"Celeste, is there not even the slightest chance for you and Gary to be back together?" Maria inquired when they returned to Celeste's room.

Celeste grabbed a few snacks, turned around, glanced at Maria, and handed them to her. Then she nodded in firm assurance.

"Yes. I don't intend to start over with him again. This isn't a joke. I've already thought it over."

Maria frowned, feeling puzzled, "But when I observed you, you still seem to care about him a lot. Can't you give him another chance?"

"Maria, I broke up with him because I know that we won't turn out well together. It's true that I still care about him. I broke up with him not because I don't love him, but rather, as a result of my personal reasons. I love him, but we can't be together."

"If you love each other, the both of you shouldn't have broken up in the first place," Maria stated seriously, "I can feel that he loves you as well. Just look at him. He has changed a lot."

"Maria, why don't you get it?" Celeste explained, "I don't fully understand him. Throughout the four years, I hardly talked to him and had occasional video calls. I don't truly understand him. Do you know what I mean?"

"I only understand the Gary in front of the screen. I know nothing about his habits, his personality, his everything. I don't know what type of friends he has, what classes he signed up for, the food he likes and dislikes. I don't know anything about him."

"On the contrary, the same applies to me. He doesn't know me either. He only knows the side that I choose to present myself in front of the screen. He knows nothing about what I like or what I dislike." "So the two of us had a lot of conflicts for more than a month. My limits and my opinions didn't matter to him."

"Even with Janice, he did not seem to care."

"I told him that Janice had feelings for him, but he brushed it off with a smile. He doesn't seem to care about flirting with other girls. Instead, I seem to be too meddlesome."

Maria was stunned, "Although I don't know why the both of you broke up, I believe that you must have your reasons. Maybe it's true that Gary did do something wrong, but aren't you being too stubborn, Celeste?

Boys can't let go of their self- pride at times. Shouldn't you cut him some slack? Don't be too persistent. If he didn't go too far, I hope that you two can start all over again."

Celeste shook her head, sighed, and asked softly in return, "If I have to tolerate him every time he goes too far beyond my boundaries as he thinks that it isn't important, would that still be considered my limit?" "That's true." Maria was stunned by the question.

"Maria, I'm serious. I'm concerned about him because I still love him. I do love him very much, but we're not meant to be. A break-up is inevitable. Even if I forgive him now and the two of us get back together, our next break-up may end up in a worse outcome. In that case, we'll have to break up again and again. Why bother? It's better for us to part now and not hold each other back."

"But it's such a pity." Maria was worried, "After all, you two are so close."

Although Maria pursued her studies in England, she had a traditional mindset when it came to relationships, so she was inevitably worried.

Celeste's entire body stiffened when she heard that. She wasn't the kind of girl who would casually date. She hadn't thought of getting together with someone else after her breakup with

Gary.

She didn't want to always be on needle ends and lose herself. That was all.

"Intimacy is probably one of the biggest problems between us. What I want and what he wants are two completely different things." Celeste mocked, "Do you know? We spent most of our time in bed during our two months of summer vacation. Do you think such a relationship would turn out well? This isn't a relationship between couples. We're better off as friends with benefits."

Maria was taken aback as she was reminded of the fact that she and Liam were the same.

Most of the time they met, they went straight to bed without any other thoughts.

Maria understood that Celeste's worry made sense, but that was exactly how Maria and Liam got along with each other.

In fact, when she compared her relationship to Gary and Celeste's, it seemed that there wasn't much of a difference.

Thinking about it, how much did she truly understand Liam?

On the other hand, how much did Liam understand her?

"Well, since you've figured it all out, it's up to you. I won't try to push you in the future. You're right. Instead of having you suffer, it's better for you to let go of each other and be happy. Anyway, it's not difficult for both of you to find a suitable person you both like on your own."

Celeste smiled and said, "Thank you."

"Well then, I'll head back." Maria picked up the snacks and exited the room, crowded with her own thoughts.

When she headed out the door, she saw Gary's tall frame standing still on the staircase with a shocked expression on his face.

It was because of Janice.

Janice was the key to their fallout.

Secondly, it was because they had been far apart in the past four years yet shared a close intimacy in a short period of two months.

She felt like their feelings were solely based on the heat of the moment, not one with emotional connectivity.

It seemed that men and women would indeed see things from a totally different perspective. Celeste's worry was clear and precise.

If he hadn't overheard Celeste and Maria's conversation, he would've thought that he knew everything.

Right then, it seemed that he knew nothing at all.

He carefully savoured Celeste's words, letting them sink in as the self-deprecation at the bottom of his heart rose.

When Maria noticed him, she shrugged her shoulders and turned to walk to her room.

Gary looked in the direction of Celeste's door. He sighed and continued to make his way up the stairs.

He did not know how he should face her, and he was well aware of the fact that some things were not to be rushed. It was better for him to set his thoughts aside for the time being.

Early in the next morning, Celeste went to the company.

When she arrived, no one else was present. She began to sort out her stuff. The information Uncle Logan had given her for the internship was enough.

All she needed to do was to communicate with members of each department by herself. The data she needed had to be verified by herself.

That required her own ability.

In fact, the internship was testing her ability in all aspects.

She had Uncle Logan brief her during the internship. In hindsight, the data she required during the internship would not be completed if she was incapable. Therefore, Celeste took things seriously and tried her best to learn from those around her.

Her colleagues were all on time for work, and Gary was among one of them.

Celeste was stunned when she saw Uncle Logan leading him through the door.

He was dressed in a suit. His suit was well tailored to fit his perfect body, and his face was sharp and angular.

His eyes were like black holes of the universe, deep and pitch- black. He had a laid back expression on his face. It seemed that he was confident and calm.

As soon as he appeared, there was an uproar.

Alex introduced, "This is Mr. Gary, Gary Smith. He's here at our company to conduct research. I hope everyone can lend him a helping hand throughout the internship." Celeste lifted her gaze to look at him. Gary was already staring at her.

When their eyes met, Celeste felt that his eyes could suck people in and have them completely lose their minds.

She didn't want to lose her composure, so she immediately shifted her gaze away from Gary.

Gary greeted everyone and started introducing himself, giving others the impression that he was a man born with great confidence and magnificence.

That was definitely not something an ordinary person could achieve. Gary's innate confidence surprised Celeste.

It was the first time she witnessed that other side of him.
