True Love
(Book 2) – Chapter 55

-Rodrigo, come with me. I shout from afar.

-What’s the matter? He said getting up quickly.

-Nothing, only that Grisell wants you to have dinner with us.

-Oh well, so it was Grisell. Because it seems to me that she scolded you to come and get me.

-Shut up! Grisell thinks that if you want to get close to Melissa that I shouldn’t get involved.

-And that’s right. -It’s none of your business, I really like her.

-You, you’re a Don Juan, you like every woman who crosses your path. -What’s the matter, Jack?

-What’s the matter Jack, don’t categorize me like that. I may be a man who wants to settle down. When are you going to settle down?

-That’s none of your business.

-I saw the way you were looking at Megan, she’s a looker, everyone’s talking about her. -You like me, don’t you?

-No! -Let’s go to the house, I’m starving.

-All right, you’re the boss.

The men entered the kitchen and found Megan and Melisa setting the table for dinner, while Grisell was in the kitchen giving them instructions on where the things they needed were.

-Ladies. Rodrigo greeted them by touching the brim of his hat, a custom all Texans had.

-Hello Rodrigo, I’ve already told you that you can call us by our names.

-The custom! I’ll give you a hand with the table.

He began to take some things out of the cabinets and joined Melisa’s side, making conversation with her, Megan automatically moved a little bit away and without realizing that Jack was only a few centimeters away from her, she bumped into him and he grabbed her waist.

-I’m sorry, I didn’t notice. She said nervously, pulling away from him. Feeling the touch of his strong hands on her narrow waist had made her ears hot.

-It’s all right, I think those two can manage to set the table very well. Would you like to come into my office for a moment?

-What about dinner?

-Don’t worry, it’ll take a few minutes.

She followed him down a corridor, the light was very dim giving an air of intimacy between them, she followed him to a double oak door she noticed that his office was quite simple but very comfortable, there was a large black sofa, a well stocked mini bar, his desk was polished wood and his armchair was the same colour and material as the sofa.

-Please sit down. She obeyed.

-What do you want to talk to me about?

-Well, you see, I’m curious about something. You have come to see your grandmother, but also to take her away, haven’t you?

-Yes, although my grandmother doesn’t have much intention of coming back with me.

-And what do you plan to do about it if she decides to stay?

-I suppose I’d leave her, if that’s what she really wants. But I’d come to see her quite often, she understands that she’s my only relative.

That meant I’d keep seeing her, I’d have to keep seeing those wonderful eyes.

-Of course I understand. Her grandmother is unique Megan here we love her very much she is like grandma to all of us.

-It shows! It’s nice to know that she is loved and treated with respect.

-Since she came here she’s always been like that. I was an adult by the time I got here, but I’ve always been respectful.

-Is that what you wanted to talk to me about, Jack?

Hearing his name come from her lips was like a melody to him, and those lips provoked him to k**s them. Why did he have those kinds of thoughts with her? Where were his attempts to stay out of it.

-No, in fact, he wanted to know if he was going to persuade her to take her away.

That meeting was pointless, if he wanted to know that sort of thing he might as well have talked to his grandmother and not to her alone. He was on edge and didn’t understand why.

-As I said, it’s up to her if she wants to stay. But I would prefer her to come with me and live with me, you understand. She’s very old now and I’d like her to leave this domestic life she has here, and rest in my house.

-Do you think she has had a bad life here? He frowned.

-I did not say that. It’s just that I don’t want her to work so hard. It’s normal for me to want her to be quiet in my house.

-Her grandmother is here of her own free will, and she takes care of everything on her own because she wanted to. I told her to find an assistant myself, but she won’t accept it. I snapped at her in annoyance.

-Apparently she didn’t insist much on the matter. He was beginning to get angry because he felt that they were leaving all the burden of the house to his grandmother.

-What do you know? You haven’t been here in years.

She got up from her chair, clearly angry.

-No, I wasn’t, but I am now, and I will assert my grandmother’s rights. And if that means persuading her to come back with me, I will do it, Mr. Manson. Jack also stood up from his chair very seriously.

-I think that decision will be Grisell’s alone, he can’t force her.

-I won’t. I’ll just make her see the way things are and what’s best for her, instead of standing here washing and cooking for a caveman like you. Who has no consideration knowing she’s an old woman.

A caveman? That’s how she labelled him. He rounded the table totally furious, without thinking much, he grabbed her waist, pulled her close and kissed her hard, she resisted the touch of his lips like a wild cat.

Megan for her part didn’t understand what was happening, suddenly Jack was kissing her for no reason. He really was a caveman, but a very attractive one. She finally got him to let go of her with a shove.

-Has he gone mad? Placing a hand on her slightly swollen lips. Instantly tasting something very familiar on her tongue she touched her l*p and noticed that Jack’s k**s had hurt her. – Oh for God’s sake you’re a savage, look what you’ve done to me!

He looked at her swollen l*p with a small slit covered in a trickle of b***d, it was very tiny but he had hurt her and he hadn’t meant to. And why on earth had he kissed her? For starters.

-I’m so sorry Megan, I…

-Don’t say anything, you’re a brute how could you even think of kissing me. You’ve hurt me.

She didn’t give him a chance to say another word, because Jack grabbed her again and gave her another fierce k**s. Again she resisted the clash of his lips, but he held her tighter. Until he let go, she looked up at him in surprise.

-What are you doing? You think this kissing me is a game.

-It’s not, but every time you insult me again, I’ll k**s you in front of anyone.

-He took a step towards her and she fell. Was he serious about his threat?

-I didn’t mean to hurt you, I’m really sorry.

-I don’t give a damn about your apology. She told him angrily, she thought her stay at the ranch would be quiet but it had gotten off to a crazy start.

The door suddenly opened, and Grisell leaned out of it.

-Here you are, I’ve been looking for you for a long time. Dinner is ready!

-Yes, Grandma, I’ll be right there. Megan rushed out of Jack’s office, while being watched by her grandmother’s gaze.

-What did you say to my granddaughter?

-I haven’t told her anything. She lied, but she had.

-You’d better, for I intend to stay, and so you’ll have to see her often when she comes to visit.

He said nothing. If things were going to be like this between them, he doubted that the woman would visit much, it was clear that she didn’t like him since she didn’t respond to any of his k****s. Although those k****s were quite cold, they had awakened something that had been dormant for a long time, but it was impossible for that city girl to awaken any kind of passion in him. He had to dismiss such absurd thoughts from his mind.

-Why don’t we go to dinner?

-Boy, what am I going to do with you!
