True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1312
Gary couldn't stop coughing the minute he started. It took him an entire minute to finally calm down. Grace was frightened by this scene. She had never seen her son cough so badly before.
Her pale fingers tightened around the phone unconsciously.
Meanwhile, Celeste's entire body stiffened up and she stared at Grace's phone in a daze.
Her face looked ashen, and there was a trace of anxiousness and worry deep down in her pupils.
"Why do you have such a bad cough? Have you gone to see a doctor?" Grace asked with concern, "I've told Lowell to find a butler for you, but he was not willing to. I can't believe that Lowell didn't even tell us that you have fallen so sick."
Although Grace hoped that her children would experience the cruel world on their own, she couldn't bear to see her children actually suffering as a mother.
"I'm fine, mom," After coughing for some time, Gary flashed her a comforting smile, "It's just a cold. It's not a huge problem."
"It's such a bad cough, but you say that it is not a serious problem?" Grace was worried that it might be pneumonia or some other chronic disease.
"I'm really fine," Gary apologized, "I'm sorry for making you worried," After that, he continued coughing.
This time, it took him unexpectedly long to finally stop.
Each cough of Gary's seemed violent, as though he was about to cough his entire lungs out.
This was extremely worrying.
Gary had yet to recover and seemed to have gotten worse. Did he not see a doctor at all?
Celeste's heart tightened. She lowered her worried gaze and felt uneasy.
How could she forget how arrogant Gary was? Perhaps he fell ill because of their fight the other day.
Was she overcomplicating things? Was she the reason that caused him to fall ill?
Maybe. Celeste had a guess that she was probably the reason.
"It sounds very serious," Grace became more worried, and her tone grew even more anxious, "You're coughing so bad that you can't even breathe." "It's alright, it's just a cough," Gary comforted his mother once more, "I've already gone to see a doctor."
"Really?" Grace frowned, "I'll call Lowell later. If you lie to me, I'll get angry."
"I'm not," Gary assured her, "I've really gone to consult a doctor."
"Okay, I'll trust you," Grace nodded and stared at her son. It was only when some colour returned to Gary's face that she felt relieved. "Mommy, why did you suddenly video call me?" Gary returned to the topic, "If there's something you need to tell me, just go ahead."
"I just want to tell you... Oh, forget it. See for yourself," Grace felt that it would be better to let him see for himself.
Therefore, Grace tilted her phone's camera towards Celeste. Celeste's figure appeared on the screen.
Gary was initially not taking it very seriously until his mother's worried face switched to Celeste's face. Gary thought that he was mistaken. Gary's entire body froze and he frowned. After taking another glance, he was certain that the person was indeed Celeste.
At that moment, Celeste had her head slightly lowered and didn't look straight at the camera.
She probably didn't realize that Grace had pointed the camera at her.
Seeing as Celeste was completely immersed in her own thoughts, Gary felt very frustrated. His handsome face turned gloomy.
Grace shot a look at Celeste and reminded her, "Celeste, it's your turn. Do you want to say hello?"
"What?" Celeste finally reacted. She looked up and saw Gary on the screen.
Their eyes met.
Gary's gaze was cold as he stared sharply at Celeste. It was frighteningly harsh.
Celeste was taken aback. All the words she had prepared to tell Gary when she met him were all stuck in her throat. She couldn't even say anything.
Gary did not speak either. His gaze remained fixed on Celeste, but he asked Grace, "Mom, are you in London?"
His voice echoed in Celeste's ears. It was indifferent and unfriendly.
He ignored her.
She was even more upset and the atmosphere grew heavy, so much so that Celeste wanted to flee.
Just then, Grace passed her phone to her and answered casually, "Yes, I'm staying in London for a few days."
"Oh," Gary responded. His gaze never left Celeste's face but he said nothing to her. It was as if he was ignoring this person.
Celeste looked at him as well. She kept telling herself to not be scared or worried. She told herself that she had to face all this head-on.
However, when she finally took a good look at Gary, she couldn't help but remember the time he kissed her. Instantly, she felt her world crumbling in front of her. She was very upset.
The feelings and memory in her mind couldn't be wiped away.
Beside her, Grace said to Gary, "Gary, I'll be visiting you in a few days. Hurry up and get better. If you haven't recovered, then go back home. You don't need to study overseas anymore." Gary fixed his eyes on the screen, looking at Celeste while he said, "Mom, I can't go home. I'm not a coward. I've already made up my mind and I will stick to my decision to the very end." His words were a double-edged sword.
"I'm not like some people, who aren't able to make up their minds and keep changing their decisions," Gary added.
Celeste was sure that he was talking about her.
Gary was mad.
He was mocking her.
"I know that you are not going to go back on your words, but you don't look ok. Come talk to me about this when you finally recover," Grace advised.
"Alright," Gary was expressionless and his tone was calm as he replied, "I'll make sure I'll recover."
"By the way, Gary, you've seen your classmate. Why don't you say hello to her?" It was only until then that Grace realized that the two of them had yet to say a word to each other. What was going on?
The atmosphere was strange. The two of them had clearly seen each other, but none of them were willing to say anything. This was too weird.
Grace studied Celeste and saw that her face was pale and her lips were pursed. She looked like she was embarrassed.
Seeing that Celeste and Gary did not talk to each other, Grace's intuition was telling her that they probably got into a huge fight.
After all, their reactions were abnormal.
After the reminder, Celeste came back to her senses and she looked at the screen. Their eyes met once again.
She took a deep breath and mustered up her courage. With a stiff smile, she asked, "Hey, Gary, how are you?"
She tried her best to pretend as if nothing had happened. She didn't want Grace to find out, but she forgot that her voice was trembling. It was painfully obvious. Grace secretly narrowed her eyes. She shot a look at Celeste, and then at Gary.
Gary seemed unresponsive towards Celeste's words. He just stared at the girl and said slowly, "Long time no see, Celeste."
"Yes, I haven't seen you in a long time," Celeste squeezed out a stiffer smile as she replied, "How are you doing?"
"What do you think?" Gary shot back.
Celeste's heart was thumping loudly. She looked at him as horror flashed in her gaze.
He didn't seem to care that Grace was just beside her.
"You have a cough," Celeste tried to say in a hurry, "It seems like it's pretty serious."
"Weren't you aware of this the last time we met?" Gary asked once again.
With just one sentence, he had exposed the fact that Celeste had known that he was sick all along. He didn't plan to give her a chance to cover things up.
It was impossible for Celeste to pretend that they had nothing to do with each other.
Celeste felt that he was doing this on purpose in front of the elders, and it was embarrassing. He made it seem like she was a liar in front of Grace.
Grace was also taken aback. It seemed that the two of them had contacted each other before.
From her son's tone, it was obvious that he was furious.
Grace blinked and wondered if they were still quarrelling.
"I thought you got better," Celeste answered softly, "You said back then that you would recover soon, but why do you sound so awful?"
Since she had been exposed, she had no other choice but to answer his question.
"What do you think?" Gary's attitude was still the same. He asked everything with the same livid expression, making Celeste a bit dumbfounded. Her eyes instantly widened as she stared at Gary.
Gary didn't even flinch. There was a hint of coldness in his eyes. Celeste couldn't help but feel a chill running down her spine.
Her face was pale and her heart had sunk.
At this very moment, Gary asked again sarcastically, "You look pretty good, don't you, Celeste?"
