Miranda said nothing. The lab needing to undergo renovations was a fact, and so was the lack of results. There was nothing to argue about.

She sat back down. Coincidentally, she was seated next to Tina, who couldn’t help but chuckle. “So, you’re finally getting what you deserve, Miranda.”

Miranda replied, “Life has its ups and downs. Everyone hits rough patches, and what goes around comes around. My luck today could easily be yours tomorrow

“You’re just being stubborn! Tina spat.

Miranda ignored her and looked straight ahead. There was not a hint of anger on her face.

Tina became more irritated seeing Miranda being so calm.

“Do you really think you can stand against Dr. Xander? Dr. Young might have had a chance in her younger nce in her younger years, but she’s old now. She can’t compete with her, nor can she fight back. As her student, you’re bound to be bullied as you don’t have any backing.

“Remember when I fought tooth and nail to be Dr. Young’s graduate student? You won, and I lost. But who would have thought things would turn out this way?

“Sometimes, winning isn’t really winning, and losing isn’t really losing. You couldn’t have predicted that things would end up like this, could you?” Tina said smugly, smirking at her.

So what if Miranda got first in the postgraduate admission exam?

So what if her interview results were outstanding?

She invested her own money in getting the CPRT measurement device, but in the end, she was left with no lab to work in.

Tina continued, “Miranda, things have been getting worse for you ever since you broke up with my brother. Did you think you could turn your life around with a postgraduate degree?

“That it’d make my brother look at you differently? Or make my mom regret not having you as a daughter- in–law? Dream on!”

Miranda chuckled, her eyes filled with mirth. She was clearly amused by Tina’s words.

“Judging by what you’re sayingI did turn my life around through grad school, your brother did look at me differently, and your mom did regret missing out on me as a daughter–in–law, is that right?”

“You-

The smile faded from Miranda’s face as she interrupted Tina, “Unfortunately, I’m sorry to tell you that I went to grad school because I wanted to further my studies, and the comeback you mentioned was just a byproduct of that decision.

“As for what your brother and mother think of me or how they react, that is none of my business because I’m not going back, no matter how much your brother admires me or how deep your mother’s regret is.”

“You! You ungrateful woman!” Tina shouted.

“Oh.”

“You’re hopeless! Shameless woman!”

Miranda retorted, “You’re just furious because of your helplessness, and your whole family has an inflated.

ego.”

“What!”

Joli was sitting next to Tina. Although he couldn’t hear exactly what they were saying, he could tell they weren’t having a pleasant conversation from the way Tina was clenching her jaw.

Theodore nudged his shoulder. “Joli, why do you think Tina and Yasmine always target Miranda?”

Joli replied, “There are just some peculiar people in this world. They are incompetent, but they also can’t stand to see others succeed. In the end, they lack both character and competence.”

Initially, Theodore was confused. He finally managed to process it after a few seconds.

“Exactly, but I think Yasmine really is capable in terms of ability,” he said. “I barely see her in the lab, yet she has already quietly published another paper. When will I ever be as impressive as her…”

There was an expectant look in Theodore’s eyes. He hadn’t officially started on any research projects yet. Sophie didn’t seem to put much thought on him. On the other hand, Tina and Hank had their own research directions and projects by now.

Not to mention, Sophie gave all her best resources to Yasmine.

Meanwhile, Theodore was the honest, straightforward type. He didn’t have the wealth of Tina’s family, “Hank’s flattering charm, nor Yasmine’s luck of being born into the right family.

So, Theodore just had to keep working hard and persevere. The only thing he felt fortunate about was Joli, who was willing to lend him a hand as his hometown friend.
