True Love
(Book 4) – Chapter 153

Peter was having a drink in the company of Andromeda’s father, the two were chatting about how Peter was doing in his new job. Suddenly the lights dimmed, everyone focused on the top of the stairs where a white light illuminated a young girl who was beginning to pass into adulthood.

The doctor caught sight of the girl he had watched grow up for so many years… he thought Valery was no longer a child, she was becoming a woman. He watched her coming down the stairs, she was so delicate… so beautiful, so… Peter shook it off, pushing away those unrational thoughts. She was his niece, the girl he helped raise. And just because she was becoming a woman now didn’t mean he was thinking badly of her.

Halfway down the stairs, Peter caught her looking at him. But this time it wasn’t one of his usual stares, this one was different. She was looking at him the way a woman looks at a man. He looked away, it must have been just his imagination. And the drinks he was carrying.

Valery finally reached the last step, he noticed her and looked at her. Everyone around him was smiling and clapping. He tried to approach her, he knew that all men should dance with her. Of course he would do it, but out of nowhere a boy arrived first. Asking Antoni for her. Peter thought the Greek would refuse, but at the murderous look Andromeda gave him, he gave in.

-Idiot! Peter snorted under his breath.

He saw her dancing, with every boy, old man and even children… but he still didn’t dare ask her. Even though she wouldn’t take her eyes off him. Maybe that was the reason, her inquisitive gaze made him nervous. But why? It was Valery.

After a few minutes of hesitation, he approached her asking for his turn to dance. She gave him a smile that no other boy had ever given her before. What was happening to her? He took her by the waist and pulled her closer to him.

-I thought you’d never ask for my hand.

-You were too busy. He answers without looking at her.

-Why have you been avoiding me all this time? Is something wrong with you?

-No. I’m very happy because my beautiful niece is having a birthday. -Not at all.

-Niece? Peter looks at her.

-Yes. That’s what you are.

Valery frowns, she hated it when he treated her like that. He wasn’t her bloody uncle. While she went out of her way for him, she kept to herself. Peter just looked at her as his niece. What a cunt! the girl exclaimed to herself.

They continued dancing, Valery was not very happy with her partner but she tried to hide it as best as she could since her parents and other relatives were present…

The celebration went on smoothly, the younger boys went wild including the birthday girl herself. Peter just looked at her out of the corner of his eye, all the boys wanted to touch or hug her. She even danced with many of them, she wondered if any of them were her boyfriend. She doubted it, with the father she had, that wasn’t possible…

Unless she had him on the sly… whispered a voice inside her.

He wasn’t liking where all those questions and assumptions of answers were leading him… since when was he interested in her like that? He took a few more drinks, looking for someone to entertain himself.

Valery was having fun with her friends, but she didn’t take her eyes off Peter. In a mere oversight, she noticed that the man of her dreams was dancing very close to a woman… a real woman, contemporary to him. She felt her heart faint, she knew that. Peter was much older than her, it was only logical that he would want to end up in bed with a woman that night.

She bit her lips because of the jealousy she felt at that moment, she wasn’t having such a good time anymore since she saw him with that aunt. He had to do something, otherwise he wasn’t going to be able to sleep all damn night. And even more so because Peter was sleeping over at her grandparents’ house, which was where she was sleeping too.

She narrowed her eyes and glared at him as soon as he laid eyes on her. He wasn’t going to let her, he wasn’t going to f**k that woman in her grandparents’ house or anywhere else. Valery gave the best smile his lips could muster and walked away from the crowd of his friends to where Peter was dancing with the tart.

-Uncle! she shouted in excitement, interrupting the couple’s dance.

-Oh, Valery! he says, somewhat surprised. -She is…

-Uncle, I’d like to dance with you. She says innocently.

-Is she your niece? asks the blonde.

-No, yes… something like that. He says doubtfully.

-Hold me, please. Says the black-haired girl.

At that Valery offers the red drink to the blonde to stop her. But she had done it on purpose because she poured the liquid on the young girl’s dress.

-Oh, I’m so sorry! replies Valery feigning guilt.

-Valery! Peter reprimands her.

-Shit! My dress…” says the young girl turning around with an annoyed look on her face.

Peter watches his companion leave, then looks at the girl next to him. She had a wicked smile on her lips, and Peter knew she had done it on purpose.

-Why did you do that?

-I didn’t do anything.

-You’re so childish.

-Do you dance with me?

-No. He says, turning away from her.

The young girl smiles when she notices that Peter is still talking to his grandparents… that was safe ground. If he got involved with another aunt, she would look for ways to separate them, that night he wouldn’t be with any other woman.

The night flew by, the guests were beginning to leave… the first to go was the birthday girl. Peter stayed talking to Antoni and his wife for a while longer. Until the doctor got tired of seeing those two proclaiming their love for each other, he decided to go to sleep.

Before he entered the room that was always prepared for him, a slim but very beautiful young woman came out of the room before his. He stops in his tracks when he sees her in that nightgown. From baby pyjamas to wearing such brutality… When did she grow up so much? he wonders.

-You should be asleep.

-I just wanted to confirm one thing. He smiles, leaning back against the doorframe.

-What is it?

-You don’t care about that. She folds her arms, which enhances that rather large bust for a 15-year-old girl.

-Go to sleep… a girl like you should be sleeping.

-I’m not such a girl anymore, Peter.

She tells him and then goes into the bedroom. He clenches his jaw, that damn girl was playing with him. He still didn’t know what she was up to, but the best thing he could do was to leave Greece. Ever since he had seen her, he had been thinking very strange things about her. And that didn’t bode well, it was dangerous… dangerous for him.

Sigh, he would leave in the morning… before everyone woke up. He wouldn’t go back to Greece until he got over the idiocy of seeing Valery the way he was seeing her. Antoni would kill him if he only knew the nonsense he was imagining about his daughter.

-Damn it Peter! You’re such an idiot.
