The Rebel
Chapter 4

Rosie sat in embarrassment, rubbing her hands anxiously.

What she had heard about this man could in no way justify it.

King Logan

His deadly aura was so frightening that everyone bowed their heads, his gray eyes were filled with coldness and could pierce souls.

The man was handsome without a doubt, but also forbidden fruit.

From what she’d heard, he wasn’t like the others. He was even worse.

He didn’t command obedience, he lived it.

No one opposed him, or they’d end up dead, brutally killed.

But surprisingly, nobody talked about his relationship with any woman.

Not in his pack, not at the council.

Either he was an expert at covering his tracks, or he simply despised women, seeing them as a weakness.

A man of few words and the strongest member of the council.

He was a very dangerous man indeed.

“I apologize on behalf of my Beta. The means he used to negotiate were highly inappropriate,” he said and Rosie looked shocked for a second.

His mere presence here was a surprise and even now.

Had he just apologized?

With one leg placed over the other, he shouted power and respect.

His words sounded genuine, but Rosie couldn’t trust him.

Who knew what he was planning?

“Alpha Logan, you’re a powerful man in society. I know what it’s like for you to plunder a pack and enslave the innocent. No one’s accused you, so why are you apologizing? I doubt your intentions.”

He looked and just looked.

“Have I infuriated him?” wondered Rosie, staring at him.

“What you’ve heard about me isn’t right, Mademoiselle Rosie. Maybe your father never told you much about our world order. I apologized because I think I did wrong. Slavery isn’t the way I operate, or you wouldn’t be sitting across from me, asking me these questions.”

Rosie swallowed, noticing the warning in his tone.

She looked down, feeling frightened.

He was much more powerful, he could kill her and be done with it, but he was still arguing.

“Now, let’s get down to business. You already know that no one will accept your position as Alpha. You’ll be challenged, the first chance they get. And your defeat is inevitable.”

The facts, she couldn’t refute.

“So I make you a proposition. Give me your place and I’ll make sure you’re all protected. You can stay here, you won’t have to move to my pack. You need protection, which I can assure you. I need this territory. Simple.”

Rosie swallowed. Could she trust this man?

What if he betrayed like her pathetic Beta had.

No, she couldn’t accept it.

No man was trustworthy, let alone a powerful person like him?

Never!

“I’m sorry Alpha, but I don’t agree with this.”

Logan’s hand stopped. The paperweight in his palms was no longer spinning.

He wasn’t used to people disagreeing with him, especially weak women like her.

He’d been nice so far, but guess what, maybe they were having trouble figuring things out.

He sighed and stood up, done with it.

“I thought you were smart, Miss Rosie. I thought your father taught you well.”

He was touching her weak spot, taking pleasure in her reaction.

So predictable and naive.

Not at all suited to the position of an Alpha.

“Don’t bring my father into this! You refused to help us, when we needed help! How pathetic you are!”

He didn’t reply, not showing if he was offended.

His next words surprised her:

“So you decided to ask Rebel for help. If I’m not mistaken, Miss Rosie.”

She froze, how did he know?

No one had been spared, so how could he have known it was Rebel’s doing?

“Rebel is a criminal, Miss Rosie. He’s wanted by the council. Seeking help from such a person and associating with him could land you behind bars.”

“So what? At least he saved us from the beasts, not like you! Men like you disgust me, Alpha Logan! Blackmailing women to get your way, isn’t that what you’re trying to do right now?”

Logan stepped toward her, pulling her back.

Pinning her down, he smiled at her.

Admiring the girl’s bravery.

“Do you realize who you’re talking to, Miss Rosie? And blackmail, I don’t need to blackmail a weak bitch like you. I can end your poor life in a second.”

“Re… cule…,” she said, startled, and he moved closer instead.

His aura compelled her to submit to him even though she was Alpha b***d herself.

“Sign these papers and save your pack. I won’t ask you a second time,” he said, slamming a sheet of paper on her table and offering her a pen.

She felt herself suffocating.

This man was nothing like the other men she’d met.

“I… can’t,” she managed to say when Alpha Logan squinted at her.

The nerve in her forehead twitched, and her patience was wearing thin.

“Sign, damn it!” he yelled, slamming his hand down on the table, causing it to crack in two.

She shook with fear, her hands clenched in front of her.

This man could kill her at any moment, the fear of death came over her.

“I… can’t… I’m not the Alpha anymore…”

Her words silenced the Alpha Logan. His eyes changed color, from dark black to his normal gray.

His hand clenched the paper, finally breaking it.

“What do you mean?” he asked, tilting his head to the side, unable to understand.

She clarified it further.

“I renounced that title yesterday. I’m not the Alpha of the Silvermoon pack now.”

He stared at her.

“Then who is?”

Rosie was frightened. She was alone, he could kill her if she didn’t answer.

Wanting to hide from his gaze, she tried to take a step to the side when a big arm blocked her.

“I asked who the Alpha girl was!”

Before Rosie could open her mouth to reply, a voice came from behind them.

“It’s me.”

The Alpha froze.

He didn’t dare turn around.

The voice, the scent.

It was too much for him.

His beast began to rejoice in his mind and he clenched his fists.

Rosie looked at the door in shock and managed to walk past him toward the girl.

He didn’t look back.

He couldn’t.

He hated the idea that he had a companion.

The idea revolted him.

Having a girl as a weakness, protecting her all his life to protect his own sanity in return.

It was all bullshit to him.

He’d seen great, powerful men become weak, even die because of this bond.

And there was no way he was going to become like them.

If he had to have a mate to bear his children and carry on his legacy, he would.

She had to submit to him completely.

Obey his every word and take care of him and their children.

An obedient and caring companion in every respect.

But that voice? It was bold and fearless. Defiant and arrogant.

Not submissive at all, but quite the opposite.

“Turn around! Turn around!”

Her beast circled in her mind, demanding she see her mate.

To see his destiny.

But he was reluctant.

He even feared the fate this girl would hold for him and the challenges he would face because of her.

He finally dared, taking a deep breath.

The scene he saw made his heart flutter.

She was breathtaking.

Long brown hair cascaded down her back to her h**s, perfect eyebrows, a small button nose.

Perfectly tanned skin, full, luscious lips.

Perfect in every way.

Except for those eyes.

They weren’t lowered in submission; on the contrary, they were staring at him.

Defying him the very first time they saw him.

They were pools of innocence, sucking him into their depths.

And he found himself captivated by them.

When suddenly, something flashed in those brown eyes, as she realized who he was.

Which made him smile.

He remembered the last words the girl had spoken.

She was the Alpha now, the person he had to convince.

The idea suddenly seemed very interesting as he approached her.

Rosie hid behind her, while her comrade raised her head fearlessly.

“Hello, my companion.”

Her words made Vera clench her fists, her eyes changing color from brown to hazel, as she felt her wolf take hold of her.

He already knew he was going to win this negotiation, because the person standing in front of him was already his.

Her body, her soul, her everything.

Everything belonged to him, this territory was nothing compared to them.

She was entirely his, and he’d make sure she knew it.

Those defiant eyes had to bow, that high head had to bow.

But just for him.

And he’d make sure nothing bad could ever happen to her.

He would be her protector, her savior.

Her everything, if only she’d agree to be completely his.
