True Love -
Chapter 13
She looked at him with wide eyes as she nodded her head. If she went against him her aggression would come out again, and the truth was that her cheek would not take another blow. The one he already had was more than enough, because it burned like fire.
-And since you’re covering for your bitch sister, you’ll clean the whole house by yourself.
She watched as her dad made his way to the stairs to get out of sight. She turned to look around the room again, if her father was serious about Daren then what she was seeing was proof of it.
There were so many bloodstains that she assumed someone had died in there, or at least been badly hurt. He clamped his hands over his mouth to hold back the sobs. Things were not going well, she went into the room resigned to cleaning up the mess.
Shery woke up with a deep urge to vomit, her stomach was churning and a herbal taste had taken over her palate “yuck” she thought.
She retched again and couldn’t stand the feeling of disgust any longer, she rolled over on the soft bed and vomited, in truth, it was all liquid so it was easier for her. The smell was unpleasant, and just seeing what she had expelled made her stomach churn even more.
She sat up looking around for water or something to wash down the bad taste. She found nothing… she was alone in that musty little hut, only the crackling of firewood could be heard as a small makeshift fire burned in a pile of heaped stones.
Her head still ached but at least her body no longer ached to move, she reached for her bag but couldn’t find it. The cold was taking its toll on her, she snuggled down with the pretty purple blanket.
She stood up and her legs gave out a little but she was finally able to stand. There were no windows, only a door that was closed and she would leave it that way for the time being, she noticed a bag on the side of the bed, she picked it up and checked it.
-Thank heavens. She said. -Some decent clothes.
She pulled out a pair of jeans and a baggy jumper, everything was a little tight but it was better than staying in that nightgown. She found her shoes, she didn’t feel like wearing them but there was nothing else in her backpack. Just a hat and some pink socks for the cold, she put them on.
White steam was coming out of his mouth, it was freezing cold. She didn’t know where she was but she needed to go and find her sister, she also had no idea if the boy she had seen was just a dream or real. But she wasn’t going to stick around to find out.
He took a deep breath and opened the door very carefully, he looked out and there was no one there, but where was he? All around her was a forest, covered by large pine trees, she had to be in the mountains. Why had she been taken to a place like this?
Well, now was not the time to jump to conclusions, she set off along an open path. She had been walking for about an hour, she was exhausted and breathing heavily, but even so she didn’t stop, she had to meet Eve.
She felt something very strange in that forest, as if she was being watched all the time, in the distance she heard howling but it was still clear. She didn’t think she could be attacked, but she wasn’t sure either and she didn’t want to push her luck.
The pines were so tall that the path was clear, it was all huge tree trunks. After so much walking she came to an open space and then a large stone wall, very solid, what on earth? he asked himself.
-How did this get here? No one has commented on this in the village.
He looked somewhere for an exit and found it, there was a small tunnel between some trees. Only a thin person could fit through there, she doubted she could even make it herself, but she would try.
She looked through the hole and noticed that there was light and a path, she crawled like a bug through the damp earth. When she finally crossed, she could breathe normally. He kept going down but there were no more pine trees.
-How strange!
He turned around and noticed that the stone wall was bigger than he had imagined, it was like a mountain that no one would dare to climb, and that was because it was so smooth that it was impossible. And on the other side it was the same. On the way home, there were no more pine trees, just trees, lots of grass, some wild flowers and it wasn’t that cold.
He continued walking, until he came to a clear hill, he looked out and at last he saw what he wanted to see so much, the village. He hurried as fast as he could down the steep hill without bothering to rip his trousers, hurting himself again.
JB climbed up the trail he had come down to drink water from the creek where he and Ethan used to bathe to wash off the smell of the town. When he got to the cabin something wasn’t right, the door was open and the smell of the girl was everywhere. He rushed inside and it was empty.
-Shit! she exclaimed. -Ethan will kill me.
He went out looking for the scent of the young human girl, it was getting stronger along the path that led right into town.
-And how is the girl? Has she reacted yet?
-Yes, her name is Shery, but I couldn’t talk to her much because she fell asleep again.
-I understand.
-Have you heard from dad?
-Yes, he sent a messenger and said he would stay a few more days, apparently the white wolf pack is reluctant to come with us. The information you left me was passed on to dad.
-Thank you very much! Anything else I should know?
-No, everything has been normal around here. When are you coming home?
-I think tomorrow and I’ll bring Shery with me. But I have a small problem, I need to find her sister, she seems to be in danger.
-More humans? This is getting very complicated.
-I just came to check on you and pick up a few more things for Shery. I’ll be here tomorrow, I promise.
His sister looked at him with concern and reason, but there was nothing else he could do. He was relieved that his father was gone, but he would not neglect his duty. When the alpha wasn’t around, he had work to do, so he needed to have his partner at home in order to do his job well.
-What do you mean he’s gone, JB?
-I went down to get a drink of water for five minutes and by the time I got back she was gone.
-I left her in your care. I claim to him.
-I’ve been following her trail, it’s mixed up with Megan’s. It leads me to the village.
-What the hell! Someone could have hurt her, shit JB.
He transformed into a huge black wolf as he ran down the trail leading into town. The thunder in the sky indicated that a big storm was coming and if it rained before he found her the water would wash away all traces of Shery or her sister and that would not be a good thing, because he would lose her again.
He was worried, for her health, for the wild wolves, and he thought things were going well, he didn’t expect such a setback. JB followed at almost the same pace, they were going at an incredible speed as the girl’s scent grew stronger.
They reached the barrier that separated the territories of the forest and the village. She had definitely crossed, they did the same but through their own secret passage that only blue moon wolves knew about.
Soon they observed the farmhouse and the lights, while huge drops of water began to fall on their thick coats. If they followed her scent they would be able to track her whereabouts before everything filled with water.
-You need to hurry Ethan, the rain is starting to get worse,” Dom was telling his wolf.
-I know, you think I’m not worried,” he said.
-Be cautious, you’re still in your wolf form, if anyone sees them it’s going to be a big problem.
“Don’t worry.”
He was shuffling along, a heaviness was building up in his head so strong he thought he would faint. But she wouldn’t, she was close to home and she longed to see Eve, to know if she was alright.
Her eyes caught the lights of her home, and she knew there was a party of her father’s. She couldn’t go in through the front door. She couldn’t go through the front door, it had started to rain heavily and she was completely wet and cold.
Her head wound throbbing again and again, she walked around the back of the house avoiding the windows. She saw the large tree that connected to her room, it would be a difficult task to do. She sighed in frustration and shivered from the cold. Two dreadful combinations and even more so in her condition, her body ached like hell.
She picked up some stones from the muddy ground, her feet were covered in mud, ruining her pink stockings. She threw some stones towards the window, hoping that her sister was there. And yes, she was, he looked out and when he saw her downstairs in a mess, he covered his mouth, repressing his tears.
-Eve, help me up. He said softly.
-Shery for heaven’s sake!
-I’ve got to go up this way, no one can see me coming in the front.
-I’ll be right down!
His sister left the room and climbed up the branches of the tree, they were too thick to support her weight. He came down so fast it surprised her. He had become very skilled at it, he taught her very well. This one got soaked in the rain, she just hoped none of them caught a cold.
