The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 6

~Maxton-

The week flies by after Devin's birthday and today is the day of Austen's alpha naming ceremony. It will take a few hours to get to Silver Lake pack, so we left this morning to make it there just before it starts. We will be staying the night there as well. Just makes sense.

It's almost 2 pm. The ceremony starts at 5 pm. We are almost at Silver Lake, so we decide to stop for lunch in the small town nearby. I park the car and we find a small cafe. Kaden heads in first to get us a table outside. It's really nice outside, so we might as well take advantage of it.

While we are waiting, Devin starts acting weird. He's looking around the area, almost like he's looking for something.

"Dev, are you okay?" I ask. Devin looks at me with a weird look on his face.

"Do you smell that?" he says. I shake my head.

"No. What do you mean?" I ask.

"I smell something really good..." Devin trails off, looking away. He starts walking away, catching me off guard.

"Hey, wait. Dev!" I call after him. "s**t!" I run after him, mind-linking Kaden to follow us. Devin disappears behind a corner and I follow, almost smacking right into Devin's back.

"Dev, what the hell?" I say, but stop when I see who he's looking at. Kaden catches up with us and I stop him before he says anything.

~Devin~

I'm standing outside the cafe when I start to smell something amazing. It's earthy, like how the forest smells after the rain. I look around to see where it's coming from.

"Dev, are you okay?" Max asks me. I look at him.

"Do you smell that?" I ask. He shakes my head.

"No. What do you mean?" Max asks me.

"I smell something really good..." I say as I turn away from Max. The smell is getting stronger. Before I even realize what I'm doing, I start walking towards the smell.

"Hey, wait. Dev!" Max calls after me, but I'm not listening to him. I turn the corner of the building and lock eyes with the most gorgeous man I've ever seen in my life. He has dark blonde hair with forest green eyes, he has muscles on top of his muscles and he stands almost half a foot taller than me, almost as tall as Max and Kaden. There are other people with him, but I don't even notice them. This Greek god of a man stares at me like I do him and Tyson is just about losing it in my head right now.

"Mate." I breathe out.

"Mate." The man says back to me. Just then, Max comes up behind me, almost running into me.

"Dev, what the hell?" Max says. I hear Kaden run up too and the two of them are whispering behind me. The blonde man narrows his eyes at Max and Kaden before walking over to me. He grabs me, pulling me into him. The sparks that erupt all over my body where he is touching is like nothing I ever could've imagined. It feels like tiny firecrackers dancing on my skin and I never want him to let go. I grip his shirt and inhale his scent.

"Mine." He growls at Max and Kaden. Kaden looks away but Max is a trained alpha. He doesn't like to be challenged, so he puffs his chest a little. He has such a big ego.

"Kai, enough. That is Alpha Maxton from Red River you're talking to. Show him the same respect you show me." The man that was with him says. My mates name is Kai. The name fits him. The other man walks over to us and holds his hand out to Max.

The week flies by after Devin's birthday and today is the day of Austen's alpha naming ceremony. It will take a few hours to get to Silver Lake pack, so we left this morning to make it there just before it starts. We will be staying the night there as well. Just makes sense.

"So sorry about him, Maxton. My head warrior can forget his manners sometimes. Obviously, finding his mate is one of those times." The man says. Max takes his hand for a handshake. "It's not a problem, Austen. But head warrior, huh? Hate to see you lose such a valuable pack member." Max says. This is Alpha Austen? I've never seen him before.

"Lose my head warrior? Don't tell me your guy outranks mine. I like Kai." Austen smiles at Max.

"Seems as though Kai has been mated with my gamma." Max says.

"Damn. Well, the moon goddess knows what she's doing." Austen says. They continue talking as I look up at Kai. The closer I am, the more I just want to hold on and never let him go. His face is so pretty, so serious.

"Come with me." Kai says quietly. I nod and he takes my hand as we walk away. I quickly mind- link Kaden, telling him to tell Max I'll be back.

We walk a short distance away from everyone else and turn a corner into an alleyway. Before I can even blink, my back is pressed up against the wall. Kai holds my arms in place and his face is only inches from mine. I suck in a breathe.

"Who are they to you?" Kai asks me. At first, I'm confused, but then I realise he means Max and Kaden.

"Max and Kaden are my friends. We're like brothers. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about from them." I say.

"I don't like the way they look at you. They look at you like you need protecting, like you're weak." Kai says. I can't tell if he's angry about the possibility of me being weak or that I have two guys looking out for me who aren't him.

"That's because, compared to them, technically, I am weaker. They're both of alpha blood. And they've always looked out for me, being the runt of the three of us." I say, looking down.

"My wolf, Hendrix, tell me you're strong. He says your wolf told him you think of yourself as the weakest link when you're not." Kai says. I look back up into his eyes. He's looking at me with so much sincerity, I think I could cry. No one has ever told me I'm strong. They've said Tyson is strong, ruthless and an amazing fighter, but not me. I take a deep breath and close my eyes to hold back the tears.

"Don't look away from me. You haven't even told me your name." Kai says. I open my eyes and look into his. He's so close to me.

"Devin. My name is Devin." I say quietly.

"Devin." Kai looks down at my lips. "You're perfect and I can't wait to show you just how much you mean to me." Kai says as he leans down and grabs my thighs, lifting me like I weight nothing and wrapping my legs around him. He presses me against the wall and captures my mouth with his. I feel like my soul has just left my body and is now floating around somewhere else, watching this perfect moment. I've only known him five minutes, but I don't want anyone else but him. He's made me feel more like a person than anyone else back at the pack who isn't family. I feel the tears stream down my face as Kai's hand roam my body, the sparks moving with them.

Kai pulls away and we catch our breath. I let my head fall back against the brick. Just then Kaden's voice comes through the mind-link.

"You done yet? We need to get lunch quickly before going to the pack." Kaden asks. I smile and

shake my head.

"Be right there." I say back and cut the link. I look at Kai.

"Kaden is telling me it's time to go to the pack." I say to him. Kai doesn't look happy. He puts

his face to my neck where my marking spot is and licks me. My eyes roll back from the pleasure the washes over me and a small moan escapes. Kai grips my thighs harder, obviously liking the effect he has on me.

"I'm a very possessive person. I don't share things that are mine. And you are mine. Tell me I don't have to worry about Alpha Maxton and this Kaden guy wanting what's mine." Kai whispers

in my ear.

"I promise. The three of us were raised like brothers together. Kaden and Max are actual family, blood related and everything. I got along with them because of mine and Kaden's shared history of our parents. Max was the golden child of the pack, the alpha son. He didn't let anyone give Kaden and I crap." I say. Kai looks at me confused. I sigh and give him a very brief explanation about why the pack never really liked Kaden and I. He nods along as I'm telling him and when I'm finished, he kisses me again.

"Sounds like your parents helped save the pack. Not sure why they hate you, but I promise you,

I will make up for all the years no one showed you any love." Kai says, putting me down on my feet. I smile as he takes my hand and we head back to the group.

As we get closer, I notice Austen isn't there anymore and it's just Kaden, Max and someone else. Kaden looks in our direction and smiles.

"Well, I hope you cleaned yourself up. Doing it in an alley. Nasty." Kaden says jokingly. I laugh

and shake my head.

"Shut up. You're just grouchy from your mating experience." I say.

"Hey. That was a low blow. I'd hardly call two minutes an experience." Kaden rolls his eyes. Kai

looks at me questioningly.

"Oh, Kaden rejected his mate." I say.

"She rejected me first. She wanted to sleep with my brother." Kaden says, nudging Max.

"Damn. Sorry about that." Kai says to Kaden.

"Don't worry about it. She was an a*s to me the whole two minutes we were mates. Then, after

I accepted the rejection, got mad I didn't tell her I'm the beta. She just wanted a ranked title,

didn't matter how she got it. Screw her." Kaden says.

"Better off without her. Maybe you'll meet someone while we're here." I say to him.

"Doubt it. You have a better chance of finding Max his mate tomorrow. Just don't tell any of the girls at the ceremony. They'll be pounding down his door at the crack of dawn to see if they are his mate." Kaden laughs and Max huffs.

"Seriously. Don't tell anyone. I'll have enough to deal with when we get back home. Don't need

it from here too. Now let's go get food and leave. We're going to be late." Max says. I nod and say goodbye to Kai. Austen went into the store we were standing outside of the pick up his tux for the ceremony, so Kai went in to join them. I followed Max and Kaden, missing Kai already. We get our food ordered and drive the last ten minutes to Silver Lake pack.
