Baffled, Maria had no idea where Liam was going with it.

She could only look at him with confusion. He was unrealistically handsome, and he had captured Maria's heart for years.

However, what did he mean by define?

Maria dared not give him a perfunctory answer as she wasn't sure herself.

She felt she needed to be extremely careful with this relationship, worried that it would shatter to pieces.

Her father had just pointed out the problems in their relationship, but who would've thought Liam would ask her to define it the next moment.

That was truly shocking. Didn't they need some time to cool off and think things through?

"I don't quite get where you're going with this."Maria mumbled, "How would you define it then?"

She was worried Liam would end their relationship if he got mad. If so, they would have nothing to do with one another anymore.

Now, they were very intimate.

Although her love was lowly, she still managed to get him.

Meanwhile, Liam could see the fear on Maria's face, which was devoid of a smile.

After a moment of thought, he finally said, "Maria, I'm the one asking here, so you should answer me first."

"Are you trying to draw the line now?" Maria asked fearfully.

"Just tell me what you're thinking," Liam replied, distressed at her sensitivity.

Was his question so difficult to answer?

All he wanted was her thoughts on their relationship.

Hesitant, she wasn't able to find the right answer for a moment, so she muttered, "You asked me what we are. Well, don't feel pressured. I really never wanted you to bear any responsibilities. I just want to stay by your side. I'll be content if you're okay with that."

Liam's eyes narrowed, and his heart ached for her even more.

"I really never wanted you to go steady with me, and I've never expected for our relationship to last. Instead, I just took what I could get and lied to myself that it was enough," Maria muttered slowly, "Can you please not end our relationship so soon? I promise I won't be a bother. I love you, and I can't bear to leave you."

Liam's voice was hoarse as he whispered. "Maria, I want to go steady with you."

"What?" baffled, Maria stared at him in disbelief. "What did you just say?"

She thought she had heard wrong.

"I want to go steady with you." Liam said, "You see, this is where you've got it all wrong. You think I see you as some quick f*ck, and you have zero faith in me. To you, I'm just an irresponsible d*ckhead." Liam replied.

"I don't think you're that kind of person." Maria shook her head, "I chose this. I just don't want you to feel aggrieved."

"How would you know if I was feeling aggrieved if you never asked me about it?" Liam asked softly.

"I..." Maria stuttered. She looked at him blankly as she tried to explain.

"I don't mean it that way. I just don't want to burden you."

"It's the same thing. Your thoughtfulness burdens me instead. Have you ever thought I'm serious about us?"

He said he was serious about them.

About their relationship?

Gobsmacked, Maria's mind was filled with nothing but static. "Do you really mean that?"

"Maria, you silly girl." Liam gazed at her with utmost sincerity in his eyes. "You really know how to make my heart ache."

Was his heart really aching for her?

She suddenly wanted to cry.

In fact, there were some things Liam had no idea how to express if they were to talk face to face. However, he had done a lot of thinking on the way home.

In fact, he had thought about it for the past few days.

If he still hadn't told Maria how he really felt about her, she would truly misunderstand him even more.

"Have you really made up your mind about this?" Maria asked in disbelief.

"Yes. I'm absolutely serious about us." Liam said solemnly, word by word, "Maria Lowe, will you be my girlfriend?"

His voice was low and gentle as he gazed into her eyes; his every word pierced deeply into her heart.

"No, wait, Liam..." Maria spoke but stopped all of a sudden as she gazed at the screen.

This was all happening way faster than Maria thought it would. It seemed that she had grossly underestimated Liam's interest in her as well as her charms.

Maria thought she would be the one giving in this relationship; who would've thought he would give her an answer so soon.

Everything happened so quickly, but Maria was so ecstatic that she felt like she could die happy right at this moment. She still couldn't believe Liam had actually asked her to be his girlfriend.

Liam observed the emotions that danced across Maria's face patiently, and her puzzled expression made him rather gratified.

"Do you really want me to be your girlfriend?" Maria asked again, worried he wanted to take back his words.

"Yes," Liam replied seriously. "Don't ask questions; just give me a definite answer. Will you be my girlfriend? Tell me."

Maria nodded solemnly, without a second thought, "Of course! I've dreamed of this moment for ages."

Liam's mouth curled into a relaxed smile as he heard her answer. "Very well then, I'll go pick you up tomorrow. No need to drive your dad's car. I'll be your chauffeur." "Mm, okay!" Maria was still stupidly excited and she couldn't seem to shake herself out of it. Then, she asked him once more, "Is this really how you want to define our relationship? Am I your girlfriend now?"

"Yeah, you're my girlfriend. Maria Lowe is Liam Robinson's girlfriend." Liam nodded earnestly.

Oh God, Maria was so moved.

Her tears nearly rolled down her face.

Liam added solemnly, "Maria, I can't guarantee anything about the future with you, but I can promise you this. I will be very serious about us. I will not be tempted by anyone else, and I won't do anything that would hurt you."

"You don't have to promise me that. I believe in you." Maria shook her head immediately at his words.

"No, I want you to know this is how I really feel. This concerns my character, and I don't want to have any regrets in the future."

"Therefore, no matter how long our relationship would last, I promise to only be devoted to you. So please give me the time to cherish you too."

"Let's take on the future hand in hand, all right?"

"Okay!" Maria nodded vigorously.

She was extremely awed that Liam would say this, and she felt that he truly had a heart of gold.

The warm-hearted Liam she once knew was finally back.

He used to have a bright smile on his face before it turned into an expression of constant despair. Even then, he could still say this to her. Even if he didn't really love Maria, at least Liam was trying to better himself.

That alone was enough.

It was enough to show that he was a responsible man.

She felt that she had not made a mistake in falling for him.

Maria was so excited that her eyes turned wet with tears. Oh, she felt like she was the luckiest girl alive.

Seeing Maria burst into tears, Liam became upset and asked, "Why are you crying? Was it something I said?"

"No." Maria shook her head.

She was crying because she was moved. Maria was relieved that all her years of effort had paid off.

However, Liam was at a loss as to what to do. He was extremely distressed by the sight of her

tears.

He said, "Maria, don't cry. I don't know what to do when you cry. I really want to go over to you and hug you now."

Liam would always be at a loss whenever he saw women crying.

"I'm fine. I'm just really moved." Maria said as she wiped away her tears, "You're a good man, Liam. I feel so lucky to have you in my life." Liam shook his head and said, "No, I'm the lucky one."
