The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate
Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 4

-Maxton-

I feel horrible about bringing Jaclyn to the pack. I can't believe she did that to Kaden. I'd be crushed if my mate chose my brother over me. I can't even imagine how he must feel right now. But I guess it's for the best. At least Kaden can move on now like mom said yesterday.

I'm just coming into the dining hall when I notice Kaden and Devin aren't sitting at the table with the ranked members. What are they doing? I walk over and place my hands on their shoulders.

"Boys, what are you doing?" I ask.

"Sitting. What, they didn't teach you breakfast etiquette at the fancy alpha school?" Devin smirks and I grip his shoulder harder. "s**t, ow ow! Okay, I'm sorry! Mercy!" Devin cries out trying to pry my hand off him.

"It wasn't school, it was more like boot camp. What I meant is why, as my future beta and gamma, are you not sitting at the table for ranked members?" I ask.

"Uh, we never have before. We just assumed we would when we actually have those titles." Kaden says.

"You do titles. My future beta and gammas. My parents accept it and so do the other ranked members. You are welcome at the table. Now get you s**t, let's go." I say, walking over to the head table. My parents are just sitting down as I head over. My mom smiles at me before turning to my little brothers, telling them to quiet down. They're so loud sometimes. I chuckle to myself.

I pull out my chair. Kaden and Devin take the two empty ones next to me. Devin looks around to see if anyone objects to them being here, but everyone is too busy to even notice they've sat down with us. I look down at my plate and see an envelope addressed to me on it.

"What's this?" I ask. My dads look at me and then at the letter.

"Not sure. Our mail is usually sent to our office. Since you don't have an office yet, the omegas probably thought to just leave it for you here. I don't know what it could be though." My father, Elliot says. I nod and open the letter.

"It's an invitation. Alpha Duncan of Silver Lake pack is retiring and his son, Austen, is taking over. His alpha ceremony is next weekend." I say, reading the card.

"Ah, I forgot Austen turns 20 this month. About time, Duncan took forever to have kids." my father, Arthur says.

"Duncan is only in his mid-50s." My mom scolds them.

"That's pretty old for an alpha, love. Most retire in their early 40s, which is still older." Elliot says.

"Well, I didn't know that." Mom snaps back.

"That's okay, kitten. We forgive you." Arthur says to her. My mom glares at him then smirks.

"So, that means you guys are getting old." she says. Both of my fathers' eyes go wide. "We're not old, love." Elliot says.

"You just said early 40s is old. You guys will be 41 when Maxy takes over. A couple of old men." My mom mocks them, smiling.

"We're not old, kitten. If you want, we can show you later just how young we are." Arthur says, winking at my mom. Blake and Rhett start making gagging noises and I join.

"Gross, we don't need to hear about it!" I say loudly. My mom laughs.

"When you find your mate, you'll be the same way, Maxy." she says. I make a face and shake my head. I turn back to Kaden and Devin.

"So, you guys are going to come with me, right?" I say, handing the invitation to Devin.

"What?" Devin says.

"To the alpha ceremony?" Kaden asks.

"Yeah, obviously." I say.

"Uh, I guess so. If you want us to." Kaden says.

"Great. I'll let them know we'll be there." I say.

"This is the weekend of your birthday, Max." Devin says, looking at the card.

"Is it?" My mom asks.

"Yeah, my birthday is the day after the ceremony." I say.

"Oh, I was going to do a party to celebrate." My mom says.

"It's okay mom. You only throw 18th birthday parties to find your mate. I'll be somewhere where there will be ten to fifteen other packs attending. It'll be fine." I say.

"If you're okay with it, then okay." Mom says. I nod and turn to eat my breakfast.

When I get to my room after a long day, I flop down on my bed. It was my first full day back and it's been...a lot. I still feel bad for Kaden. I can tell he's upset about what happened with Jaclyn. I don't think he's sad about losing her because he accepted the rejection. I think it's more that he's never been accepted by anyone other than family in this pack and his mate was no different. She rejected him without even thinking about it because she thought there was something better out there. I just hope this doesn't ruin mates for him. I want him to be happy with someone. I hope he has a second chance mate out there somewhere. And if he doesn't, I hope he finds someone he can be happy with.

I hear a small knock on my door. I look at the clock. It's after 10pm. Who would be here this late? I get up and walk over to the door. It isn't my parents. My dads would've just mind-linked me. And the guys would've just walked in cause they're rude and have no boundaries. I chuckle and shake my head. I get to the door and open it.

“Hello Alpha. How are you tonight?" a girl named Jade stands there at my door. Kaden and Devin told me about her. She went to school with us as kids. She became the pack slut while I was gone. She's been cozied up to Colin and Kody for years. Of course Jade try to do the same to me, knowing I'll be alpha in just two years.

"Hello, Jade. Can I help you with something?" I ask.

"Well, I was actually thinking I could help you with something." Jade smiles and leans towards me, grabbing the front of my shirt. I look down at her hand, pull it off of me, then back up at

her.

"If you're looking for s*x, you came to the wrong room. I'm not interested in sleeping with someone who will sleep with anyone for a ranked title. Already had to deal with a girl like that. If you're that desperate, go find Colin or Kody. Heard they're quite familiar with you." I say. Jade's eyes go wide as her mouth falls open. I turn to close my door, but stop before it's fully shut. "Oh, and just so you're aware. Colin and Kody will not be my beta and gamma. In case that's the only reason you seek their company, thought I'd clear that up." I shut the door fully and walk back to my bed. Today has been a lot. I just want to sleep now.

The next few days go by quickly. I get up early to go to training with the rest of the warriors. The whole pack knows I'm back now. Mom wanted to throw a party to celebrate my return, but I told her not to. It's not that big of a deal. She pouted for a day, but she's fine now.

"Weke the f**k up! Why ere you still esleep?" Keden shekes me eweke.

"Because there's no training so I wanted to sleep in. What time is it?" I ask.

"It's 8:30am. You can't sleep in today. We need to do something for Devin." Kaden says. I look at

him.

"What do you mean? What does Devin need?" I ask.

"Are you serious? Do you really not remember?" Kaden looks at me with a shocked face. "You haven't been gone that long, dude. It's Devin's birthday today."

I sit up quickly. "Holy f**k! How did I forget that? It's literally a week before mine. What the hell?" I say, shaking my head. I feel so bad. How could I forget his birthday?

"Yup. That's today. The little preemie is finally 18." Kaden says, smirking. He knows what he's doing. Devin was supposed to be younger than me. My mom was four months pregnant when Devin's mom, Paige, found out she was also pregnant. When my mom was ready to pop at nine months, Paige was about six months pregnant and had a medical emergency. Something happened to Devin in the womb, making him come early. He was so little, my mom said he could fit in the palm of his dad's hand. A week later, my mom went into labour and I was born. I was supposed to be at least three months older than Devin, but now I'm the youngest out of all of us by a week. It's infuriating and Kaden knows it.

"How does it feel to be a child while Devin and I are offically adults?" Kaden asks me. I take my pillow and smack him across the head with it, making Kaden laugh.

"I may be younger, but I can kick both of your asses with one arm tied behind my back." I say. Kaden rolls his eyes.

"Ouch. Someone's got a fragil ego." Kaden mocks me, smirking.

"f**k off. What are we going to do for Devin?" I ask him, changing the subject. Kaden sighs.

"No clue. We couls take him into town for the day, spoil the kid and maybe he can find his mate." Kaden suggests. I nod.

"That sounds good. We can take him for lunch and crap. Maybe let him pick something out." I

say.

"He's really into tech stuff. He's spent a lot of time with Ned doing computer nerd stuff." Kaden

tells me.

"I didn't know that. I fell like you guys changed so much while I was gone." I say.

"We did. It's called puberty." Kaden jokes and I hit him with the pillow again. "Not what I meant, dipshit. I meant you guys grew into yourselves more. You guys found stuff

you like to do without me around. Makes me think we just did whatever I wanted as kids." I say.

"That's cause we did do whatever you wanted. And Devin and I were okay with that cause you were alpha and you protected us from bullies. We went along with whatever you wanted

because we respected you." Kaden tells me.

"Respected? As in past tense?" I joke. But Kaden smirks.

"Yeah. Not so much anymore. Now you got a big head and a fragil ego."

"Would you quit it with my ego? My ego is fine! it's not fragil!" I say loudly. "Spoken like someone with a bruised ego." Kaden nods, making a simpithetic face. I huff

loudly.

"Kaden." I say.

"Maxy."

I narrow my eyes at him. "Let's just go. The birthday boy is probably waiting for us." I say. Kaden stands up and heads for the door.

"Don't doddle. We'll be waiting." Kaden says in a fake high voice as he leaves my room. When

the door shuts, I laugh and shake my head. Goddess, Kaden and Devin can be so annoying at times. But damn, being back shows me just how much I missed having my brothers around.
