When Heinz finished smoking his cigarette, he stood up. He cast aside his previous frustrations and he tried his best to lift his spirits and compose himself.

He picked up his phone and called Alex. "Alex, I want you to arrange for someone to check on Marry. You must get to the bottom of it. If someone releases Marry early and fails to follow the due process, he or she must be held accountable."

"Understood." Alex took a quick glance at his watch. Since it was already late at night, he naturally understood the urgency of the matter.

"Also," Heinz added. "I want you to look into Marry's biological mother, Miranda Scott. I want you to track her down and do a thorough background check on her."

"Will do." Alex said, "I'll get it done immediately."

After hanging up the phone, Heinz went out. As he walked down the corridor, he knocked on the door of the guest room which Alice was occupying.

Alice immediately came out of the room and was

surprised to see Heinz. "Heinz?"

"Alice, I'm heading out now. I think you should go and check on Grace as she may be a little anxious. You should accompany her. Tell her that I'm going out to deal with the issue because I don't want it to affect us."

"You're going out now?" Alice was very surprised. "Heinz, it's very late now. Can't you wait until tomorrow?"

"This can't wait." Heinz explained, "We can get the upper hand by dealing with this matter as soon as possible. I don't want to be passive anymore."

After that, he nodded slightly and quickly left without giving Alice a chance to speak.

Alice watched as his tall figure disappeared from her sight. She noticed that he seemed lonely and bleak.

Then, she turned and looked toward Grace's room. She walked over and reached out to knock on the door.

"Grace."

Soon, the door opened.

When Grace saw Alice, she looked at her with an apologetic look.

Grace asked, "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

"I can't sleep," Alice replied.

When Heinz came to her room just now, she wasn't asleep yet as she was afraid that Grace was angry. Now, it seemed that Heinz and Grace had a disagreement. Grace said, "You should get some rest."

"Grace, you're not asleep either." Alice said, "By the way, Heinz asked me to inform you that he went out to deal with the issue. He asked you not to worry." Hearing this, Grace was startled. Heinz did not personally inform her that he was going out this late at night. Instead, he had asked Alice to pass the message to her. She instantly felt a little upset and frustrated. It seemed that her words had really hurt him.

She heaved a heavy sigh.

"Grace, are you mad?" Alice asked as she looked cautiously at Grace.

When Grace saw that Alice was a little hesitant, she asked back, "Do you really think that I would be so petty?"

"Does it mean that Heinz is angry then?" Alice asked again.

Otherwise, he would not have asked her to pass the message to Grace. He would have done it himself.

Grace shook her head. There was a trace of regret in her voice as she answered, "I may have hurt him. I said some unpleasant things and neglected his feelings." "What did you say?"

"It doesn't matter what I said, but the fact is that I feel very depressed and regretful." Grace then urged, "I think you should go to sleep now."

"He asked me to accompany you." Alice was already in her room. "So, here I am. I'm going to accompany you and we can catch up. Grace, I know that you are angry."

Grace felt a little helpless. She curved her lips and said with a bitter smile, "Yes, I'm a little angry. I promised Xavier on your behalf not to pursue the matter, but as soon as you came back, Jensen sent his men to arrest him. I admit that Jensen made the right decision, and I should not have promised Xavier on your behalf. I was a little in over my head. You know what? It doesn't matter if I break my promise. What I worry about is that breaking my promise will lead to him seeking revenge. This is the most pressing concern I have."

"Grace..." Alice understood what she meant when she saw her anxious expression.

"If you want to say something, just say it." Grace knew Alice had something to say, and she did not want to stop her from confiding in her.

"It is improper for Xavier to make that request while he held me hostage. You don't have to worry about the promise you've made." Alice said, "Having Jensen arresting him will show him that we know he was behind everything. That way, it will be easy to deal with him once his crime is exposed."

Grace stared at her. It seemed that Alice, Jensen, and Heinz had the same thought. All three of them felt that it was right to arrest Xavier.

Was she being unnecessarily careful then?

After thinking for a while, Grace said, "Regardless, what's important is that you're safe and sound. You must be more careful in the future."

"I know. Grace, to be honest, I'm devastated." Alice hesitated for a while before she asked, "Is Mom really dead?"

"Yes." Grace nodded. "She committed suicide."

"Suicide?" Alice was shocked. "Did she really do it?"

"Yes." After careful consideration, Grace spoke again, "I don't want you to be traumatized by seeing the crime scene. It was my decision to not let you and Lowell see her for the last time. When everything has settled down, you will be able to see Mom at the funeral house." "Why did she commit suicide?" Alice was stunned. "Because she loved Heinz's father. She loved him so much that she was willing to sacrifice her life for him. He was the only thing on her mind."

What happened was beyond Grace's expectations as well.

"But I thought the man she loved was Mr. Yarbrough?" Alice was confused.

Grace quirked her lips in a self-deprecating way and mumbled, "Who knows? The only person who truly knows who she loved was herself. I have no idea who she really wanted. Judging by her passionate and ruthless nature, I think she did not truly love anyone. But then again, she could probably love everyone."

Alice was silent, but she still couldn't figure it out.

"She's lived her entire life in a blur."

Grace nodded. "Yes, but she had gotten used to living only for herself. So I'm thinking, am I that way as well? In the end, her blood flows in me and I've inherited her genes."

"Grace, are you still mulling over what happened just now?" Alice asked in a low voice.

Grace nodded in response and did not deny it. "It's really complicated."

She felt that she hadn't done anything wrong, but she could not blame anyone else either. She simply did not know what to do.

"Heinz is worried about you," Alice said as she looked at her.

Grace replied, "I was probably being a little unreasonable. Instead of telling me that himself, he's asked you to pass the message... We should go to sleep now. Don't think too much about it."

"Grace..."

"I'm really going to sleep." Grace looked at Alice and said seriously, "I can't overthink. I have a baby to care for. I have to let go of these irrelevant problems. I'll be going to bed, okay?"

She had to remind herself that the unborn baby's health was her utmost priority. Everything else did not matter.

Alice paused and said, "I'll inform Heinz then. I'll tell them to honor your promise."

"There's no need." Grace shook her head. "The three of you are right. This is my problem."

"But..."

Before Alice could finish her words, she was interrupted by a phone's ringing.

Grace looked at her phone and saw that it was a

call from an unknown number.

She frowned slightly, then answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Grace, you little b*tch. How dare you trick us!"
