ALPHA KING JOSH'S POV

"I can't wait here anymore! I have to cross now, find her, and bring her back!"

I complained to my wolf beast who had been stopping me from storming to Silver Moon pack to search Alpha Richard's house for Rose.

She has been missing for over twelve hours- or should I say the last time I saw her was over twelve hours ago?

I was worried sick yet Mac kept me from losing my shit as he had been saying, "She didn't leave the pack yet."

Max repeated himself, right after I complained to him, "You know what will happen if you go to Alpha Richard's pack and you don't find her there? You will create unnecessary scenes and soil your name in the territory. She is still here. Believe me and keep searching."

"If she is still here, why haven't I found her? I know my pack territory by heart, Max yet I haven't seen her nor perceive her scent anywhere."

I gritted and added, "Is there something you aren't telling me? If she is in the pack, why haven't I found her since noon? Even after I asked Adam to help me cover the perimeters of the pack, he still didn't see her."

I was forgetting the fact that I was the Alpha King. I just wanted to race over to wherever Rose was and apologize to her for what I did to drive her this far away from me.

"Perhaps you should let Adam connect to your mind. You might get a good answer this time."

Max etched, referring to how I had ignored Adam's attempts to reach me for the past hour.

"I am tired of hearing him say the same thing. It's almost 1 am and I still haven't gotten a whiff of Rose. Goddess knows Adam does give a shit about her or about how I feel right now."

I lamented. "I have to find her now and Alpha Richard's pack is the only place I know she can be that I haven't checked."

"You know you will feel it whenever anyone passes the borders, Josh. Stop stressing and hear Adam out for the last time." Max motivated me but I didn't feel motivated. Rose could have found a way to leave the pack without getting sensed by me.

If she could hide her scent and presence when she is still within my pack, I wouldn't underestimate her strength or abilities.

But I listened to Max by allowing Adam to reach me through the mind link.

"Any news, Adam?"

I questioned my Beta even though he was the one that has been trying to reach me in the past hour.

Adam replied immediately, "I swear, My King. I was about to inject the wolf with silver that will make her shift forcefully. If you haven't spoken to me when you did, I would have taken that step-"

"What the fuck are you talking about, Adam and why do you sound like your worst fears are happening before your eyes?"

I tried not to make this about me but to be honest, I wasn't interested in whatever was causing Adam to panic. I just need to ask about Rose so I would decide what step to take next.

But Adam grabbed my attention when he voiced, "I told you there was a spy in the pack. I think I have caught her but she was in her wolf form when I caught her and she refused to shift. For some reason, I felt like Adam was missing something. I asked him, "A spy? A female spy in her wolf form? Where did you find her?"

"I caught her snooping around your house, My King." Adam Chimed in my mind. "What if she is working with some other wolves that have breached our security? What if they took Rose?"

My widened but still, something felt missing. I mean, I would have felt it f anyone entered the pack with or without my permission. Saying that someone breached the security to kidnap Rose was an absurd claim.

Why would anyone do that?

"Maybe Alpha Richard had realized that she is here and alive. Perhaps he wants her dead and have come to get her under your nose."

Max shared his assumptions with me and I lost it completely. My blood began to boil even though I haven't confirmed anything. I could feel my heart clenching and unclenching as imagined Alpha Richard getting his hands on Rose again... when I could have saved her.

"Should u begin the investigation? Perhaps we might find out whether Rose is a victim like she had made you believe or if she is a snake-"

"Don't even complete that sentence, Adam, and don't begin the investigation until I get home. I will meet you there."

I stopped my Beta from accusing Rose again. I honestly wouldn't be able to hold back any emotion Adam ignite within me. I wouldn't want to fight my Beta because of a woman that wasn't officially mine. "Actually, I have moved the wolf from your home to the interrogating cell in the prison."

Adam announced curtly into my mind.

"What? So fast? Why are you so paranoid, Adam!"

I yelled at my Beta as I began to zoom through the pack. I was about twenty minutes from the prison but with Rose's life on the line, I would most definitely make it to the prison in eight minutes.

"In my defense, I have been trying to reach you since I captured this suspect two hours ago. You have blocked me out and also question my sense of duty. I had to do what I could while you were absent." Adam defended himself.

Max backed him up, "He has a point. You have been a bitch to everyone since you woke up this morning."

I sighed as I raced to the prison. Minutes later, I was standing in front of the pack prison. From outside, the prison appeared small with just a few blocks but in the real sense, the prisoner was the biggest in the realm. Not because I had many criminals in my territory but I just felt like building something big enough to hold many criminals yet make it look small to the world.... That was how I came up with the idea of my underground prison. Small on the outside but gigantic below and on the inside.

"My King."

Adam greeted me when he saw me enter the Prison holding room. His face was unusually cold and I knew what this was about but again, I ignored him and walked past him to see the wolf he told me about, however, Adam stepped forward, saying; "She is unconscious because I injected her with a small dose of wolf and-"

Adam began to give me a brief report but I interrupted his attempt when I pointed to the familiar top and short lying on one of the desks in the holding room.

I haven't checked the cells to see the wolf but seeing the top and short that Rose had worn this morning for training, I lost the last bit of hope within me.

"Why is the training wear here?" I stuttered, trembling visibly.

Adam replied, "I found the clothes with the wolf-" At that moment, it occurred to Adam too and he gasped, "Did she kill Rose already? I saw traces of blood under the wolf's paw.

"Are you an idiot?" I exclaimed. "Show me the wolf now, Adam!"

My Beta didn't realize the reason I was yelling until after I inhaled the scent of the white wolf that lay lifelessly on the cold floor of the holding cell.

I choked on my breath as I recognized her immediately. Adam stared at me with confusion etched on his face as I slowly unlocked the cell.

"What have you done, Adam?"

I whimpered.

Confusingly, My Beta answered, "I just captured a suspect, My King."

"That's not a suspect, Adam and she was not snooping around the house. She stays in that house with you and I, Adam!" I revealed.

Yet my Beta seemed lost. I had to spell it to him, "This is Rose, Adam. you must have captured her when she was returning home from wherever she went.."

Adam's eyes widened and he covered his mouth with his palms. He immediately understood his mistake and since I already laid a claim on Rose before him, he knew that I could flip and rip his head off right now.

But my muscles were too weak for that right now. I said simply, "Run as fast as you can to the Healers and get Tamira or preferably Judy to the mansion in three minutes, Adam..."

Adam knew betterer than to argue even though all he injected her was Wolfbane... I just needed someone to tell me Rose would be fine and conscious soon.

While Adam went to get the healer, I lifted Rose's wolf into my arms, carrying her home.

Can today never happen again?...

It was an insane day that I might never recover from.

"Where do we go from here?" Max asked me. He was clearly not asking about my destination. My wolf beast meant, "Where do we go with Rose from here"... Where will this charade lead us...

"I wouldn't know."
