Chapter 0976
“Um… Did I say anything wrong?” Miranda asked.
The veins in Paul’s forehead were throbbing.
She began analyzing with a smile. “The fact that he gave me a reminder instead of demanding an answer in a rage shows that he has a kind nature. At the very least, his values are solid.
“Once everything was cleared up, he was able to take things in stride and let go without being clingy. That means he has boundaries and self–respect.
“As for being professional… He has a lot of knowledge in material sciences. Otherwise, the person in charge over at Zettenburg wouldn’t hold him in high regard at such a young age.”
The more Paul listened, the tighter his grip on the steering wheel became.
Finally, he was unable to bear it. “Then-‘
Turning to Miranda, he noticed her teasing and amused gaze. “Were you doing that on purpose?”
She feigned innocence. “I was just giving an objective evaluation. What do you mean by doing it on purpose?”
Paul cleared his throat. “Then tell me… Between him and me, who’s the better one, and who’s more professional?”
Miranda couldn’t help but burst into laughter. She laughed so hard that her eyes crinkled, and her stomach began to ache. “I… thought you wouldn’t ask, but you actually did!”
He sighed helplessly. “Are you still saying that you didn’t do it on purpose? You’re caught red- handed, young lady!”
She continued laughing.
“You’re still laughing?”
“Can’t I laugh? You’re so controlling…”
A look of frustration flashed through Paul’s eyes. “Mimi, that’s enough. Stop laughing.”
However, she couldn’t stop herself.
“If you continue laughing, believe me… I’ll-”
“What will you do?” Miranda gave him a defiant smirk, like a rebellious student going against her teacher. She stared at him with a challenging gaze.
Paul unbuckled his seat belt and leaned in closer to her. The sudden decrease in distance brought their breaths close enough to intertwine

Miranda stopped laughing abruptly. Her breath was caught in her throat as she tried to speak, “You… What are you doing?”
“Are you still going to laugh?”
Miranda couldn’t help but swallow nervously when she noticed the unmistakable intensity in his eyes and the scorching heat from his breath. “I’m not laughing.”
Paul’s dark eyes locked onto her. He seemed to be caught in an internal struggle as he suppressed his raging desires.
Just as Miranda was about to say something, Paul suddenly withdrew and pressed his back to the seat with a heavy exhale.
“What do you want to eat?” He composed himself and turned back to Miranda. His gaze had returned to its usual gentleness.
Miranda cleared her, throat. “So, you don’t want the answer to the question earlier anymore?”
Between him and Sawyer, who was better and more professional…
Paul sighed and said, “I do, but I’m afraid to ask.
“Why is that?” She blinked.
“The more I want to know the answer, the more you’ll refuse to answer and keep me hanging.“,
Miranda’s intentions were exposed, and she cleared her throat awkwardly
Paul started the engine. “Miranda, you’re quite naughty sometimes.”
She knew what to say to provoke him, and she knew exactly how to get him to take the bait. Miranda announced, “I want barbecue.”
Paul nodded. “Alright.”
The car sped away, and the two of them went to a barbecue restaurant near their apartment building.
He parked in the garage first. When he came out, they walked to the restaurant together. They had been here once before. The flavors were as good as ever.
Miranda focused solely on eating, leaving the ordering and barbecuing to him.
After the meal, Paul went to settle the bill. Hand in hand, they walked home together under the bright moonlight and twinkling stars.
Illuminated by the streetlights, the shadows from their figures walking side by side seemed to Jean closer, almost as if they were embracing.
Miranda noticed that he had a constant smile on his face. “Dr. Jefferson, it’s rare to see you smile like this. I can’t help but feel a little unsettled…”
