True Fated Marriage (Grace and Heinz) -
Chapter 1142
Maria acted as if she was a judge who was interrogating Yvonne, looking very serious, that it made Yvonne unsure of whether she should laugh or cry.
She was pretty cooperative and answered immediately, "Nothing. I simply went to the United States for about a year."
"Hmph, your answer is so vague. What did you do over there?" Maria puffed up her cheeks and seemed unhappy with her answer.
Yvonne looked up at the child in a seemingly obscure way, but she quickly hid it and smiled in response. "I was working in the United States."
"You abandoned me just for work?" Maria was instantly enraged. "Are you for real? Must you abandon your young child for something like that? Was there nowhere else that you could work at? And you dare to identify yourself as my Mom?"
Yvonne felt another excruciating pain in her heart.
On the surface, though, Yvonne remained smiling as she gazed at her daughter gently. This was indeed her fault, as she had rushed everything through.
"Weren't you the one who said you loved having a Daddy more?" Yvonne smiled and said, "I sent you to his place. So, shouldn't you be thanking me instead? Why are you still so unhappy about it?"
"I never said that I wouldn't want my Mommy anymore after having a Daddy." Maria wasn't pleased with how Yvonne had rebuked what she said. So, she threw a fit and said, "You were the one who made me lose you after I was able to have a Daddy, making me choose between the both of you. Yvonne Attwood, have you ever considered how cruel you are? Why must you always let me grow up in a single family? Why am I so unlucky to be born as your daughter?"
Yvonne's heart tightened while the smile on her face became even more gentle as she said, "My child, thank you so much for wanting to be with me. If that's the case, then why are you still being so angry? Stop being pretentious and come over to hug Mommy then."
There was a stark difference between Yvonne's enthusiasm and Maria's apathy.
She instantly dampened Yvonne's hope. "Don't be so enthusiastic. I hate the way you're smiling now. That was my intention a year ago, but now I just want my Daddy. So, feel free to stay wherever you wish to."
Yvonne's heart felt like it had been stabbed again.
She felt extremely uncomfortable, but she still forced herself to smile.
"Really? Then, why are you still here to look for me?"
"My Daddy asked me to come here." Maria said, "My Dad didn't say anything else apart from asking me to come over."
"Where's your Daddy?" Yvonne looked over to the door subconsciously.
Could Zachary be downstairs instead?
"Stop looking, no matter how much you widen your eyes, he won't appear now either." Maria immediately pointed out.
Yvonne was suspicious. "Then, did your Daddy just send you over on your own without confirming whether I was at home?"
Yvonne felt a bit scared after thinking about it. She thought of how careless Zachary was to leave such a young child on her own outside.
"Didn't you leave me in the kindergarten back then before running away on your own? You weren't even sure if my Daddy would have accepted me before you abandoned me like that, and then you disappeared without a trace. Comparatively, my Daddy is so much better than you, as he sent me here personally." As Maria spoke, her eyes slowly reddened. Thus, it made her look extremely pitiful. She wanted to cry, but she held back her tears.
All of this made her look even more pitiful.
Yvonne's heart trembled. As she looked at Maria, her heart tightened and she clasped her hands together.
When she left Maria in the kindergarten, she was certain that Zachary would definitely take the child away, especially considering how she was Zachary's child.
Even if a DNA test were to be conducted, it would simply serve as a confirmation that Zachary and Maria were related. So, she wasn't afraid of any investigations. Moreover, she wasn't in a rush to leave the country back then, not to mention how she had people looking after her to ensure that Zachary would pick her up. She only left the country after ensuring everything would be well taken care of. Nevertheless, she didn't want to explain any of that.
Her child had already confirmed she was intent on abandoning her, and her behavior back then had certainly confirmed her suspicions.
There was nothing Yvonne could say about it.
Maria frowned slightly.
"You have nothing else to say, right?"
Yvonne's gentle gaze fell on her face once again. In a gentle voice, she said, "Everything you criticized about me is correct. So, I understand that you're very unhappy with me. Now, can you tell me if you're going back tonight after coming here?"
She didn't dare to ask her to stay, as she felt that she had no right to do so.
Therefore, she had to be extra careful while dealing with Maria.
"Of course I'm going home. Otherwise, did you think I was going to stay here and accompany you? I'm simply here to take a look at you, and since you don't seem to be living well, I'm feeling much better. This is your punishment for abandoning me back then."
Maria responded harshly to express her anger.
Yvonne still remained smiling.
Maria looked at her for a while and found that no matter how she criticized and accused her Mommy, Yvonne never got angry in return. This made her feel surprised and confused.
After a while, Maria asked, "How long do you plan to stay here after coming back?"
"I'm not leaving anymore." Yvonne said in a firm and serious manner, "I'm planning to stay here from now onwards."
From the moment Maria entered the door until now, she had asked the same question twice, which showed that she was extremely concerned about this matter.
Therefore, Yvonne wanted Maria to understand clearly that she wasn't going to leave anymore.
She also knew that if this were to happen more than three times in a row, then their relationship would be beyond redemption and nothing good would ever come out of it again. Hence, she had to stay and fight for her happiness, even if she might not achieve it in the end.
This was her final chance.
She didn't want to miss it.
She didn't want to be so lonely anymore.
Even if she had to break the promise she made back then, she wanted to remain thick-skinned and stay here with Zachary.
She didn't want to miss it again.
Maria took a good look at Yvonne for a while. Suddenly, she jumped down from the couch and walked towards the door. What was wrong with her?
Why did she turn around and leave without saying anything, just like her Daddy?
Yvonne felt terrified.
"You, where are you going?" Yvonne followed her quickly and chased up to her.
Yvonne said, "Of course I'm going home. Wasn't that the house you left for me? It's my house, along with my Daddy and grandmother.
Upon hearing that, Yvonne was almost choked to death.
She was so good at shooting her down.
She looked at Maria and asked, "Is your Dad downstairs?
Her behavior made it clear that Zachary was certainly downstairs. Otherwise, she wouldn't leave just like that.
Maria rolled her eyes. "Of course, my Daddy is not like you at all. He wouldn't have allowed me to come here without making sure that I would be safe. He sent me to the door personally just now." Yvonne felt very embarrassed and uncomfortable with what Maria said.
She followed Maria closely behind, as she didn't want to end up losing her.
After Maria came out, Yvonne quickly locked up the door.
The mother and daughter duo went downstairs together.
Yvonne saw Zachary's car parked there. As soon as he spotted Maria, he instantly stepped out of the car. His figure looked so tall and upright against the night sky, which served as his backdrop.
