
"How long has it been since you left? I am happy you are doing pretty well already." She answered.
How she wished her brother did not divorce her. Things would have been different.
"Is everything okay?" Charlotte asked.
She could sense the sadness in Mia's voice.
"Everything is fine. I am just happy for you. I have to go. I've got a few things to do. I will call in the evening."
Mia ended the call and Charlotte sighed.
"Do you think she is okay?" She asked Bella.
"I do not think she is. Her voice said it all." Bella said. "You should find out what is wrong when she calls in the evening."
"And if she doesn't?"
"Then you call her," Bella said and Charlotte sighed but said nothing. "I think you should call Helen. We need to meet up before tomorrow." Charlotte nodded. "Yes, I should."
**
Ryan and David got to Melvin's mansion. They met Hannah in the living room who told them that Melvin was waiting for them in his room. "Can you get us some bottles of alcohol from the cellar?" Ryan said.
"You are not here to take alcohol, Ryan," David answered.
"But I need that to think well," Ryan said. "Hannah, please do me a favor and get me some bottles. Two should be enough. David here is not interested in drinking and your boss... Nah, he is not in the state to want one." Hannah nodded. "I will get them for you."
"Just make them four. Matthew will be here soon." David said.
He had thought about it and Ryan was right. A few cups of alcohol might help them think properly.
Ryan smiled. "Hannah, do you need help? Four bottles and four glass cups will be a bit heavy for you." Ryan answered with a smirk.
Ryan wanted to tease David indirectly. David had told him that he was not here for alcohol but he could tell that the four bottles belonged to the four of them.
"I am going to meet Melvin upstairs. It will be nice Ryan, if you help her out." David said.
"Of course, I will," Ryan mumbled.
"Some snacks will not be bad either," David said.
"I will make some cookies," Hannah said.
"That will be nice," Ryan replied.
"I am leaving," David said, heading upstairs.
Ryan followed Hannah to the wine cellar. They got four different brands of alcoholic wines according to each person's preference; Ryan made sure of that.
"I will take the bottles upstairs," Ryan said.
"I will get the glass cup from the kitchen," Hannah said.
Ryan left for Melvin's room while Hannah went to the kitchen to get a tray and four glass cups. She brought out a pack of cookies too; they could eat that while she prepared new ones.
She headed upstairs and knocked at the door. Ryan was the one who opened the door.
"Thank you, Hannah,". He took the tray from her. "When Matthew shows up, send him upstairs."
Hannah nodded. "I will."
