The Possessive Alpha -
Chapter 37
Damon POV
As soon as the question leaves Theo’s mouth, my face paling as the color drains. I knew this would happen eventually. That someone in the pack would put the pieces together that things about Elle don’t add up. Even with lots of training, an Omega does not move as gracefully on the training field.
“I take it from your lack of a response that the answer to my question is yes,” Theo mutters as he looks between the three of us, examining our reactions intently.
Slade finally regains his composure from the shock of his question; he pushes forward to make his presence known, “if you care about protecting Elle like you claim Beta, you will not tell a soul what you know. It could be her death.” he growls in that animalistic voice, Slade is preparing to attack when Theo does something that continues to shock us by showing his neck in submission. I expected him to resist; accepting his submission, Slade returns control.
“Okay, are you guys done?” Andrew asks, looking between us. When we both nod and sit back down, Andrew says, “because I just realized something important. If Elle is a firstborn Alpha female, we can look into the packs with one around Elle’s age.” No one says anything for a while as we ponder it over. With the millions of wolves, maybe seventy-five are firstborn Alpha females, making them a coveted asset.
“I don’t know,” Theo says, “Born Lunas are a highly coveted commodity; many packs don’t advertise having one. Any pack that has one is going to go to great lengths to keep theirs protected. Wars have been started over a born Luna.”
“I figured,” I grumble, putting my head in my hands. The exhaustion from staying up all night is starting to get to me, and I know I won’t be able to continue unless I get food and some sleep. “Alright, we all need to sleep, eat, and shower. Don’t worry about school today; I’ll call us off.” I stand about to follow Andrew and Matt out the door when I hear Theo call out.
“Alpha?” Theo asks as he sits in his computer chair, hands folded on his lap. “Can we talk for a second? In private.” I look at Andrew and Matt, who give me questioning looks before I nod, signaling to go on ahead of me and that I’ll catch up. They say nothing in response heading out the door, down the steps, and out of the house.
Theo waits till he hears the door shutting behind them before he speaks to me. “I am probably overstepping here, but you need to fix whatever happened between you and Elle the other morning.”
I sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose, trying to decide how to respond, “Do you know what happened between us?” I ask him, nervous about how much Elle told him.
“No,” he replies, “will you tell me?” his eyes are watching me steadily, waiting to see how I respond to his nosiness.
“Elle wanted to define whatever is going on between us,” I tell him the truth, knowing deep within my gut that he cares about Elle and is doing what he can to protect her like a brother would a sister or a Beta his Luna. “I couldn’t do that. What if I am not her mate? But also, dating an Alpha would bring undue attention to her. I can’t risk anyone finding out who she is.”
“Ahhh, I understand,” he says, nodding his head in acknowledgment. “Unfortunately, I cannot give you those answers, but I will tell you this. You need to tell Elle; about everything.” He says, looking me in the eye.
“I can’t,” I tell him, “And you have to promise me you won’t either, Theo,” I say sternly, flashing my eyes back to black, letting him know I won’t tolerate anything other than an okay from him. I can see the internal struggle he is going through as he and his wolf talk it over.
“Cerebrus says he has no intention of hiding anything from Elle,” Theo says, his face and tone sounding apologetic. “He wants you to know that he is more loyal to Elle than you, and if you don’t tell her what’s going on, he will. He said you have until the night after her birthday. That’ll give you time to get all the information possible to present to her. But we are telling her ourselves if you haven’t told her the next day.”
I stare at Theo, pondering his words for a moment before nodding in agreement. “I promise you and Cerebrus I’ll tell her by then,” I say, holding out my hand, “Truce?” He looks at it for a moment contemplating what he should do before clasping his hand in mine and giving it a vigorous shake.
“Alright,” I say, as my stomach rumbles loudly, telling me I need to get home and get some sustenance. “Get some sleep; we can continue this tomorrow.” Without a backward glance, I walk out of his bedroom and down the steps to the front door, shocked to find Matt and Andrew sitting on the front porch steps waiting for me to get down. I really shouldn’t be surprised they are the nosiest men I have ever met in my life. Matt looks like he is about to ask something, but I shake my head, not wanting Theo’s wolf hearing, or anyone else’s for that matter, to pick up what is being said between us.
Opening up a mindlink between the three of us, Matt asked the question I know Andrew wanted the answer to too. ‘Are you going to tell Elle about her true lineage after her birthday?’ he asks; without hesitation, I say the first thing that comes to mind.
‘I don’t know,’ I reply honestly. ‘There must be a reason my parents kept her identity a secret, right? If I tell her, I might be ruining the precautions they set to keep her safe. ‘I guess it depends on what we can find out about Elle within the next few days, which will help me decide if telling her will help the situation.’
‘Well, judging by the way her aura gets slightly more intense with each passing day, you might not have to tell her because she will figure it out for herself, or a pack member will slip up and tell her,’ Matt grumbles, his eyes barely open as he stumbles groggily next to us.
‘Then we need to do whatever we can to make sure her aura stays hidden from the rest of the pack,’ I say, but as soon as I say the words, I know how stupid it sounds. It’s nearly impossible for an Alpha wolf to reign it in, and that’s when they know how to control it, but Elle is like a radiation bomb, slowly leaking her Alpha energy all over the place with no sense of control. I have no idea how to teach her to hide it when I cannot tell her she is a born luna.
‘I guess you’ll just have to keep her away from the one spot her energy comes out the most,’ Andrew chimed in thoughtfully. It took me two seconds to realize that the place her aura is most potent on the training field. ‘The training field,’ he says, and we all know it.
‘Looks like Elle is gonna get some private lessons from the Alpha,’ Matt adds with a throaty laugh. ‘Or wait, did she already get those in the library?’ he includes before taking off in a sprint laughing the entire time. Andrew and I cannot help but join him.
