Maria felt much better after being comforted by her mother. She looked at Yvonne and said, "But he's too annoying; he doesn't respect me at all."

"Your grandmother is reprimanding him now."

"I feel so humiliated," Maria said, "Dad is too bossy."

"I feel awkward too," Yvonne's face was full of frustration, "You are in a relationship now, and I'm already at the age of being a grandma, yet I'm pregnant with another child. I'm in a more awkward position than you; you should comfort me instead."

Maria didn't know how she should react.

"Mommy, I want to sleep," Maria wanted to sleep badly, "If you want some comfort, go find Dad. He'll comfort you."

"Who cares about him?" Yvonne said, "Maria, let's sleep together tonight."

"I'm exhausted," Maria replied.

As soon as Yvonne let go of her, Maria flopped onto the bed like a dead fish and slept. She was worn out.

Yvonne looked at her as she sat on the edge of the bed. She then said, "I don't object to you dating anyone. I don't blame you either if you can't control your desires. But you shouldn't get pregnant. Have you taken contraceptive measures?"

"I have," Maria mumbled. Suddenly, she opened her eyes and realized she had let the cat out of the bag.

Yvonne smiled, "Don't worry, I won't tell your father about it."

"Dad already guessed it anyway," Maria mumbled upsettingly.

"It's your fault for not being careful." Yvonne said, "Was it with Liam?"

"Mommy, can we not talk about it?"

"C'mon, tell me. I'm curious."

"Mommy, are you gossiping?"

"Mm-hmm."

Maria was speechless.

Yvonne laid down beside her and said, "Tell me about it."

Maria had no choice but to tell Yvonne about it, "Mommy, no matter what you say, the only person I want to be with is Liam. I will love him my way. Even if it doesn't end well, I'll give it my all. No one can stop me from loving him."

"I'm not stopping you. I just want to know more about it," Yvonne smiled and said, "Why did you fall for him?"

"He's a nice guy," Maria said, "He's really good to me. I can't really put a finger on it. Anyway, I just feel that he's good in every way. He's the one for me."

"Are you sure your feelings will last?"

"Yes, I've liked him for four years, and it has never changed," Maria said, "I'm faithful."

"Alright, as long as you think he's the one, I'll definitely support you," Yvonne wasn't conflicted at all, "Ask him to come for dinner someday."

"No," Maria shook her head.

"Shouldn't you ask him before you reject?"

"This is something I have to handle myself. Mommy, please stop Dad from troubling Liam," Maria said, "I forced myself on him."

"Sure, I'll keep an eye on your dad," Yvonne caressed her belly and said, "I'll use this little fella."

Maria cheered up slightly and caressed Yvonne's belly, "You can still get pregnant despite your age. You're really awesome, Mommy."

"I want to cry," Yvonne said.

"What for?"

"It's simply too embarrassing."

"Not at all," Maria said, "This little one can be my ring bearer or flower girl when I get married."

"One isn't enough," Yvonne said.

"You should persuade Aunt Grace to give birth to another pair of twins. Since you guys have nothing to do either," Maria suggested.

"Grace already has four children."

"So what? It's not like they can't afford for more." "How many kids do you plan to have with Liam?" Stumped, Maria shook her head, "I don't know, but I can tell he cares about me. Mommy, he asked me to go to his place tomorrow."

"You're going to his place again tomorrow?" Yvonne was taken aback, "This child sure is full of energy."

"Mommy!" Maria cried as her face slowly turned red, "What on earth are you talking about?"

"The truth," Yvonne said, "At least you know it works down there. I can relax knowing you'll have a good life."

For the first time, Maria felt that her mother was a weirdo. She even dared to say such things out loud.

"Doing it before marriage can test whether the man is capable of that. If he isn't, it'll be troublesome to file for a divorce. So why not check beforehand?" Yvonne said.

"Mommy, you have my respect. Your open-mindedness is far beyond the norm." Maria lay down and said, "I'm really sleepy. Please have some mercy and let me get some rest."

"Alright, sleep then," Yvonne continued, "I'll go see your father."

"Alright."

Seconds after Yvonne left, Maria was already sound asleep.

Seeing how tired her daughter was, Yvonne sighed.

Outside, Zachary was quickly approaching Maria's door. His eyes were as dark as a brooding storm, showing how enraged he still was.

"What did the both of you talk about?"

"Secrets between a mother and daughter," Yvonne obviously didn't want to tell him more.

"So did what I think happened?" Zachary was still harped on his imagination.

"No," Yvonne reassured, "You've overthought."

Zachary frowned and said, "Hopefully. You're not lying to me, are you?"

He looked at his wife with obvious suspicion.

Yvonne felt a wave of uneasiness from his gaze, "It's up to you whether you choose to believe it or not."

Not wanting to deal with her long-winded husband, she turned around and left.

Zachary quickly followed after her and asked, "If you don't tell me the truth, I'll go to Liam tomorrow."

Hearing her husband's threat, Yvonne became stern, "Zachary, your daughter said he is the only one for her. If you think that you can change this by threatening him or giving him a good beating, then, by all means, go ahead. But let me assure you that if you do that, you'll leave a scar in their relationship forever."

Zachary frowned and said, "I'm definitely doing it."

"Don't forget, it was also because of your father that Maria didn't have a father for five years, leading Maria and me to wander in America all those years. If you dare look for him, then you better bear the consequences. The only person who'll suffer is your daughter. It's clear she has her heart fixed on him."

Yvonne's words woke Zachary up from his rage.

She knew her words were harsh, but he needed to hear them.

"Do you want your daughter to have a taste of

what you went through back then?"

Zachary stared at his wife and didn't speak for a long time.

However, Yvonne knew she had gotten through to him.

That was all she needed.

The next day, Maria slept until nine-thirty in the morning. When she woke up, Zachary had already left for the company.

When she went down for breakfast, only her grandmother was at the table.

"Grandma."

"Come, have something to eat," Nerissa beckoned.

"Okay." Only after Maria finished her breakfast that Nerissa finally spoke, "Maria, come, let's have a chat."

Maria had a hunch as to what her grandmother wanted to say, but she still sat down regardless.

Nerissa said earnestly, "Maria, girls need to know how to protect themselves, do you understand?"

"I know, grandma," Maria nodded.

"Your dad's doing this for your own good," she reminded.

"I know." "So don't be angry at your father."

Maria nodded, "I'm not angry, Grandma. I just feel awkward."

"Your dad is reluctant to let go of you." Nerissa sighed, "You've grown up in the blink of an eye. I don't want to let you go either, but you'll have to get married soon."

"Grandma, no," Maria quickly shook her head, "It's still too early for me to get married."

"Ask him to come over for dinner then." Nerissa said, "I want to take a good look at that boy."

"Maybe some other day, Grandma," Maria had a strong feeling Liam would be reluctant to do so, so she didn't dare to bring it up, "My classmate is coming over tomorrow, so I have to entertain him. Grandma, where's Mommy?"

"She went to send your brother for dancing lessons," Nerissa said.

"Huh, that fella is learning to dance now? That's promising."

"

After chatting with her grandmother for a while, Maria went back to her room and saw there was a text.

"Are you awake?"

It was from Liam.

She was astonished.

He had taken the initiative to send her a text.

Maria couldn't help but grin.

This was a good sign.

She replied, "I just had breakfast."

"Are you coming?" he asked.

"Hold on. I'll let you know later," she typed.

She planned to go out and buy something first.

It was Liam's birthday the day before, but she hadn't given him a gift, so she wanted to get something to make up for it.

Grabbing her phone and bag, she stepped out of the house.

Soon, she arrived at the mall.

After much debate, she decided to get him a watch.

The one that caught her eye was a blue wristwatch, which was enticing, "This one."

"Miss, this is 127 thousand dollars."

"I'll take it," Maria said, determined, "Pack it up for me."

"Yes, Miss."

After paying for the watch, she placed it into her bag. Then, she got two sets of couple mugs as well.

She had a selfish motive. It was a sign that they could be considered a couple.

One set could be used when traveling, while the other would be left at home.

Hence, Maria made up her mind to give this to him.

After that, she hailed a taxi to Liam's place.

As soon as she got out of the taxi, the blaring sound of a horn rang.

She turned around and spotted Liam's car driving slowly toward her.

Surprised, she ran to him and got into the car, "What are you doing out here?"
