The Wannabe Warrior
Chapter 154

Zane POV

It has been a very hard time. For all of us, reading all those files and seeing those photos had made it hard for me to keep positive, no matter how hard I tried, I had to apologise to Jonathon a few more times during the day. When I said something that triggered him and he went into a rage, and dad had to calm him back down, we desperately needed news from Madison, though I had no idea how she could contact us, I was not even sure if she could still mind-link. I hoped she could. Jonathon had assured us that she would not be affected by wolfbane, and that was the main way to keep her from being able to contact us, but with it being three days gone now, I thought maybe they had given her something that blocked our mind-linking.

Then the best news ever, came, when Gerome called us to the monitor room, as Madison was online, and to get there quickly.

We ran to the room, racing each other to get there first. Luckily, we were only a few doors away and got there quickly and eager to hear her voice.

Hearing Madison’s voice was full of mixed emotions. First was relief to hear her so calm and well, then angry because I knew where she was, and lastly, frustration because I could not reach out and take her in my arms. But best of all, it would raise the moral of all of us, knowing she was alive and sounding well. I was also pleased we could tell her we were working on reaching her and we knew where she was, well sort of, we knew approximately where she was.

‘I love you Madison, and miss you so much.’ I said after Jonathon had left the room.

‘I love you too, Zane, we will be together again soon.’ Madison replied and my chest swelled hearing her say those words.

‘Ezekiel, are you still there?’ Madison asked with an excited voice.

‘Yes, what is it, Madison? You have an idea?’ he asked hope in his voice.

‘I don’t remember much about the trip here. I know it was over a lot of very rough road, from my window I can see a large river which is frozen over, and to the left of it, is some very large mountains, surely a mountain that high, must have some caves.’ Madison started and immediately I got the idea of where she was headed with this suggestion.

‘I will get hold of Alex and visit him. I can look at his diorama of his packs and see if we can figure out where you are and if they have a pack nearby.’ Ezekiel added as he picked up with the same thoughts.

‘They said I was out for three days, and Besty agrees with that amount of time, but according to the paperwork, I saw the doctor filling out on me. I had been in the hospital for only two days, so I had to be up to one day’s drive north from the Dark River Pack, no more, it could not be more.’ Madison had a lot more information than I expected for someone who had been unconscious for so long and still had her observation, skills which are amazing and showed why we called her a war leader.

‘Good job Madison,. I will get onto that as fast as I can. I am sure Alex would be as interested in finding out where you are as we are. He has been in contact with us every day, wondering if we have any news yet.’ Dad replied.

‘Thank you, they have me locked in a room on the second floor, the windows are bolted closed and they keep the door locked, but there is a cover in the closet. It will be a tight squeeze, but I think I can get into the cavity. Just let me know when to go hide. That way they will have to work to get me to me.’

‘Great, if you can reach and see what is up there, but don’t put yourself at risk, they could have a camera on you.’ Dad said cautiously.

‘Yes, I have thought of that. That is why I have climbed into bed and pretended to be asleep, so if they are watching, they won’t see that I am talking to you, hopefully.’ Madison is amazing. She rarely misses anything. If there is just a hint of something, she will find it and act on it.

‘Catch you later, got to go speak with Alex before it gets too late at night.’ Dad left the room, leaving just me and Gerome.

‘Sweet heart, would you like to talk with me by our link and have some us time?’ I asked hopefully.

‘I would like that. I could do with some good company, something odd is going on and I need something to hold onto while I wait for help to arrive.’

‘Okay, I will head up to our bedroom and link up with you.’ I left the monitoring room and as I left, I heard Gerome start to have a talk with her. Maybe he has some ideas about keeping us in the loop without having to risk her life, calling like now.
