True Love
(Book 3) – Chapter 105

-Jean, are you out of your mind? If father finds out what you intend to do, he’ll disinherit you. Even me!

-Don’t be bitter… -It’ll be all right.

-I doubt that’s a good idea.

Adrien denied as he drove, wearing his earphones in his ear as he chatted with his brother in front of him.

After dinner, Jean and Antonie discussed the same thing again. So the blond told his father that he would get married, he would agree to his bloody whim.

-All right, Dad, you want me to get married. I will! I’ll get married, if that’s what will make you happy I’ll do it.

-Fine! shouts the old man. -I’ll talk to Adelaine’s father and….

-Oh, no! -He blurts out. -Since this will be an arranged marriage, I’ll choose my wife.

-Jean! Adrien puts a hand on his shoulder. -What are you doing?

-Very well, my boy. What woman are you going to choose? I hope she’s a nice girl.

-Oh, yes! -Of course she’ll be good class, Dad. You’ll hear about it.

After that angry discussion, the brothers left the house. Jean didn’t say anything to Adrien, but Adrien didn’t wait for his brother to speak. Within seconds of being on the road, he called out to him.

-Trust your brother, I know what I’m doing.

Jean cut him off and sped up the car, as fast as the engine would let him. Adrien did the same behind him.

[…]

The girls grabbed their coats and bags to leave the bar, neither of them having had any luck with the tips that night. The other girls earned more because they let themselves be touched, but they didn’t allow it and for that great detail they didn’t earn extra money.

The monthly payment was a long way off, and the pressure of being kicked out of their house was simmering.

-Maya.

-Don’t say anything. We’ll get out of this.

The girls stepped out into the street just as a black Mustang GT pulled up in front of them abruptly.

They were stopped in their tracks by the assault, seconds later a black van parked behind this car. Like an action movie, the Dubois got out of both cars.

Zoé’s heart exploded in that instant, as she felt a strong handshake from her friend. The brunette wondered, what was she doing at the bar? After so many days.

-Hello girls! says Jean with a calm expression.

-Maya! Adrien looks at the brunette.

-What are you doing here? The brunette asks.

-I need to talk to you. Jean tells her seriously.

-We don’t have anything to talk about.

-It’s important. He says arrogantly.

-Come on, Maya.

She pulls her friend, who doesn’t seem to want to leave. But she had no choice but to obey. The girls set off for home.

-Zoé, this is important. It’s good for you.

-I don’t care! She shouts at him.

-Zoé, maybe we should listen to what he has to say, don’t you think?

-No.

-We’re not in a position to refuse a job or anything.

-No. He said firmly.

Jean sighed as he watched Zoé leave, she was definitely very special. Look at her keep turning him down. He narrowed his eyes, he would get what he wanted.

-What are we going to do?

-Follow them.

They both got into the car and followed them. Jean rolled down the window to talk to her as she walked down the pavement.

-Zoé, it’s cold. Get in the car and I’ll take you home.

-No! Leave me alone. I thought I’d never see you again.

-I need to talk to you, about business.

-I don’t have money to invest with you. So we have no business to discuss.

-Don’t be stubborn. Get in the damn car.

The girl stops and puts her hands up. She frowns.

-What the f**k is wrong with you? You don’t understand that I want you to leave me alone.

Jean is fed up with her childish attitude. He gets out of the car, grabs her by the h**s and hoists her over his shoulder.

-Put me down! You f*****g bastard… What do you think you’re doing? He yells at her kicking her.

-Maya, go with my brother, please.

-Hey, Y-yeah… -Yeah…

-Maya! Mayaaaaaaaaa! He shouts at her when he sees her running to Adrien’s car.

The Frenchman puts Zoé in the car and then he gets in himself. She starts hitting him but it didn’t seem to bother him. He started the car and drove in silence.

Zoé seeing that she would get nothing from him, sat up straight with her arms crossed.

At last they arrived at the flat, inside Jean’s car there was tension. As soon as the Frenchman turned the car off, Zoé ran out of the car.

-Zoé! Damn it! He gets out quickly to go after her.

She came almost running down the stairs, behind the two of them Adrien and Maya followed silently. They were a bit more civilized.

-Zoé! F**k, wait!

As he climbed the last step, he noticed that she was standing in front of some suitcases in front of the door of her house.

-What is this? she says.

-Are they his things? Jean asks.

-Yes. She answers in a whisper.

Maya went upstairs too, realising her things, and ran to the door. Where there was a note that said (evicted)

-They kicked us out Zoé! She says in tears.

-Why? It’s still a few days away.

-We’ve been kicked out! she says again.

The brothers look at each other’s faces at the girls’ misfortune.

-What are we going to do? Maya asks.

-They won’t…

-They will come with us. Jean sentences.

-No, not with you. Zoé answers defensively.

-Do they have a choice? He raises an eyebrow.

The girls look at each other’s faces, and it was as if they were thinking the same thing.

-Where would we go?

-To my house! says the Frenchman.

A few minutes later, Jean and Adrien were taking the girls’ suitcases out of their cars. They were standing in a corner talking to each other.

-What a good idea! You’ve brought the lamb into the lion’s mouth.

-I’m doing you a favour, with Maya around you can settle your business with her.

-But she’s staying at your house, you f*****g idiot. She’ll never stay in my house. He claims.

-I wasn’t going to let my future wife sleep at my brother’s house. It wouldn’t look good.

-You haven’t proposed to her yet, and you don’t know if she’ll accept you.

-I’ll make her an offer she won’t be able to resist. He smiles.

-You’re crazy! -He denies in amusement.

The girls watch the boys put their things down as they talk.

-Maya, this is crazy. Look at this place, and it’s just the car park.

-Relax Zoé, at least we’re not going to sleep in the street.

-But what about tomorrow?

-We go day by day… for now, we have to be grateful. They are helping us.

-At what price, you know what they want.

-I wouldn’t be angry to do it with Adrien. She answers, looking at him sideways.

-Stop it! You’re staying with me ok.

-Zoeeeeeeee!

-No. -He scolds her.

-Hey, girls! Are we going or what? Adrien says to them.

They walked a bit self-consciously through the luxurious place. Anyone would feel that way, they went from a mousetrap to a building where the best of the city live.

When they arrived at Jean’s flat, he himself opened the door to let them in. When the girls saw the inside of Jean’s residence, they stopped their steps on the spot. They both looked around, trying to get used to so much luxury.

-I hope you are comfortable! Jean tells them, leaving the suitcases inside. – The kitchen is over there, in case you’re hungry, and I’ll show you to your rooms.

-Separate? Zoé asks with surprise.

-Is there a problem? He narrows his eyes, which causes Zoé’s stomach to churn.

-I’d rather sleep in the same room as Maya.

-As you wish.

He follows the path carrying the suitcases, Adrien was after them. The Frenchman opens a door, revealing the interior.

The girls’ eyes widened as they saw the huge bed, just for the two of them.

-This will be their room.

Zoé was still in shock… it was all happening so fast, she didn’t really know when the time had gone by. By the time she went to look she found herself falling into deep darkness. And the last thing he could hear was a scream, it was a man’s voice shouting his name.

[…]

Something cold and wet was running across his forehead, what was it? He asked himself trying to open his eyes. His body felt so tired, but at the same time so comfortable.

-Zoé? Zoé! Are you okay baby? It was Maya’s voice, what happened?

The girl opened her eyes very slowly to find her friend with a distressed expression and a handkerchief in her hand.

-Hey! You woke up, little one. She smiles at her.

-What happened?

-You fainted in the middle of the room. Jean almost had a fit when you collapsed.

-Jean? He frowns.

-Yes. -He held you and carried you to the bed. You almost fell on the floor, thank goodness he caught you in time.

-I fainted?

-Yes. -We haven’t eaten well, of course. But here’s something to fill your stomach.

The girl put a tray on his legs, almost a buffet….

-Eat!

-Where are they?

-Outside. I had to get them out, they were driving me crazy. They wanted to take you to the hospital. Smiles the brunette. -You just need to eat well, that’s all.

-Do you think we should be here?

-I don’t know… but… in our condition, I think it’s for the best.

She nods, putting a grape in her mouth…
