The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 22

~Maxton-

I just froze. I couldn't be a proper alpha when I heard my brother was dead. But Aubrey is right. We have to get Blake out of here and take care of Jerald. And we need to do it now.

Devin dragged us to the packhouse. He was able to talk some sense into Kaden and I. He just lost Aubrey again. She gave herself up for Blake. Then a warlock appeared. Not sure how, because they were supposed to be wiped out over a hundred years ago. But one appeared and did something to Aubrey. Kaden felt their mate bond snap like it never existed. I've never heard of that happening, but it happened. Even the mark on Kaden's neck is gone.

We get inside the packhouse as our warriors keep Jerald's pack away from us. We get the doors closed and look around. I've never been here before, but my mom always described it as plain looking. All white and clean, like no one lived here. It definitely doesn't look like that now. It's dark and everything is black and forest green.

"Ivan said Blake was in the basement. I'm going to go get him." I say to Kaden and Devin.

"I'll go look for Jerald. I'm the one he wants." Kaden replies and I nod.

"I'll go with you. He might have guards with him." Devin says to Kaden. We all agree and go our separate ways. As Kaden and Devin go up the stairs, I look to my right and see a heavy looking metal door. If that doesn't go to the basement, then that's just plain creepy.

I walk over to it and unlatch the sliding locks. I pull open the door and let my eyes adjust to the darkness. It's so dim in here. I take out my phone and shine the flashlight so I can see better. It's a small narrow hallway. I start to walk down it and come to the top of a set of stairs. I slowly walk down them, unsure if there are guards down here or not.

When I get to the bottom, there's another long hallway lit by small dim lanterns. I turn my phone off and go down the hall. As I walk, some cells come into veiw. I look in the first ones and they're empty. I move to the next ones and they're empty too. I hear shuffling around and move to the next cell. It's dark, but I can make out where Blake is sitting next to Rhett's body. He has his back to me and I hear him sniffling. I walk up to the bars and grab them, making them rattle. Blake flinches and shakes his head.

"If you're here to kill me, just get it over with. Don't make me suffer like you did him." Blake says, thinking I'm someone else. He's been through so much. My baby brother. He'll never be the same after this. I look around the hallway and see a set of keys hanging on the wall. I grab them and go back to the cell door to open it. I manage to get the key in the lock and I swing the door open.

"At least say something, dipshit. You're just being weird by sneaking up on me without talking." Blake says. I move behind him and kneel down, placing my hand on his shoulder. He flinches away from me, before turning to look at me. "Don't touch....Maxy?" Blake's eyes light up with relief, or disbelief, I'm not sure. But he jumps into my arms, almost knocking me over. I grab onto him, holding him close.

"I'm here. Don't worry, Blake, I got you." I whisper to him. His body starts shaking as he sobs into my shoulder.

"They killed Rhett. They gave him...too much wolfsbane and he never woke up. I didn't even... get to say goodbye. He just stopped breathing." Blake says through his crying. I stroke his hair, just letting him cry. I look down at Rhett. His body is pale and lifeless. I feel my own tears start to fall. I wish it didn't have to be like this. Rhett was only 13. He had his whole life ahead of him. He won't get to experience any of the joys that come with growing up, like getting your wolf and finding your mate. I don't even know who that's going to work for Blake now. Rhett and Blake would've shared a mate because they're twins. Now what will happen?

"Blake, we have to get you home now. We'll bring Rhett's body and give him a proper goodbye." I say, moving so that I can look him in the eyes. Blake wipes his face.

"Can mom do anything?" He asks quietly. I shake my head.

"You know mom can only heal someone who is injured or dying. She can't bring people back who are already dead." I tell him. Blake nods.

"Can she at least make it so that he doesn't smell anymore?" Blake asks and I can't help the laugh that leaves me.

"Yes, she can probably do that." I reply.

"Even when dead, he stinks up the room." Blake says, scrunching up his nose. I laugh again, pulling Blake tightly to me.

"I'm glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor. Are you okay, though? Any injuries?" | say, pulling back again to look him over.

"I did scrape up my arm when we first got here. I think they just threw us in the cells. But it's almost healed completely now." Blake says, showing me his arm. He's right, it's only minor scabbing now left over. Werewolves heal pretty quickly, but Blake doesn't have his wolf yet. If that cut happened to me, it would've been gone by the end of the day. But Blake still heals faster than a human. A human would still have an open wound.

"Alright, let's get going. You can walk right?" I ask. Blake stands up.

"Yes, I can walk. I almost killed that Hudson guy through the bars earlier." He tells me. I look at him, intrigued.

"Yes, I can walk. I almost killed that Hudson guy through the bars earlier." He tells me. I look at him, intrigued.

"And how'd you do that?" I ask.

"He underestimated how strong wolves are. He thought I was a weak little kid. And I was pissed. They were taking Aubrey. I only let him go because the old guy held a gun to Aubrey's head and told me to let him go. Then he almost turned the gun on me when Aubrey refused to put on the silver cuffs. Did you find her, by the way?" Blake asks me. I look down.

"We saw her. Ivan and Hudson had her. They did offer to give her back. In exchange for you." I tell him. Blake's eyes go wide.

"Me? Why?" Blake questions, but then he scoffs and shakes his head. "He's a s*x trafficker. He'd propably sell me to some pedophile and get a good laugh about it since he's still pissed about our mom and dads ruining his 'business"." Blake says. Damn, he knows more than I thought he

did.

"Wait, he knows who you are?" I ask. Blake nods.

"I was mad and let it slip. Called him all these names and blamed him for mom's nightmares. I was just upset about Rhett and they were here to take Aubrey. And that Jerald jackass was here yesterday and told us he was going to kill us all to prove a point to the pack or something. Rhett was still alive when he said that. Aubrey was begging him to get him help, but he just said he didn't care if Rhett died." Blake explains to me.

"Alright, well we will figure this out. Kaden and Devin went to go find Jerald. We will go out to the vans with Rhett." I tell him and he nods. I pick up Rhett's limp body and look down at his face. I hold back the tears prickling at the back of my eyes. I need to keep it together. For Blake.

We set out for the stairs when we hear loud crashing and yelling coming from upstairs. Crap.

That can't be good.

~Devin~

After Max left to find Blake, Kaden and I went up the stairs. Kaden said he will probably be in an office of some sort.

We get to the floor alpha offices usually are on and start checking all the doors. I turn a corner and see a door with a plauque on it.

"Kaden, over here." I call to him quietly. We haven't seen anyone inside the packhouse yet, which is weird. It's not normal for the house to be empty. Usually there's warriors everywhere.

So we've been quiet.

Kaden walks over to where I am and I point to the door. Kaden nods and we head toward it. When we get to the door, we listen for voices. Usually offices and bedrooms are soundproof, but this packhouse is rundown.

When we hear nothing, Kaden reaches for the doornob and throws the door open. We look inside and see someone sitting at the desk, facing away from us. You can't really see them, but the chair is moving slightly. Kaden moves in first and I follow.

"It's over Jerald. Surrender and call off your pack." Kaden says sternly. The chair moves and we see the person sitting is not Jerald. It's a woman.

"Welcome home, son." The woman says. What the hell? I look at Kaden and he looks just as

confused as me.

"Uh, are you Tonya?" I ask. The woman smiles.

"Yes, I am. I'm sorry to have done all this running around on you, but those twins that took you

in couldn't know they failed at killing me. I used Jerald as a diverstion. He agreed because he's my brother and we want to same thing. He has no actual authority here, though." Tonya says to us. I look back at Kaden. His eyes are wide as he stares at his mother.

"But, you died." I state. Tonya shakes her head.

"They left me for dead. But I survived."

You b***h. You did all of this?" Kaden says.

"Well, I need ed to get you back here somehow. I didn't become your father's mate just for you

to become the beta of another pack. You were born to be alpha. And that's what you will be. The girl is gone, your future Luna awaits you and you will take over as soon as you turn 20. We will train you and we can forget all about the disgusting pack that raised you." Tonya says with a look of disgust on her face. Kaden clenches his hands in anger.

"They raised me because they're good people. They're my family. From what I heard, you were barely a mother to me in the two months you had me. Always passing me off to the maids, the kitchen staff. You even passed me off the Mercury, not even knowing if she'd hurt me or not. You had no idea who she was. She was a stranger in your pack and a powerful caster. She could've killed me if she wanted to! But you didn't care. You just wanted an heir to take over a pack that shouldn't even exist." Kaden says.

"Kaden, dear. This is all what's best for you. You need to see that. It's your birthright to take over this pack." Tonya says.

"No one will be taking over the pack. There won't be a pack once I'm done here." Kaden says.

He makes a move for Tonya and she yells for help. Just then, Jerald appears beside me and moves to grab me. I dodge him and take out his knees and he falls like a sack of bricks. "Dev, I need to deal with her. You need to deal with Jerald." Kaden says to me as he has Tonya

by the throat. My eyes go wide.

"Me?! He's twice my size!" I shout.

"Tyson can take him." Kaden says, giving me a knowing look.

"Yes, let me out!" Tyson yells in my head. I nod and take off my shirt before shifting. Jerald and

Tonya gasp as Tyson's large form takes over my body. I haven't let him out in so long. He's been frusterated that I haven't let him mate with Kai's wolf, Hendrix, yet. I'll admit, I've been a bit selfish, wanting Kai all to myself for the past week. Tyson's been itching to get out. All this pent up frusteration is not going to be good for Jerald. Tyson is already a ruthless fighter. But now, he's just flat out deadly.

I don't even look back at Kaden as I lunge for Jersad as he tries to scramble to get away. He

gets to the door frame, usuing it to help him stand. I grab his arm using my mouth and start to drag him down the hall as he's wailing in pain, telling me to let go. I can tell he's trying to shift, but he's in too much pain right now.

I drag him to the top of the stairs and throw Jerald all they way down. I watch as his body flies

and bounces off each step he hits, groaning in pain. He crashes into a table at the bottom of the stais, knocking over a large glass vase. It falls to the ground, shattering. Jerald lies there, still breathing, but he can't move. I hop down the steps, my wolf happy to be fighting, even tho this is a very one-sided fight. We walk up to Jerald. I look down and he's shaking, scared. I smile in my head. Good, a*****e, be afriad. You hurt my mate, and for that, you pay.

I place my paw on Jerald chest, slowly crushing him. He cries out in pain before I clamp my jaw down over his head, ripping it off. Blood sprays me and starts pouring out all over the floor from the body. I spit out his head and step back. I shift back, panting. I kneel down to catch my

breath.

"Devin?" I hear a voice from the front doors call me. I look to see and it's Kai.

"Kai?" I'm shocked. What the hell is he doing here? He was supoosed to be in the hospital.

Kai rushes over to me, taking my face into his hands and kissing me hard. I grab onto him, trying to steady myself. When he finally pulls way, I'm left dazed and breathless. "Baby, that was so hot. I've been waiting to see your wolf in action." Kai says to me, placing his

forehead on mine. I smile for a second before I snap back to reality. I stand up and look down to where Kai still sits.

"What the hell are you doing here? You were supposed to be resting in bed at the hospital. How did you get here?" I ask angrily. Kai blushes a bit.

"I overheard some warriors talking about coming here. They said there was probably going to

be a huge fight and that Alpha Max was leading it. Obviously you'd be going to since you're Max's gamma. I couldn't sit there, twiddling my thumbs, knowing you're going to be in battle. I snuck out of the hospital and into one of the vans." Kai explains to me. I look down at him.

"I'm so mad at you right now. You are not supposed to be fighting. You're healing." I say, but

then I shake my head. "But you called Tyson hot, so I can't be too mad." I say, pouting. Kai smiles at me. He stands and pulls me in for a hug.

"By the way, you're naked. I love to see you like this, but I don't want others staring at what's mine." Kai says, possessively before taking off his shirt and pulling it over my head. The shirt falls to the middle of my thighs, covering up all my parts. This will be fine till I find pants.

Just then, a large metal door opens and Max walks through, followed by Blake. Max is holding Rhett's lifeless body in his arms. I rush over to them. "s**t. He really is gone." I whisper, tears forming in my eyes.

"Yeah, he is." Max chokes out. He looks over my shoulder at where Jerald's body is. "We heard

crashing. Was that Jerald?" He asks.

I glance back at what Tyson did. "Uh, yeah. Tyson went a bit overboard. He was pissed about

Kai getting hurt." I say, letting out a breathy laugh.

"So it's over? Jerald's dead. Where's Kaden?" Max asks. I shake my head.

"Jerald was apparently never in charge. Tonya is still alive." I tell him. Max looks at me,

shocked.

"Kaden's birth mother, Tonya?" He asks and I nod.

Just then, someone clears their throat. We all turn to look at where it came from. Kaden stands

a few steps up from the bottom of the stairs. He has Tonya by the throat still. "Let's go outside and end this. The rogue pack needs to know it's over." Kaden says. I look at

Max and he nods. I take Rhett from Max and hand him to Kai, asking him to keep him safe

while we deal with this.

"Let's end this. For our family." Max says to Blake. Blake looks around at all of us.

"And then we can go get Aubrey?" Blake asks. Kaden smiles at him.

"Of course we will go get her. But let's make them pay for what they did to Rhett first." Kaden

says. His eyes are glossy as he looks over at Rhett in Kai's arms. Blake nods and we all move to go outside. We will finally be done with this damn pack.
