True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1498
"Hey, what the hell? Are you encouraging Celeste to leave me?" Gary's anger flared up the moment he heard that.
"No, I'm not, but if you weren't my cousin, I would have done so. I used to think that you two were a perfect match, but now I think I was wrong. I feel that Celeste will go on to be the best version of herself, but don't think it'll end up the same for you. I don't have anything else to say, so I hope you figure it out eventually."
After saying that, Maria quickly hung up the phone as she didn't want to keep talking to Gary.
In fact, Celeste had already come clean after ending her call with Gary the other day, including the fact that he did not bring up the issue of her going to Boston. Hence, she thought that Gary didn't really love her with all his heart.
Maria also agreed with Celeste's assessment.
Maria thought that if someone was not obsessed with their partner, then it was not real love.
After she'd vehemently defended Celeste over the phone with Gary, she also texted Celeste to tell her what happened.
"Celeste, Gary called earlier and said that you didn't pick up when he called you. He's a little worried, but I ended up yelling at him for being a bad boyfriend. Are you guys doing okay?"
In fact, Celeste had sent a message to Gary after she declined his call, telling him, "I'm busy right now. I'll give you a call when I'm done with work."
At that moment, Gary didn't see the message because he was in a hurry to call Maria. His brows furrowed when he read the text after he ended the call with Maria.
Apparently, Celeste was so busy that she couldn't even answer the phone.
Hence, he put away his phone and decided to ignore her.
However, he was very annoyed as he paced back and forth inside the apartment.
Meanwhile, Lowell was very surprised to see Gary like this. Gary was usually calm and emotionless, and it was rare for him to act this way.
"What happened? You look pissed off."
"Celeste didn't answer my call, and I haven't heard from her in two weeks. If she fails to pick up the phone when I call, she won't take the initiative to call me back either."
Lowell raised his eyebrows and replied, "Maybe she's really busy. You told me that she's transferred to another university. Obviously, she would need time to adjust to her new major."
However, Gary snorted in reply, "That doesn't mean that she can't give me a call right? What a ridiculous excuse."
He carefully recalled what Maria had said to him earlier.
Gary frowned as he looked at Lowell and said, "Lowell, what do you think is going on in Celeste's mind? Is she mad that I never asked her to come to Boston? Well, I did refuse her suggestion for me to go to London earlier, and we didn't contact each other after that."
Hearing this, Lowell glanced at Gary and said with a smirk, "Haven't you already found the answer to your question?"
"I'm not sure. This only started happening after that day."
"Gary, let's put it this way. Celeste loves you, and she asked you to go to London because she wants to be with you. What was she going to do after you rejected her?"
"You've never brought up the matter of her coming to Boston, and you refused to go to London to further your studies with her. Despite that, you still say you love her, so what is she supposed to believe?" "Now that she's ignoring you, you assume that she doesn't love you. I think it's good for her to be independent. Don't you think she has a right to be mad after you rejected her?" Gary's expression soured after Lowell finished speaking.
His mood did not improve over the next few days as Celeste did not call him. It was as if she'd completely dropped off the radar after she sent that text.
Gary's expression only became worse as the days wore on, and he didn't even feel like talking.
Lowell found it very amusing when he saw Gary like this. Finally, he couldn't help but say to Gary, "Why don't you call her again? You know that girls need to be coaxed sometimes."
Gary stubbornly replied, "I'm not going to. Why should I, anyway? Since she doesn't want to pick up, I'm not going to call her."
Lowell paused for a moment before he chuckled, "Gary, won't you put away your pride just this once to comfort her? Frankly, what can you offer her? Is it just your body? Do you possess the qualities of a true gentleman? If you don't call her, she might really find someone new back in London." "Lowell, get the hell out of here!" Gary pointed to the door as he shouted.
How could Lowell say that about Celeste? His words sparked a wave of anger in Gary's chest.
However, Gary felt incredibly irritated at the thought of Celeste being with another man.
On the other hand, Lowell did not leave. Instead, he glanced at Gary and said in a serious tone, "Take my advice and call Celeste. It's good for a man to be more proactive, and stop letting your ego get in the way. You don't miss your water till the well runs dry, you know?"
Lowell left Gary's room after saying that.
Meanwhile, Gary immediately scrambled for his phone and video called Celeste as soon as Lowell left.
He was impressed that she'd actually picked up rather quickly this time.
Gary looked at Celeste on the screen as she greeted with a smile, "Hey, Gary, how are you? It's been a while since we talked."
Gary's brows furrowed and he looked at Celeste unhappily. His tone was icy as he asked, "I called you last week, but why didn't you pick up?"
Her delicate features seemed even more beautiful in his absence, and her eyes were gleaming. Her smile was mesmerizing, and he was upset that they were separated.
He was deeply aroused by Celeste, and he could not resist the urge to claim her as his own.
Celeste paused for a moment before she chuckled sheepishly, "Oh, it must have slipped my mind. I've been so busy these past few days that I forgot to call you back."
In fact, she told Gary the reason for her failure to call him very calmly, and she didn't seem guilty at all. Furthermore, it didn't seem like she saw anything wrong with not calling Gary for weeks, and this made him even more annoyed.
Hence, Gary couldn't help but ask, "It's been so long, yet you never thought to call me back?"
Celeste paused for a moment before she chuckled, "Didn't you refuse me when I asked you to study in London? I thought you preferred us not seeing each other so often. In the end, I was just going along with your decision!"
Celeste said this so casually that Gary's heart felt like it had been ripped in two. Honestly, he felt as if he'd been slapped in the face.
He never expected Celeste to use his own words against him.
"So, you decided not to call me."
"Yes, I wanted to see if I could go without calling you, and I managed to do so. Although it was hard for me in the beginning, I got used to it after a while. I guess anything can be overcome with a little patience." She was even openly admitting the reason why she didn't call him, and her honesty rendered Gary a little helpless.
Thus, he could only stare at Celeste in shock.
Celeste laughed softly, "You didn't call me after that day, and you didn't reply to my text either. So, I figured that I wasn't really that important to you as well."
Gary observed Celeste carefully and he discovered that she was no longer the same person as she was. In fact, she'd become even more eye-catching.
She had become more independent and tolerant, and she could even maintain her composure with him. In the past, Gary could tell what she was thinking at a glance, but now, Celeste seemed to have become much more mature.
He was unsure of how to react to this new revelation.
After a long moment of silence, Gary asked, "Why did you hang up on me when I called you the other day?"
Celeste pondered for a moment before replying, "Are you talking about the day that I texted you? I was at an event in the school auditorium, so I couldn't pick up. After that, I forgot to call you back." "What? You forgot?!" Gary stared at her in shock.
Celeste stuck out her tongue and smiled sheepishly as she explained, "I really did forget as I've gotten used to not calling you. It was incredibly hard for me not to call you for the first week or so, but it got easier as time went on."
"Honestly, I think that if you didn't call me, I might have forgotten the fact that I actually have a boyfriend."
