The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 20

~Kaden-

After lunch, Max mind-linked me to come to Arthur's office. Apparently, the scouts brought back information. I head down to the office and walk in without knocking.

"Ah, Kaden. Good, you're here. Devin just got here too." Max says. He's in an unusually good mood. Wonder what that's about. "The scouts went to the old rogue packhouse and it's still abandoned, but they decided to check out where the Half Moon pack used to be, and turns out, that's where Jerald and Black Creek are. We confirmed it with Ned's drones. So, I'm putting together a rescue party. My dads are letting me run it. My mom is an absolute wreck right now. She has this feeling that one of the twins is severely hurt or possibly dead. My dads want to stay behind to be with her. We'll be leaving as soon as we get everything together." Max says to us. I look over at Devin and he just shrugs.

"Okay, what's going on with you?" I ask.

"What do you mean?" Max asks.

"You just told us Mercury thinks one of the twins might be dead and you're in a super good mood. What's with that?" I ask. Max looks away from us.

"I'm just happy we know where they are." Max says.

"Don't lie to us, Max. We know when you're full of shit." Devin says. Max looks down and sighs.

"I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to upset you guys." Max says quietly.

"I don't like this, Max. What happened?" I ask.

"Did you trade Kaden for the twins?" Devin asks suddenly. I look at him, dumbfounded. Max whips around.

"What?! No! No, I'd never do that! Is that what you thought?" Max asks, looking a bit hurt.

"No, but you're being weird about it and said we'd be upset, so it's the first thing that came to my mind." Devin says, leaning back on the couch. Max sighs again, looking down at the ground.

"It's not that. It's good news but...it's just bad timing for good news that isn't about the rescue, y'know?" Max rubs the back of his neck, nervously. "I guess I'll just say it. Do you guys remember Ava from school?"

"Jack's niece? Yeah, she's our age." Devin says.

"She was nice. She sat with us in class or at lunch after you left." I say.

"She did? I didn't know that." Max says.

"It was only for like a month before Elliot pulled us out to be homeschooled." I tell him. "So, what about her?"

"She came in here earlier today. She brought up some late breakfast for us. When she came in the room, I found out she's my second chance mate." Max tells us.

Holy s**t. Max found his second chance mate?

"Why would we be upset about that?" Devin asks.

"Because Aubrey is gone and Kai is still in the hospital. I didn't think it'd be appropriate to announce I found my mate when your mates aren't doing great right now. Thought it'd make me an a*****e." Max says.

"We are happy for you, Max. Ava's great." Devin says. Max nods and turns to me. I smile.

"How'd it feel this time?" I ask. Max smiles back.

"It felt right. Ava's the right one." Max says.

"That's all I needed to know." I say and walk over to him, pulling him in for a hug. "Congrats, man. You found your Luna."

Devin stands up and comes over to us, wrapping us both in a hug. "Group hug!" Devin calls out. Max and I laugh before we all pull away.

"Okay, so you found where Aubrey and the twins are. That's great. Is there anything else we need to know?" Devin asks.

"There actually is one odd thing I've been thinking about. Why hasn't Jerald contacted us about getting them back? Wouldn't he be holding them for ransom?" Max asks.

"Unless they're bait and Jerald has no intention of keeping them alive." Devin says. I look at him.

"You think he'd do that?" I ask.

"Yeah, the guy's crazy. Of course he'd do that. Plus, what happened last night." Devin points out. Max looks at us confused.

"What happened last night?" He asks. I sigh.

"Last night, I was lying in bed wide awake cause I couldn't sleep. I was just there when, all of a sudden, I got this overwhelming feeling of emotions. And it didn't feel like my emotions. I knew it was Aubrey feeling like that. I have no idea what happened obviously, but I just know it wasn't good. At first, it was worry. I feel like the worry was for the twins. Mercury does have this feeling one of them is hurt, so it checks out. Aubrey is a nurse and she knows a lot of things, but if she's actually worried, so am I. But then, the fear..." I trail off for a moment before continuing. "Someone must have told her something because it started small but got increasingly heavy in my chest as time went on. Something scared her so badly, I could feel it like I was right there with her. Then the panic set in, but it was very brief. Almost like she pulled herself together for the sake of the twins. They were probably panicking too, so she had to be the calm one." I explain to him. Max looks horrified.

"So, you think someone, possibly Jerald, told her their plans for her or the twins? Like what they plan on doing with them?" Max asks.

"That's the most logical reason for all those emotions. Worry because one of them is hurt, fear because Jerald is going to kill them, and then panic because who wouldn't panic if you're about to face death?" Devin states. Max nods.

"Okay. Let's get a move on then. We got s**t to do." Max gathers up his stuff and starts mind- linking orders to the warriors. Devin turns to me, putting his hand on my shoulder.

"Let's go save Aubrey and the twins." He says. I nod and we follow Max out of the office.

~Unknown~

I've been watching them for awhile. Ivan sent me to scout out Red River pack's movements. This is still all new to us. Werewolves? Come on, this st is made from fairy tales. I didn't believe it until that Jerald guy had a bunch of his warriors shift in front of us. Craziest thing I've seen in my entire life, and I've seen some st, working for a human trafficking ring.

I didn't want to be involved with this werewolf feud they have going on, but when I saw the picture of the girl we had to kidnap, I couldn't resist. She's so beautiful, so pure. I'm sure by now that Kaden kid Jerald is after has already ruined her, but that doesn't matter. I want her for myself, not to sell. I told Ivan I'd only do it if he promised I could have her. He knows he needs me, I'm the best right hand he has, so he agreed. He'd talk to Jerald about giving her to me. I'd even pay for her if that's what he wants. Although, I'm not sure werewolves care about human currency. I have no clue how they live, so they might have their own form of money. Who knows. All I know is that I want Aubrey.

When we caught her, she was so scared. I could see the fear on her face even after she was knocked out. I wish those mutts hadn't hit her so hard, but once they handed her to me, it was game over. I didn't want to let her go. I need her. But Jerald said she needs to be locked up until Kaden comes. Something about a bond that will lead him to where she is. If she's not at the house they're staying at, he will know and follow her.

Jerald told the girl she will be killed today, but that's simply not true. He found someone to do some voodoo crap on her to erase this so called bond without killing her. I still don't understand this bond, but if he needs to do it so that I can have her and Kaden will stay away,

then so be it.

I'm sitting up in a tree, watching the so called packhouse when I see a bunch of vans pull up in front of it. People start filing into them and I see the three guys Ivan told me to watch for. The leader, Max, the second in command and the one Jerald wants, Kaden, and the runt, Devin, the one who was upset by that big guy getting hurt. They must be gay or something.

The three of them get into the front van and they start to take off. I radio to Ivan. They must be on their way to save what was taken from them. Oh, naive little boys. You have no idea what you're about to find.
