The Rejected Life Of Mala Luca -
Chapter 41
Mala sat at her Luna’s desk, their daughter in her lap, smiled down at her, she had big blue eyes like Aston, but her black hair, she was sleeping soundly in her arms. A blessing to her and Aston, a little girl. They’d named her Chance. The pack had been a little confused.
But they were hoping she being a girl, that she would have the chance to escape Aston’s curse, and that there was a chance that so would her children down the line. Also, anyone looking for Alpha Chance, namely Carmel, to harm their child, would be looking for a boy, or so they hoped.
Aston was currently off pack territory with Simon and Dale, attending a mating ball with forty of their un-mated wolves. Charlie her Gamma would stay here to protect her along with Ben and the other elite warriors, not that she thought she needed protecting. Aston on the other hand, wouldn’t take no for an answer, it seemed. Even though she was the one to train them all and the team he’d allocated was her own.
Charlie had laughed at her efforts and said “You’ll have to get used to it, he’s always been like this.”
“I never saw it.” Mala replied.
“No, you didn’t. We all did. He’s very protective, he was like this with Roberta as well. I’ve got orders you don’t know about even.” He’d smiled right at her “So does Ben and the Elite.”
Mala had shaken her head and murmured down to her daughter, “Your daddy’s going to smother you sweetie.” Little Chance was only a month old, and Aston was always holding her. He loved his little girl with all he had and she knew it. Even Titan would hold her in human form, purr for his daughter, smooch Suki as well.
his entire Unit now also had Mates that were pregnant and due soon. they’d all waited it seem to have their own, to make sure their own heirs would be the same age or close to that of the future Alpha, to give them a good strong bonded unit. like most in other packs would.
She was sitting going through her emails when one drew her attention it read.
‘Dearest Luna,
It is with glad ears, that I hear Alpha Aston has chosen another Mate.
My name is Renata, I had the misfortune to be forced to place a curse on Alpha Aston years ago.
Ordered by his brother to do his Luna’s bidding.
I would greatly like to meet with you, to discuss the opportunity, to step inside the pack.
I will need your approval as I am a witch.
Aston will know me, when he sees me.
I will be in the area in 1 day’s time, please if you could meet me at the pack gate, around 4pm.
I would like to offer Alpha Aston a reversal of said curse.
To free you both from it.
Witch Renata’
Mala sighed, she was not going to fall for that. Hit the print button and mind-linked to both Charlie and Ben to come to her office. While she waited for them, she checked Aston’s time schedule, knew he was due back tomorrow, saw it was estimated to be at 4pm.
It was all too convenient, he wasn’t here currently, but would be right there at the time in the email. Mala saw Carmel all over this email, was trying to lure her out. Not once had she mentioned her name.
Just the rank, called her Luna, stated she’d heard he’d chosen a Mate, wanted to meet with her, when in reality she did not need to. Any witch wouldn’t need her there, just Aston himself. Yet she had written to Mala instead of Aston.
She was not so dumb, saw both Charlie and Ben walk in. “I got an email that I believe is from Carmel, I printed it for you.”
“I’ll track it Mala.” Charlie stated. All Gamma she realised “Hop up Luna.”
She did just that, got out of her chair and let him sit at her desk. Watched as Ben read the email and frowned “Why would she need to see you? And not Aston?”
“And that is how I know it’s not Renata, if that was her actual name.”
“It was,” Charlie stated from behind her desk, without looking up. “I’m glad you brought this to our attention.”
“I understand what happened to Roberta. I will not fall for this, be lured out, have been expecting something for months now.” and she had been. “Besides, if this witch did want to rescind her curse, she’d likely just stroll on into the pack uncaringly. My guess is she’s old and powerful.”
“Was already old, when she cursed Aston and his brother.” Charlie nodded. “Also, we believe she is dead, or securely locked away by Carmel and Raymond.”
“You’re not to go near the front gate, period Mala.” Ben muttered “I’ll call Aston.”
“Wait on that. Couldn’t we set a trap, Ben? We know it’s hard to see the front gate from most places. I’m presuming she had already scouted out a place to sit and aim that riffle of hers at it, at me.”
“It is likely,” Ben nodded, “She would put herself in position today, or tonight, and wait for you to show up.”
“So then we have a chance to get her.” Mala nodded.
“No you don’t, Luna.” It was Charlie “Alpha’s orders.”
She looked right at him. “I’m not afraid of her, Charlie.”
“I know that.” He nodded “But Aston to has a plan, if this ever came to light.”
“And that would be?” she asked.
“The same as what you’re thinking in all likelihood.”
“And just what do you think I am thinking?” She stared right at him.
Charlie frowned at her as he sat there. He typed away a few more minutes and then sighed “I can see, this email came from an internet café right in Sliverton, she is already here.” He stood up “Luna, you will not be involved in the hunt and capture, that is about to happen. None here will allow it.”
Mala looked right at her Gamma, “Then I want to know exactly what the plan is.”
“The plan is, I will call Aston, he will contact his brother and if she is not within her home pack and caught here, it’s a war or the full threat of one between the two packs.”
“That’s it?”
“No.” it was Ben. “There will be no waiting for an answer, a simple statement and then Aston will hang up. I believe he has someone on the inside to relay to him information when needed, someone that he trusts completely.”
“A game, so to speak. To see just what Raymond will do. Will he hunt for and protect his Luna, who got him cursed, or will he sit back and prepare for war?” Charlie informed her.
“No Alpha will sit back and let his Luna be hunted and captured to be tortured and killed.” Mala shook her head.
“Aston’s gotten information over the years, that Raymond and Carmel are not exactly all peaches and creams. Not since Roberta’s death. Raymond was under no illusions, he knew it was his Mate who did that. From Aston’s source, there was a massive falling out inside the pack. They are still together but not happy or Raymond wasn’t. He was of the opinion ‘why can’t you just let it go, you rejected him’ there was apparently a lot of yelling and separate bedrooms.”
“Not my concern really.” Mala shrugged.
“No, it’s not.” Charlie agreed “There’s been a plan for a while, and all high velocity riffle points that have a clear line of sight into the pack are known to us, and checked visually every three months. Most have been eliminated, with the planting of forest trees.”
“So, the front gate?”
“Is only one of three points that we can’t stop. It is left open, but at least we’ll know where she’ll be” Ben commented, “So you will stay here with Chance, and Charlie will stay here with you, to make sure that you do stay put. I and two other teams will scent mask ourselves and go on a hunt for Carmel.”
“Though that email, puts her in one place only, so we’ll leave now. Did you just get this?”
“Yes.”
“You can beat her up there Ben.” Charlie stated, “Take yours and Mala’s unit and go now.”
“On it.” Ben nodded to Charlie and was gone from the room.
“Show me the plan, the place she will be, and I want an earpiece.”
Charlie nodded “Let me call Aston first.”
Mala sat on the couch in her office and watched Charlie call Aston, heard a sting of obscenities come from him, and then there was silence for a long time, heard him state “Don’t let Mala take matters into her own hands.” Saw Charlie look right at her as she rolled her eyes and then held out her hand for the phone.
“Aston, I can deal with her.”
“Mala, I don’t want you too. I’ve got a plan, let Ben and the unit bring her in. If she resists, they have permission to deal with her as you would.”
“Rip her head off, you mean.”
“Correct, you did the right thing by telling Charlie and Ben.”
“I’m not stupid.” She stated, looked at Charlie “Send a copy of the email to Aston.”
Saw Charlie nod “A copy of the email is on its way now to you Aston. She is planning, from my opinion, on taking me out right in front of you, when you get home. We need to deal with her, once and for all.”
“Agreed, but don’t you do anything, Mala, just stay away from the front gate, let the men and myself handle it.”
“If that doesn’t work?” she asked and got silence for a long minute “Aston?”
“Then I’ll let you deal with her. It’ll be war Mala. I don’t want a war, you know this. They are my home pack. I have no quarrel with them, just the Luna herself.”
“Right.” She muttered and tossed the phone back at Charlie as she looked down at little Chance, one damn day was all she was going to give it. If that woman was identified and proven to be the one, Mala was going to do it her way, the way it should have been done years ago.
She stood before the pack map in Aston’s office and looked at it, walked around it and assessed the areas that would have a direct line of sight to the front gate from high up. She also had to make sure that nothing looked out of place, that everyone moved about as normal. She did not want to give that woman the upper hand. Was looking at the mountain ranges around the pack, the road that led to the gate, walked around it and assessed it, knew after a few minutes where she was likely going to be.
There were only three places with open lines of sights she’d been informed. Touched the place she thought was most likely, as Ben returned to the office, saw them both look at her and nod. She got handed an earpiece along with Charlie “We’re going now, we’ll get her Mala.” Ben told her.
“If you don’t, Ben. Suki and I will hunt regardless of what anyone here wants. She is a threat to this pack, not just to me. Will always be a threat to any Mate he takes, to any child he has.”
Saw him nod “I’ll get her Mala.” He nodded “We’ll keep you up dated.” And then he was gone. She knew that they would go in wolf form, be able to travel faster that way, had seen the pack he was carrying, it would be put on his wolf after he shifted, have all the gear he needed, clothes included.
She already couldn’t smell him, his scent was already masked, in that bag would be more of the stuff. They were all aiming to get there ahead of Carmel and ambush her. It’s what she would do.
“Don’t do anything, Mala. I know you want to, just stay put. They can handle it. This is Ben and your Unit, well trained by you, Mala. It will be 20 against 1.”
“One is what we think. But what Luna travels on her own?”
“One that doesn’t want her Mate to know what she is doing. Has already been warned that next time, it will be war between the two packs.”
“It is war, as far as I am concerned,” Mala stated simply. She was not about to let this go on, she’d not been allowed to do anything about this situation, because she had become pregnant right away. But was no longer that.
Mala knew they had not registered their heir with the council, didn’t need to, so they had not done so. Mala looked at Chance, this was not going to be her life, her daughter was not going to have to wonder all the time when her father’s ex-mate would come for her. No, that was not happening on Mala’s watch.
If Carmel got away today, Mala was going to hit that pack of hers and request a hand to hand combat duel with no proxy allowed. If that woman used long range weapons, instead of wolfen skills, it was also likely that she wasn’t a good fighter, might not even train at all. Certainly, wasn’t likely to train like Mala did or had her whole life.
A duel to the death, in hand to hand or wolf on wolf. This would be the easiest option to deal with the she-wolf, who still had an obsession with Aston. She would go and deal with her, regardless of what anyone wanted, Luna to Luna.
