"What do you mean?"

Diego's tone was very cold, icier than a glacier.

Miranda's heart was beating fast.

She didn't know what went wrong. Diego had never spoken to her in such a cold tone. And she felt that something was terribly wrong.

"I..." Miranda wanted to say something but stopped herself on second thought.

"How dare you!" Diego roared in anger, "You dare to take advantage of my name and reputation to do things for your own benefit. Do you think the world revolves around you?" She felt a chill down her spine.

Miranda's heart was in a state of panic, and she felt the muscles on her face twitch. With a gaze full of disbelief, she looked at Diego, whose eyes were filled with sarcasm and mockery.

He had never been this angry with her. The glare in his eyes was fierce and callous, which clearly showed how Diego enraged was.

"I was wrong!"

Miranda quickly fell to her knees.

Her face was drained of color, and it was deathly pale.

Frantically, she knelt on the ground and begged pitifully, "Sir, I was wrong. I know what I did was wrong. Please don't be angry. It was all my fault, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have ruined your image. I shouldn't have used your name to get my daughter out of trouble. I was wrong. I know I was wrong."

Diego had a grim expression on his face as he pursed his lips. His eyes were filled with anger.

He narrowed his eyes and looked at the woman who was kneeling on the ground. Then, he recalled her arrogant voice from the recording previously.

If it weren't for that recording, Diego would've assumed that Miranda was both a good wife and a good mother.

However, who knew that she was such a sinister and cunning woman.

"I see that you refuse to give up until you've met your doom. If I hadn't asked, you wouldn't have told me the truth, would you?"

Miranda shook her head in response while her heart trembled in fear.

She begged for mercy and spoke tearfully about how difficult it was for her.

"Sir, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. It was all my fault. I really shouldn't have done that," Miranda apologized in a hurry, hoping that Diego would understand.

Diego sneered, "It was your fault? How funny. I don't think you even know what mistake you've made."

Miranda pursed her lips into a straight line with disdain in her eyes. However, as her head was lowered, Diego did not see her expression.

She remained silent as she knelt before him.

Diego snorted and continued, "If you did realize your mistake, you should've confessed when we met my boss and Heinz at the cafe earlier today."

"Maybe if you had been honest, I would've thought that you were wise enough and I would've forgiven you. But I've seen through your acts now. I can't believe you were even bold enough to follow Heinz around as he went to place our orders."

"What did you say to Heinz? It's ridiculous that you went out to negotiate with him! You're really something else!"

When her thoughts had been seen through, Miranda instantly flared up and retorted, "Heinz is not a good person. He told me that he wouldn't tell you about this during dinner, but he still told you nonetheless. He is not a man. He doesn't keep to his words at all! Who does he think he is?"

When Diego noticed the disdain and anger in Miranda's words, he sneered and replied, "Miranda, you've finally shown your true colors. You are a b*tch."

Miranda froze.

Diego's tone turned sombre as he added, "I fell for the wrong person."

Miranda felt that she had been insulted. Diego's humiliating tone made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She took a deep breath, then looked up at him with teary eyes as she began yelling. "You fell for the wrong person? Diego, isn't that too cruel of you?"

Diego merely snorted.

"She's my daughter," Miranda roared. "I had no choice. I didn't know who else to ask for help. I owe her more than 20 years' worth of debt. I owe her too much!"

"Ever since I've gotten divorced, I left Marry in the Smith family. I wasn't with her for most parts of her life. Knowing that something bad happened to her, I felt miserable."

"I am her mother, and I wouldn't want her to go to jail."

"I admit that after learning about it, I was extremely panicked. I know I was wrong for helping her deal with all the consequences."

"I know how you deal with things, and I also know that you have always been a diligent and strict person."

"I knew you wouldn't help me, but I didn't want my daughter to go to jail!"

"If she did, my life would be over. I wouldn't be able to do anything about it."

"Diego, I was wrong, but everything I did was for Marry's sake. I don't think that my mistake was as grave as you make it sound."

"If I hadn't taken action, who would've helped her? Besides, I wasn't doing it for myself. I was just doing it for the sake of my daughter. I did it at the risk of being thrown out of our home, all because I didn't want my daughter to suffer."

"Diego, you are now Marry's stepfather. I also wanted to ask you that since you knew I had a child, have you ever thought of meeting my daughter and caring for her?"

Diego had long felt irritated by her words, but he grew even more furious at the mention of this.

He immediately stood up as he narrowed his eyes and stared at Miranda. He then sneered, "Miranda, I have a clear conscience. When did you ever tell me that you had a daughter?" Hearing this, Miranda paused.

Diego smiled coldly and sighed. "I have been honest and truthful all my life, but I have been defeated by you. It seems that our marriage was a mistake from the very beginning." Miranda instantly looked up in a panic. "W-What do you mean?"

Even though he was still furious, Diego appeared to have calmed down. He replied indifferently, "Let's end this disaster. As you've said, I will kick you out of the Quell family." Miranda was taken aback. After a while, a sinister expression flashed across her face as she glared at Diego and pursed her lips. Then, she suddenly burst into tears.

"You're so cruel!"

Diego frowned. It was the first time that he had seen a woman making such a scene, and he was very surprised.

"You're actually willing to kick me out after all that I've done for you for the past ten years. Even if I was wrong, this is too unreasonable and heartless of you. Diego, you are ruthless!"

"If I weren't ruthless, I would be dragged down before I knew it, especially when faced with a woman like you," Diego rebuked coldly. He did not think much of his decision. "After we sign the divorce papers, I will offer you a place to stay as compensation for your hard work over the past

years."

"You want to get rid of me just by giving me a place to stay?" Miranda roared.
