Chapter 12

ROSE'S POV

If "drained and dying slowly" was a person, it wouldn't be me, not because I was not drained and slowly losing my mind in a locked dark room but because those words were an understatement. The word drained couldn't capture the excruciating thirst that I have been enduring. It's been three days yet no one came to help me or check on me.

I had no water to drink.

The phrase "dying slowly" couldn't capture my experience in the room. With no food, little to no oxygen, zero drops of water and energy, or was only a matter of time before I passed out. I was hungry. Thirst. Tried. And breathless.

"I need food to replenish myself, Rose. I can't keep up anymore."

Cali informed me. She has been sharing her strength with me for the past two days and I wasn't surprised that she was exhausted too.

I would be an idiot to not regret my life and the actions that led to my current situation. I shouldn't have provoked Alpha Richard. It was my fault for dreaming.

After three days of being locked up and getting tortured emotionally, it was only natural that I gave up on my desire to escape. Perhaps dying was the only way to escape the alliance.

Perhaps joining my mom in the bosom of the moon goddess was the way out...

I thought about dying but Cali announced with hope, "Someone's coming."

Despite Cali's hopefulness, I couldn't bring myself to get excited. If anyone was coming it would be Irene or her son and none of those two cared about me. I was too weak to perceive who was approaching but I was able to hear the footsteps. The door opened for the first time in three days and I forced myself to look up. However, the person in the room with me introduced herself before I could see her face.

"If that isn't my beautiful stepsister."

Melissa mocked me.

My face scrunched, "What are you doing here?" Although I was weak, I couldn't let Melissa see me at my lowest. She had always been jealous of the life she believed I had. She thought I was living in roses. She thought my life was way better than hers which caused a subtle hatred between us.

"You think I want to come here?" Melissa spat, crouching to look down at me. "Alpha Richard told Dad about your crazy demands and Dad sent me here to persuade you." Of course. My Father couldn't care less about me. He wanted to persuade me again.

"Didn't he sign off the pack lands to Alpha Richard? Why does he need me to stay with a man that treats me like shit!"

I groaned, sitting up and staring at my stepsister like the bitch she was.

"Don't say that about Alpha Richard, Rose. He has been a good son to Dad and a good brother to me. He created a comfortable atmosphere for us to live in, didn't he?" Melissa uttered with mockery etched in her throat. She wasn't here to persuade me but she came here to mock me and make her fantasies about Alpha Richard a reality. "Leave me alone, Melissa, and tell Dad that I am done."

I said with a tone of finality, hoping that Melissa would vanish and my life would end.

"Don't be mean to me, Rose!" Melissa voiced hypocritically, "I am on your side. Can't you see that? Alpha Richard is no good for you. Make sure you break the alliance and be a free wolf-" Before I could call her out on her lie, Alpha Richard entered the room and barked, "What the f**k are you saying to her!"

Melissa's face changed immediately. I scrunch my nose when I perceived Melissa's desire which made me realize she was into Alpha Richard. She liked him.

Or like always, she desired to have what she thought was mine.

"It's reverse psychology, Alpha Richard. We both know my sister is stubborn and she can also be crazy."

Melissa voiced like a slut, ogling Alpha Richard. To be honest, they were what anyone would call a perfect match.

Alpha Richard sighed, "If only your sister was as sensible as you are."

Melissa stared at Alpha Richard greedily, licking her lips, "My sister is undeserving of the most worthy Alpha of the Northern Territory."

"At least you can see that." Alpha Richard nodded. He was already losing interest in chatting with Melissa. "You can wait for me in the living room. I have something to say to your sister." Melissa didn't understand that Alpha Richard wasn't interested in her as she glared at me before facing him again with a wise smile on her malicious face. "I will be waiting, Alpha Richard." Pathetic!

But again, they were a perfect match.

When the door closed behind Melissa, Alpha Richard crouched and stretched his hand to me. That was shocking.

He helped me up and backed me against a wall.

"You really want to end the alliance, don't you?"

He queried but I assumed it was a rhetorical question and I ignored him. Actions were louder than words. He should be smart enough to understand my stance by now.

"Understood." Alpha Richard paused, "I can agree and we can break the alliance that binds us. However, after you failed to seal the deal with the Alpha King, how can I let you off easily?"

He wasn't sorry for locking me up. He was sorry for starving me and torturing me by denying me basic necessities like water.

He was here to make another demand.

Cali's anger made me grit furiously, "What do you want?"

Hasn't he taken enough from me? What else does he want? My life?

Alpha Richard pondered for a moment before saying, "I want just one thing, Rose. I need to make headways and build my reputation beyond the Northern Territory. I don't want to be a local champion. I need to be known all over the realm and after studying the five Alpha Kings, I have found the one that can make me well-known and also the one that would be used as my stepping stone." "What do you mean, Alpha Richard? You have to be clear."

I refused to let him trick me again.

"Don't you think I am befitting to be the Alpha King? Someone like Josh should have trashed just like his brothers have been doing. My focus is none of your business. I just need you to become my loyal spy, Rose."

Alpha Richard clarified and my eyes widened.

"Spy on Alpha King Josh and help me find his weakness. Then I will break the alliance and leave your pack members." Alpha Richard added.

I exclaimed, "Do you know what the law says about spies? I will be hanged if he finds out and I don't have the skills to carry out your demands."

But he countered, "All you need is your pretty face and pitiful appearance, Rose. You don't want to take the risk for your freedom? Will you risk your life or should I slay every one of your pack members and behead your gullible father?" Another threat.

"Become my spy. And don't think you can tell the Alpha King about this. You won't believe the force behind me and I wouldn't hesitate to kill you and your family if you decide to take that path." Alpha Richard smirked, "Alpha King Josh won't be able to save you." "He didn't come to make a deal, Rose. He just wanted to send you off to death."

Cali pointed out but wasn't I interested in dying too?

Alpha King Josh might be a buttwipe but dying in his hands wouldn't be a bad idea. It was better than giving Alpha Richard the satisfaction of seeing me break.

Irene would also be out of the picture.

"If I become your loyal spy and find the Alpha King's weakness, you will agree to break the alliance bond between us and you will sign off my pack lands to me. You will also leave my people alone and provide for them while I help you achieve your dreams?" I spelled out, adding my terms too and

Alpha Richard nodded.

"Do all that and I will let you go. Perhaps you will find your destined maye after I annul the bond between us."

Alpha Richard voiced. The alliance bond had taken me off the market. Even if I walk past my destined mate, I wouldn't know because another man has claimed me.

"Then I would like to sign a written agreement and perform a blood oath, Alpha Richard."

I informed him and he smiled, saying I was acting smart with him. I have to be smart or else I would do everything and still not gain my freedom. Alpha Richard was cunny. "Alright." He agreed too fast, creating suspicion within me. "I also want a blood oath. That will assure me that you will never betray me." True.

Breaking a blood oath would result in painful mystical death.

Hopefully, I won't have to be on the less favored side of the oath. It didn't occur to me that Alpha Richard might be sending me into a trap.

I moved on the oath and drafted the new alliance between us.

"Why are you checking it over and over? You drafted it, didn't you?"

Alpha Richard complained after he took me to another room and gave me a pen to sign the contract. I took my time because something didn't feel right about the plan.

However, after checking repeatedly, I signed the paper and Alpha Richard signed too. I was about to become a spy for the man that ruined my life in the last three years. I was about to start ruining the man that showed me the path of pleasure. I couldn't be sorry for Alpha King Josh. After all, I was an item of sexual pleasure to him too.

"When and how do I penetrate the Alpha King's defense?"

I asked with determination.

"You will have to begin immediately after you open your eyes, Rose. Do all you can to brainwash the Alpha King and to keep me out of trouble." Alpha Richard responded.

Confusingly, I asked, "Will I be subdued?"

"Just make sure you don't return until the mission is complete. Further instructions will be passed to you soon."

Alpha Richard muttered with a devilish smile. Before I could ask him more questions, a hard punch was delivered to my face, knocking me off my feet. "What the fuck!" Cali yelled but she couldn't save me from getting kicked repeatedly by the man I just made a peace pact with.

Alpha Richard hit me until I lost consciousness. Perhaps he kept hitting me even after I lost consciousness. I wouldn't know that.

But I heard him say, "Be a good spy, Rose."

He broke me. He broke my ribs and bones. He shattered my life and all I could do was ask myself, "What is he doing?" What next?

I wouldn't know... I was unconscious after all.

Or perhaps, I died.

I wouldn't know.
