The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn -
Chapter 84
George's long eyes were indifferent and calm as usual. He nodded and said, "Okay. I'll let James know when I see him."
Cora did not dare to urge him to make the phone call right away. She was already quite satisfied that he had given his word to help her, so Cora immediately smiled and said softly," Thank you, Mr. Laine. Please work at ease. I'll be leaving now." George nodded lightly and continued to look at the document in his hand.
Cora left the president's office and immediately called Holly back, telling her that she had told George about the incident and he had agreed to persuade James for Catalina.
Holly was very excited and thanked her repeatedly. "You truly are our savior, Cora. I really have to thank you! As long as Cat's able to come out safely, your Uncle Jeremiah and I will remember your kindness for the rest of our lives." "We're family, after all. You can't say that or it'll seem like we're strangers. Well, I still have work, so I'll be hanging up now!" Cora hung up the phone politely, but there was a sarcastic and arrogant arc on the corner of her mouth. $he stepped on her high heels and walked into her office.
Holly thought that with Cora's help, this matter would breeze over quickly. However, even after waiting for a day, two days, and three days... Catalina was still locked up in the police station.
In a blink of an eye, a week had passed by. When Holly went to the station to visit Catalina, her entire appearance had changed drastically. Her eyes were sunken, her face was pale, and the look in her eyes was filled with fear. Catalina was no longer as arrogant as before. "I want to get out of here, Mommy! I don't want to stay here anymore! "Save me, Mom!"
Holly was so heartbroken that she called Cora again and again. However, Cora no longer answered her phone calls.
Once she got home, Holly started chewing Cora out again and again. As it was a Saturday, Suzy stayed back at the Laine family's residence at noon for lunchtime.
It just so happened that the kitchen made tomato soup again today. It was the sweet kind that Suzy liked very much, and she drank the entire thing in one go.
George glanced at her lips that were moistened by the soup. He said in a low voice, "If you like it, I'll ask the kitchen to pack some up for you to take home." This could prevent her from making that half cooked and scorched-tasting instant noodles that would be an insult to herself.
"Huh?" Suzy was astonished and immediately shook her head. "Thank you, but there's no need."
It was already beyond the norm for her to stay back for lunch. How could she get takeaway from here as well?
"It's just soup. Take it." George snorted.
Then, he asked the servant to pack the tomato soup into a thermos for Suzy to bring home later
Suzy did not say anything else and just smiled. She thanked the two of them.
Her phone suddenly started ringing, and she walked to the side to answer it. It was Cooper, begging Suzy to save his sister. Although Cooper was angry at how dumb Catalina was, seeing Holly crying all the time was still making him distressed and anxious.
When all was said and done, she was still his sister. Cooper did not know who else to ask for help from, so he could only call Suzy again.
Suzy did not promise him that she could help. She merely comforted Cooper and hung up the phone. When she got back to the dining table, Ean asked, "Was that Cooper Shirley?" The three of them often teamed up to play games together, and they could cooperate tacitly. They already had a comradeship.
Suzy said, "Yeah. Something happened to his sister."
Ean nodded and replied, "It's no wonder he hasn't been online for a few days."
George listened to their conversation and raised his head to ask, "Are you talking about Jeremiah Shirley's daughter?"
Suzy nodded. "Yeah. Do you know about this matter as well?" George said lightly, "Just a little."
Cora had asked him for help before, but James was abroad, so George did not take the matter to heart. Moreover, it was a busy week at the office, so he almost forgot about it. He raised his eyebrows and looked at Suzy. "Do you have a good relationship with Cooper?" Suzy's eyes flickered slightly, and she said in a calm tone, "Quite. He's a rather sensible kid."
Although Cooper was young, he was one of the few in the Shirley family who was clear headed. At the very least, before Catalina even got herself into trouble, he was keenly aware that Brooks was scamming them. George lowered his head to drink the soup and asked casually, "Do you need my help?"
