Suzy turned around and walked out of the flower vines, went through the gate, and returned to the backyard. It was late at night, and the whole yard was quiet. Only the lanterns under the corridor were gently swayed by the wind. Suzy looked back at the closed wooden door behind her. Instead of returning to the guest. room, she walked toward the front yard.

The light was still on in Josiah's room, so Suzy knocked on the door lightly. She soon heard a loud voice coming from inside, "Come in!" Suzy pushed in the door and smiled. "You're not asleep, Grandpa?" Josiah was leaning on the reclining chair, listening to the music. Then, he sat up and turned off the gramophone before glancing at her and saying angrily, "I drank too much tea, so I'm not sleepy!"

Suzy sighed. "So you weren't waiting for me, nor did you want to see me. I'm heading back to sleep now." She turned around and wanted to go out. Before she put her hand on the door, she heard the old man shout, "Come back this instant!" Suzy smiled and turned back around. She asked in a well-behaved manner, "The last time I video called you, you were coughing. Are you feeling better now?"

"So, you do care about me? If you hadn't come to grab that darn old bracelet for that Laine brat, you wouldn't have even thought of coming in to see me even though you had already arrived at the main gate!" Josiah snorted. Suzy took his arm over and sat down. Then, she poured him a glass of water while saying, "You know very well about the relationship between me and George right now, so it's not convenient for me to come back. I promised you that I'd come visit after I finished up my part time job."

Josiah snorted twice before saying, "What kind of relationship do you even have with that Laine brat? You're so dedicated to him, but he refuses to even give you a title. The marriage contract has been terminated, yet you're sticking to him so vaguely. What on earth are you plotting?"

Suzy was sitting on the chair, and she leaned forward. She rested her cheek on one hand, and her eyes were clear as she said, "I'm just happy to be around him. Didn't you always tell me before that the most important thing in being human was to be happy?"

"You can't call something temporary happiness. True happiness is long-term," Josiah's expression softened up as he said earnestly.

"If you truly fancy that Laine brat, I'll personally head over to the Laines and propose a marriage for you. Forget about all of your own achievements. Even being the daughter of Josiah River alone is more than enough to pair you up with a Laine!" Suzy said with a smile, "Grandpa, I haven't graduated from university yet. Aren't you

overthinking this?" "I do think plenty. When you agreed to the request of the Shirley family to marry yourself into the Laine family, what on earth were you thinking?!" Josiah appeared indignant., Suzy kmew that her grandfather had always been brooding about this matter, so she no longer refuted. She merely lowered her eyes to admit her mistake, looking extremely obedient. "Why you... You've always been like this! Devious child!" Josiah scoffed angrily. Suzy had looked pitiful when she was younger, so Josiah never had the heart to discipline her. He merely gave her everything she wanted, and when she got older, she would not refute every time he disciplined her. She would become all docile. However, she was inwardly determined to do whatever she wanted to do! "You're the one who spoiled me!" Suzy smiled and changed the subject. "Will Ira be coming back this year?"

"How should I know? I haven't been able to contact him for a month now, so who knows what forest he trekked into this time?" Josiah took a sip of tea and cleared his throat. "He made it clear to me beforehand to hand all of the family's businesses and properties to you. He doesn't care about either you or me, so we shouldn't concern ourselves with him either!"

Suzy's eyes narrowed slightly, and she became a little more stubborn. "I don't want them! I can support myself with the money I've earned, and Ira will come back sooner or later!" "I have no idea who you brats take after! Your stubbornness gives me a headache!" Josiah leaned on the back of the chair and stroked his forehead. "Luckily for me, none of you live by my side, or I would've lost ten years of my life!" Suzy chuckled and said in a clear voice, "Well, Ira got it from you, and I got it from him!" "Bah!" The old man spat angrily. "I'm not at all as worrying as you brats!"

Suzy sat beside him and rested her head on his shoulder as she said, "Just take care of yourself, Grandpa. Ira and I will take care of ourselves. Don't worry about us." This time around, Josiah no longer said anything else. He merely raised his hand and patted her head. "I'm not worried about Ira, but I'm more worried about you. That Laine brat and his father may seem modest, but they're both very shrewd and cunning. You have to be careful!" As for his darling Z, she might look calm and cool, but Josiah knew that her heart was pure and simple.
