ELLE POV

Before I pour myself a glass of champagne, Emma, Taylor, and Charity drag me to the middle of the packed dance floor as the song “Single Ladies” by Beyonce blares through the speakers. Women are going wild throughout the club, pushing men to the side to take over the dance floor.

Even with the dozens of bodies crammed into the small space, I can feel eyes on me. I know they are watching my every move causing a feverish feeling to lick my skin and my heart to pound relentlessly in my chest. Letting the music guide my body, I throw my hands up in the air, letting my h**s move seductively, teasing all the men in the crowd, particularly those watching from above.

“Let’s go drink!” Emma screams, grabbing my wrist and dragging me through the crowd, bumping into sweaty bodies after a few more songs have played. As the girls surround me once more, we make our way back to the table where the guys are waiting with more shots; now that I am closer to my birthday and first shift, the alcohol hits differently.

“Is there anything I can get you guys?” A short, blonde human in all black asks as she comes up to me, “A card is already on file at the bar.”

“Can we get three bottles of your best 1800 Tequila,” I answer without even blinking, earning excited cheers from the rest of the group. “With mixers, limes, and salt!”

“Of course!” She responds eagerly, excited about the large tab and tip. “My name is Shannon; I’ll be back around soon.”

As my friends chat and dance in our VIP section, I notice Jonah has yet to return to our table. Where the hell could he be, and did his Beta go with them?

‘Theo, did Jonah ever come back to the table?’ I ask via the link, not wanting Jonah’s Gamma, Brad, to hear my line of questioning. Even though he is Taylor’s mate, I don’t trust him because his priority is to follow Jonah’s orders.

‘No,’ Theo replies darkly as he scans the room for any sign of the missing Alpha or his Beta.

‘Jonah is up to something,’ I reply as I scan the room looking for the man who has been watching me like a hawk stalks its prey. ‘But what?’

‘I don’t know,’ Theo replies, ‘But I want to find out.’

‘Me too,’ I tell him, just as the waitress comes back with three other waitresses bringing the bottle service to the table. After they set up the drinks and retreat to their station, Charity picks up a flyer they left on the table before rushing to sit next to me to show me what it says.

“We should do this after we leave! I have always wanted to visit a psychic!” Charity squeals in drunken excitement, being the youngest non-shifter of the group, so far away from her seventeenth birthday that the alcohol is already affecting her. Taking the flyer out of her hand to look it over, I show it to the rest of the group.

“Who wants to go see a psychic after this?” I ask the group as I pass the flyer to everyone else so they can see what I am talking about. While I don’t necessarily believe in this kind of mumbo jumbo, it’s important to Charity, and I don’t want to disappoint her.

“I’m down,” Taylor says, pulling herself away from Brad’s face for the first time since we sat down. “Ohhh, a psychic could be fun!” Emma chirps from Victor’s lap.

“It’s your birthday weekend Elle. I am down with whatever you want,” Nick says from across the table, earning a nod of agreement from Brian and Theo.

“Then it’s settled,” I say, “When we leave here, we will see this Lady Esmeralda and learn our futures!”

DAMON POV

Watching Elle dance is a type of torture I was not anticipating. I want to rip out the eyeballs of every man I catch watching her with lustful eyes. Slade is miserable watching her h**s gyrating on the dancefloor for other men to see. He has spent the last ten minutes growling, snarling, and trying to push forward so that he can kill every male in this club with his bare hands.

‘Did you find Jonah yet?’ I ask Matt through the link trying in vain to distract myself from storming below and dragging Elle back to my hotel room.

“Not yet,’ Matt quickly replies, ‘This club is a f*****g maze, and with the number of people crammed into the building, I cannot make out his scent enough to track him.’

‘Son of a b***h,’ I remark, ‘What about his Beta? Have you seen him around?’

‘Nope,’ Matt says, ‘They both have disappeared into the crowd.’

‘They chose this place for that reason, I’m guessing,’ Andrew adds to the conversation. ‘It’s the perfect way to hide behind the scents of the hundreds of other people shoved into this room.’

‘Any sign of Alpha Jonah or his Beta?’ Theo asks me, ‘Because Elle is starting to suspect something is up with him, and I can tell she wants to search for answers.’

‘Under no circumstances is that to happen, Theo,’ I growl, ‘We don’t know what Jonah’s end goal is, and I don’t want her in danger. Especially with that forty-year-old creep running around’.

‘Wait…’ Theo replies, his voice sounding a little frantic, ‘That creep is in the club? I have been keeping my eyes peeled, looking for him. So far, I have come up empty.’

‘He was standing on the balcony across from us when you guys walked into the club,’ I tell him, ‘But he left after Elle walked off the dancefloor, and I haven’t seen him since. So stay alert.’

‘Yes, Alpha,’ Theo responds, ‘One last important piece of information you should know before closing the link. Elle got a flyer for a psychic, “Lady Esmeralda,” who happens to be right around the corner from here, and the girls decided they want to go.’

‘To a psychic?’ I am flabbergasted that Elle would even bother with something that is obviously a scam. ‘Why would Elle want to go to a psychic?’

‘Because Charity asked her to go and seemed excited,’ Theo explains, ‘plus I think Elle is so desperate for answers that she is willing to try anything to get them. She’d never admit it out loud, but I think that has to do with her desire to go.’

‘I guess if I was her, I would do anything short of selling my soul to get some answers,’ I respond, staring down at their table with its three bottles of Tequila and mixer when I see Elle and the other women stand leaving the men alone at the table, as they weave their way through the crowd.

‘Where are the girls going?’ I ask Theo, Slade, and I, growing anxious that Elle is weaving through the crowd with only women for protection. Why aren’t the men going with them?

‘To the restroom.’ is all Theo responds, but I can still hear the shame dripping from his words.

‘Why aren’t any of the men going with?’ I snarl, annoyed that all these men are useless in protecting Elle.

‘We were commanded to stay,’ Is all Theo says, and I cannot help but feel annoyed at Elle’s realization of her Alpha powers.

“Look who is heading straight for Elle,” Andrew interrupts as his elbow jabs me in the arm. Following his finger, I look down below to see rival Alpha Fennick Ward and some of his men making a beeline straight toward Elle, a lustful and deranged look in his eye. What the f**k is he doing?
