True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1418
"She's fine now, I don't have to accompany her anymore," It was rare for Gary to clarify things first, "You haven't eaten anything yet. Are you hungry?" "I'm not hungry," Celeste shook her head. Her attitude towards him was also very calm as she made her request, "Open the door, I'll grab my stuff." Gary's gaze swept over Celeste's face. He mused for a moment before opening the door for her.
He wasn't sure what Celeste was thinking. In fact, he wasn't sure if Celeste was still angry with him. He was just a little annoyed.
It seemed that the calmer she was, the more worried and afraid he was.
As soon as the door opened, he let Celeste in first.
He felt very upset when he saw her smile. Celeste was still thinking about Janice. Shouldn't she be happy that he was back?
"She's just gone through a lot. If anything happened to her, I'd feel bad," Celeste walked in and said, "It's good that she is fine. Otherwise, you and I would feel uneasy for the rest of our lives."
All of a sudden, Gary grabbed Celeste by the wrist tightly.
She was shocked and turned around to look at him. She found that he had an intense gaze fixed on her, and his expression was gloomy and downcast.
"It hurts," Celeste thought he was angry with her and explained, "I'm sorry. I should have insisted on letting you come back to pick her up. Besides, it's not safe for her to be in England alone. It's my fault that I didn't think it through."
Celeste had thought about it rationally. If something really happened to Janice, her conscience would never be at ease. Now was not the time to quarrel with Gary.
Gary loosened his grip but he didn't let go of her wrist. When he heard her words, he was filled with mixed feelings.
He put Celeste in his arms firmly, with a strong domineering aura yet a faint sense of apology. He muttered, "It's not your fault, I didn't mean to blame you." "Then what's the matter?" Celeste was very puzzled.
Gary pulled Celeste into his embrace and hugged her tightly, as if he was afraid that he would no longer be able to hold her again.
Celeste was stunned for a moment. She froze when she smelled the fragrance of Janice, which had been left behind by her when she held Gary in her arms.
Once she realized that she shouldn't have made a fuss, Celeste broke out of his embrace and cleared her throat, saying, "Let me go first. Right now, Miss Simpson is still in shock. Maybe she needs someone to accompany her. You can go now. I'll be looking through some documents for the time being. It's okay, you don't have to take care of me. I'll call you if I have something to do."
"Why should I accompany her?" Gary was angry, "Why do you keep asking me to go to her side?"
Celeste was stupefied. Once she looked up, she saw Gary looking down at her with impatience brewing in his eyes.
She pursed her lips and said, "She must be very afraid. I am afraid that she'll do something impulsive."
"She's an adult now," Gary reminded her, "She's safe now. Nothing will happen."
Celeste's eyes were widened in suspicion.
Gary explained patiently, "Really, I promise, Janice won't ever act impulsively. She's really a sensitive person. Do you think all the girls are the same as you?" Celeste was stunned for a while as an unspeakable feeling arose in her heart.
It seemed that to him, she was a sensitive person who would act rashly.
His words made her feel speechless, and a bitter smile appeared at the corner of her lips, "Yes, I'm sensitive, so I'm always worried that others will be like me and overthink things. It seems that you know Miss Simpson well, so I'm relieved."
Gary was taken aback. A look of regret flashed across his eyes as he quickly said, "Celeste, that's not what I meant. I'm not talking about you."
"I know," Celeste shook her head and smiled at him, "Though, I guess you don't know me very well either. I'm not really the type to act rashly."
Her attitude was very calm. Frighteningly calm.
Gary was also very dejected. He stared deeply at Celeste, his gaze a bottomless pit of emotions.
"I'll take a shower first. After I take a shower, I'll call for room service to deliver some food for us. Wait for me."
Celeste nodded.
In front of her, he began to take off his clothes and shuffled into the bathroom.
Celeste helped him to pick up his clothes from behind, but he didn't close the door and just started bathing.
She took a look and quickly turned her eyes back to the room.
She had been walking for the entire day. She was a little tired and uncomfortable, but she also knew that it was time to pack up and leave the room, just in case Janice came and saw her here tomorrow. It wouldn't be appropriate if that happened.
Celeste quickly packed up her things. While Gary was showering, she wrote a note and dragged her suitcase away.
She went to the room that she had just booked next door. She wanted to take a bath first and make herself more comfortable.
When Gary came out of the bathroom, he found that there was no one in the room. Every trace of Celeste was gone.
He frowned slightly. After grabbing his phone and the key card to the room, he wrapped himself in a bathrobe and walked out.
After arriving at the door of the room next to his, Gary rang the doorbell.
No one opened the door, so he kept pressing and waiting.
Celeste was taking a shower and she didn't hear the bell at all.
Gary called her again, but no one answered his calls.
He instantly panicked slightly.
Gary continued to ring the doorbell while making calls to Celeste.
Finally, Celeste came out of the bathroom. When she heard the phone and the doorbell ringing at the same time, she immediately walked over to look at the phone.
Gary's call startled her. She looked at the door and picked up the call, asking, "Hello?"
"Open the door," Gary demanded.
Celeste said, "I want to rest. You don't have to worry about me. You can just go ahead with what you need to do."
"If you don't open the door, I'll keep knocking at the door."
It seemed that he would not give up until he had achieved his goal.
With no choice left, Celeste had to open the door.
As soon as the door was opened, Gary entered the room and looked down at her.
Celeste, who had just taken a bath, had a clean and fair face. Her skin was smooth and shiny. Reflected in his innocent face was his own livid expression.
Due to his sudden fury, she looked startled and confused.
Gary frowned and sighed. He reached out to wrap an arm around her waist and hugged her.
Celeste was not in the mood to hug him.
She couldn't help but freeze and said stiffly, "Let me go first. I'm really fine."
Gary was stunned for a moment. In his heart, he was very upset, "Celeste, can you stop acting like this? You're making things worse for me."
Celeste was also shocked by what Gary said. Was she really giving him a hard time?
She wasn't. She had never ever thought of doing so, ever.
After a moment of silence, Celeste said softly, "Wha-what do you want me to do?"
Gary let go of her and looked at her. Her widened eyes were filled with questions.
He was even more helpless and sighed, "Why did you move here?"
Celeste held her breath and explained seriously, "I'm afraid Miss Simpson will feel embarrassed when she sees me there. It's not appropriate for me to live with you anymore. I also want to translate some documents. Since I'll be on the computer for a long time, we will also affect each other if we stay together."
Gary took in a sharp breath. It was hard for him to accept this saying and he snapped, "Why would she misunderstand us? You're the one misunderstanding things! Why are you jumping to conclusions so impulsively?"
His words broke her heart into two.
She lowered her gaze and the hope in her eyes dimmed. She had no idea how to tell him her thoughts. After a moment of silence, she could only sigh, "I still think it's not appropriate for us to live in the same room. Furthermore, you said it yourself that you'd no longer barge into my life. Let's just go back to being siblings and return things to what they're supposed to be."
Gary's eyebrows were twisted into a knot as he said through gritted teeth, "What do I have to do to make you believe me?"
Celeste was not angry and just looked at him quietly, "I don't doubt you. I just think that I'm not suitable for you. I'm too sensitive and greedy. I've thought about it over and over again, and I think that the most suitable girl for you is a girl like Miss Simpson. You both have the same personalities and preferences, so you are attracted to her naturally, but you still don't know that. Meanwhile, I'm the outsider who keeps overthinking and self-doubting my own self."
"Can't you be more confident?"
"How can I be confident when I'm with you?" Celeste laughed at herself, "You're Gary Smith, while I'm a nobody. I'm sorry, but I just can't do it. I'm not fooling around with you today since I think that it's the right thing to do. Don't pester me any longer. Go and keep Miss Simpson company. I promise that everything will be fine."
Gary's eyes became a little colder and sterner when he looked at Celeste. The emotions in his gaze swirled.
Celeste only felt that it was very uncomfortable to be looked at by him.
After a long time, he said, "Well, in that case, I'll take Janice back to London tonight."
"Okay," Celeste nodded, and a smile gradually appeared on her small face. It looked like a smile free of burden yet shackled down by the chains of loneliness. She muttered, "Have a safe trip."
