Trio of Mates
Chapter 62

Devin:

Xander collapses on the bed beside me. I roll into him, wrapping him in my arms. We are both sweat-slick and breathing heavily, but happy. At least for this moment.

As our breathing quiets, Xander voices what is at the forefront of both of our minds. “She’s coming today.”

I close my eyes, trying to tamp down my anxiety for our mate. “I know…”

“I wonder what she’s like.”

“Perfect. Like you.” I lean over and k!ss his cheek as he chuckles.

“Guess we’ll find out soon enough,” he says, his face becoming serious.

“Hey, Xan?” I cup his cheek and turn his face to mine. “What’s going on in the handsome head of yours?”

“I’m just scared for her, Dev.” Tears fill his eyes, threatening to spill. “They’re going to beat the shit out of her.” His tears fall and my heart breaks. I wrap my arms around Xander, pulling him into my chest. Xander folds into me and begins to sob. His shoulders shake and I feel myself crumble. Tears slide down my cheeks as I try to comfort my mate. How do you comfort your love when they are just voicing what you are feeling?

I make soothing noises in his ear, telling him how much I love him and that everything will turn out alright. Soon enough, he quiets down, but he clings to my arms.

I sniff and clear my throat before starting again. “The Goddess promised us that she will be ok. She has to go through this or she won’t accept us…”

“I’d rather spare her the pain and have her reject us than this,” he says fiercely, but I can feel his longing for her.

Even though I agreed with him, I knew that neither of us would be able to live without our third. Though the matebond between Xander and I was amazing and he filled so much that was missing in my soul, I’d begun to feel where he didn’t fill everything. After seeing Brandon, Zak, and Charlie together, I saw what we were missing. I don’t know that I would be able to live without her. I knew that Xander felt the same way. We needed our third mate. It just svcked balls that this was how it had to happen.

“I know, Xander. I know,” I breathe into his ear. “I want her to be okay as well. But Mother Selene stated that she will be safe. She will be back in two days. We’ll be waiting for her at the boundary.”

“Will you hate me if I try to convince her to stay instead of going with them?”

I pull back and look into his face. His eyes are red, his face pale from his crying. “I could never hate you.” I k!ss his cheeks, his eyes, and his lips. Leaning into his face, I put my forehead to his. “If she’ll listen to us, we can try to make her stay. Maybe we can win her another way. Lucille said that we would all have to reject each other for the bond to end and we will never reject her. There will always be hope for us.”

“You’d really do that?”

“Of course. I already love her as much as you do. I don’t want anything to hurt her.”

“Thank you.” He sniffs and pulls me into a k!ss. Though we start slow, the k!ss quickly becomes more passionate as our bodies mold to each other. We are busy for the next 20 minutes. I hurriedly shower and run to our room to change. Then I head down the path to gather Lucille and Meredith. Let the fireworks begin!

Charlie:

By 12:45 everyone but Devin, Lucille, and Meredith are in the dining hall. Everyone is tense, waiting for the inevitable blow-up. This is going to be bad. Really, really bad.

“You’re going to end up hurting your l*p, Red,” Brandon says, sliding his thumb along my l*p to pull it from between my teeth. He bends down and gives me a quick peck on the lips.

“I’m just…”

“Nervous?”

“Yeah,”

“Me, too. But we’re going to get through this. I’m more worried about Dev and Xander than anything.” After leaving the banquet hall this morning, and f*****g like crazy, Zak and I told Brandon everything about the Goddess’s visit. He knows everything and why we kept it from him. I have to say, he’s taking it a lot better than I thought. Afterglow might have been helping with that, though.

I look over to Xander standing beside Zak. The anxiety is rolling off of him in waves. I almost want to link Devin and tell him to come calm his mate. That I would take care of getting Lucille and Meredith here.

But we have a plan, not just for Mathias, but for the sake of Devin, Xander, and their mate. At least they’ll be able to see her for a bit before she has to go. Of course, where she is going is to get her as-s beat. F**k! This svcks! As much as the Goddess has blessed us, she has also handed us a big bag of shit.

I pull Brandon into a quick hug, k!ssing him on the cheek. He smiles down at me, love and worry filling his eyes. I squeeze his hand and pull him with me to Xander and Zak.

I step in front of Xander and bring him into a hug, pulling his head into my chest and holding him tightly. At first, he stiffens, but then he melts into my embrace. His breathing quickens, but he doesn’t cry. He just lets me hold him. I don’t let go until he pulls away.

“Thanks, Charlie. I needed that.” Xander gives me a strained smile.

Babe, Brandon and I understand why you are hugging Xander right now, but you might want to let go. We are barely holding ourselves back from yanking you out of his arms. Zak links to me.

Whoops! Matebond is alive and kicking and the possessiveness is going to last a while, considering that there are two alphas and a beta in this one. I step away from Xander and towards my mates. My bad, boys.

Want me to take you into the bathroom and show you how much of a “boy” I am? Brandon growls through my mind. Instantly, my core tightens and my panties become drenched. I see that Brandon’s words have also affected Zak as his head snaps to Brandon’s and his breathing hitches. Brandon’s eyes have bled to a brilliant blue and a smirk glides across his face.

Xander, whom I had completely forgotten was there, scents the air and gives us all a mocking smile. “Do you guys need a room?”

Just as I’m about to nod in the affirmative, the four of us receive a mindlink from the border patrol.

Alpha, the warrior’s voice is tight. None of us like having possibly hostile wolves enter our pack and Mathias’s reputation is widely known throughout our pack. The Blue Crescent Pack has arrived. Two cars with their alpha and delta, as well as two drivers and four warriors. Escorts are in the front and back of their caravan and wolves are following their progress through the territory as requested.

Thanks, Jax. Make sure that everyone keeps a close eye on all of the perimeters and be prepared for our visitors to make a quick exit within the next hour. Zak replies, his body taut with nerves. I immediately link Devin while Brandon and Xander fill in the rest of the wolves in the dining hall. Orders are sent to the entire pack to be on the alert for a possible attack and Clara and mom head to take the elderly, young, and pregnant women to the safe houses. Cub Scouts, baby. Always prepared.

Yes, Alpha. Jax links back before cutting the link.

Ready or not, here they come.
