When We Meet Again
Chapter 37

Alexia's return was a surprise to Melvin; he had not expected her to return so soon, let alone meet her in his place when he returned. Her return was supposed to make him happy but it did not, instead he began to wonder why she returned without notice.

Could the identity of Charlotte as his wife that is being exposed, be the reason why she came back? Or did she return because she was ready to settle down with him?

Melvin kept staring at her as she walked down the stairs. She moved closer to him, touching the collar of his shirt.

"Baby, why are you not saying anything? Don't you miss me?"

"Why did you not tell me that you would be coming back," Melvin asked ignoring her question.

Melvin's reply was a shock to her. She had expected him to be happy to see her.

Why is he acting so indifferent toward her?

She frowned. "Is that your way of welcoming me?"

"That doesn't answer my question. Why did you not tell me you were coming back?"

"I wanted to surprise you," she answered. "Can't I surprise the one I love with my return?"

Melvin moved her hand away from his collar. "And you think showing up without prior notice is a good way to surprise me? You haven't called me in two years."

Alexia shrugged. "Well, I did have a reason not to call you. I've been very busy, you know that. You know the kind of job I do." Melvin frowned. "Fine, I am sorry. I should have found a way to get in touch with you." Melvin sighed. What did he expect from her? She has always used her job as an excuse.

"You do not want me here, right? It seems you are not happy to see me. Maybe I shouldn't have come here in the first place." Alexia mumbled loud enough for Melvin to hear but when Melvin gave no reply, she began to cry. "Do you know how many concerts I canceled just to be here? Do you know..."

Melvin could tell her cry wasn't real; this wasn't the first time. He sighed. "I am sorry. You should stop crying. I do not mean to make you cry."

Alexia sniffed. "I think you want to. Look at the way you are speaking to me in front of your friends and also your worker."

"I am sorry," Melvin pleaded, holding her hand.

Alexia raised her brows. "Are you happy to see me now?"

Melvin nodded. "I do. I am happy to see you."

"Then you should hug me."

Melvin pulled her into a hug and she chuckled. Matthew and David who had been watching them exchanged glances.

"Can we go in now?" Alexia asked.

Melvin nodded. "We can. Hannah, please take my box to my room,"

Alexia held the box quickly before Hannah could.

Hannah held it too. "I..."

Alexia pushed Hannah's hand away slightly. "I will take it upstairs myself."

Melvin sighed. "Don't worry Hannah. Let her take it."

Hannah nodded. "Okay, sir."

"Matthew, David. I am so sorry for keeping you waiting." Matthew and David nodded but said nothing. "Please, you guys should have your seats. I will go upstairs and take my bath and join your guys later." "Don't worry about us," David said.

Matthew sat down. "We will feel at home,"

"Hannah, please get them something to drink. When I come down we will eat together."

"Can we go now?" Alexia mumbled, pulling Melvin's shirt slightly.

"What are you doing?" Melvin whispered back. He turned to face Matthew and David. "I will leave you guys to have fun."

Melvin and Alexia went upstairs while David joined Matthew on the couch.

"I do not think Melvin knows about it," Matthew said. "He did not speak about it during our drive here. He also isn't angry with Alexia for what she did."

David shrugged. "Maybe he knows but decided not to talk about it."

"I doubt that. Do you not see how he bashed her for showing up without telling him?"

"What if he doesn't want to talk about it with us here," David said.

"And you think he would keep it away from us too?"

David sighed. "Maybe you are right. He doesn't know about it. We have to keep it that way. He can't find out."

Matthew sighed. He doesn't plan to talk about it anymore. "I won't be saying anything. We need to speak to Ryan though. So he won't talk about it when he comes here." "Talking of Ryan. He should be here already. What could he possibly be doing?" David asked.

"Maybe something came up. Should I call him and tell him about it?"

David nodded. "You should, please."

Matthew brought out his phone and placed a call to Ryan.

"Are you missing me already?" Ryan said the moment he picked the call up.

"You must think I miss you every moment. Where are you?"

"I know you miss me but you won't admit it. I am closed by already. Do not miss..."

Matthew scoffed. "Don't get ahead of yourself."

"Of course, I am not. It's the truth."

"Whatever" Matthew mumbled. "I called because I have something important to say to you. Not because I missed you as you thought. You said you are close right?" "Yes,"

"Good. When you get here, you can't speak about what Alexia did. Melvin doesn't know about it and we want to keep it that way."

"I do not plan to say anything though. But I think we should tell him about it."

"We will tell him about it but not now. So you can't tell him."

"Okay. But you don't have to worry though, he won't find out if any of us do not talk about it. And Alexia promises not to cause any more trouble too," Ryan replied.

"I hope she doesn't. I doubt it though. With her return to Melvin's life. His marriage is already on the verge of divorce."

"Alexia is around?" Ryan asked.

"Yes," Matthew replied. "She did not tell you?"

"She did not. And I did not speak about it though."

"It's strange that she did not tell you of her return.

"How did you know that she is back?"

"We met her in Melvin's mansion when we got there. But why would she not tell...?"

"Maybe she has her reason," Ryan mumbled. "You should end the call. I am driving. I will join you guys soon." Matthew ended the call and turned to face David. "You won't believe it. Ryan doesn't know that Alexia is back." "She did not tell him?" David asked.

Matthew nodded. "Yes, she did not. Though she promised him not to cause any trouble. I do not believe her though. Something must be fishing about her return." David furrowed his brows. "Fishing?"

Matthew nodded. "Yes. That is what I think. Or why would she not tell Ryan she is back? What do you think?"

"Matthew, she might be feeling guilty for not calling him while she was away. You know how close they were before she left."

"Are you saying nothing is fishing about her return?"

David sighed. "I am not saying that. I am just saying that you might be overthinking the whole thing. I know that her return was sudden. It's normal to have doubts."

Matthew sighed. He is certain that there is something strange about Alexia's return. Or why would she return without notice? The media aren't saying anything about her return. He knows how much she likes the media. "What if she had used Melvin's scandal to cover up her return?" Matthew said.

"Matthew. Can you stop overthinking the whole situation?"

Matthew sighed. "Fine. I won't overthink it." David nodded but said nothing.

Matthew could not stop thinking about what he had just said. He had just thought about it and realized that might be the reason.

"Are you okay? You seem lost in thought." David said.

"I am fine. I think I have to get the drinks myself. Hannah isn't here yet. And I am so thirsty." He said.

He had thought of getting the drinks as a way not to make David ask him further questions.

"I was about to say the same thing," David said.

Matthew stood up. "What drink do you care for?"

"Anything sweet and chilled," David replied.

"Will you be okay with orange juice?"

David nodded. "I will be. What are we going to do when you get back? We can't just sit and wait for Ryan to come. We do not know how long it will take Melvin to come down with Alexia around." "How about we play video games?" Matthew suggested.

David nodded. "That is a good idea. I will get everything ready before you come back."

Matthew nodded. "Fine."
