The Possessive Alpha -
Chapter 32
Theo POV
I know it’s 6 am, but I couldn’t sleep after Damon and his friends left my house. Cerebrus and I conflicted the whole night over whether or not we should tell Elle about their unexpected arrival on my doorstep. Eventually, Cerebrus won, so I walked up the steps to Elle’s hallway at 6 in the morning to witness her coming down the opposite steps on the other side of the hallway. Her hair is chaotic, and she is wearing clothes that aren’t hers, an indistinguishable fragrance mixed with hers. The sandalwood and eucalyptus of the young Alpha cling to Elle like a visible claim to any males around. I can’t help but smirk until I notice the tears in her eyes, which causes Cerebrus to roar to life, wanting vindication. He didn’t care that she was with Damon, we half expected it to happen sooner or later, but we won’t tolerate him hurting her.
“Elle,” I say, startling her as she hurriedly tries to wipe away the tears falling freely down her face. “Are you okay?”
“Theo,” she says through the tears, “what are you doing here?” she asks as we reach her door, her hand on the handle as if she isn’t sure if she wants to invite me in yet, but I am not leaving here until we talk. I may not understand how I feel for Elle, but I know I’ll never get to the bottom without her help.
“We need to talk,” I say; hopefully, my tone lets her know that I am not going to let this go right now,
“Can this wait till tomorrow?” She asks, and I can tell just by looking at her that she is dealing with whatever Damon’s dumbass did, but this isn’t something that can wait. It needs to be now.
“No, it cannot. It’s urgent and needs to be handled. Can I come in?” I ask, gesturing towards her room, not wanting Damon to find me here, and judging by how she looks and smells, he’ll probably be around soon to apologize his a*s off. I know if he catches me here, I’ll have hell to pay.
“I guess,” She grumbles, but I can tell she knows what I am thinking and why I want to get out of the hallway. As soon as we cross the threshold and close the door, she turns to me, her cheeks slightly pink from embarrassment. “I’d appreciate it if you didn’t tell anyone else about my walk of shame. I know you know who I was with. I probably wreak of his scent.”
“You do, but it doesn’t matter because it’s not my business to tell. Although, I doubt anyone else in the pack would be surprised at the news. Most assume you two are dating already,” I say calmly, like this isn’t some breaking news, but judging by the expression, this is news.
“Seriously? The whole pack?” She sighs, exasperated at finding this out, “what are they doing? Taking bets?” she snorts out, trying to make light of the situation, but the crazy part is how true the statement is. So I say nothing, jamming my hands in my pockets and looking at anything else in the room other than her face.
“Jesus f*****g christ,” she uses a human phrase to voice her displeasure. “Don’t they have anything better to talk about than us?” She asks frantically as she paces before me biting her nails till they are little nubs.
“If Damon weren’t the future Alpha, they probably wouldn’t give your relationship a second thought. I have been in enough packs to know this isn’t a rare phenomenon and is common behavior from pack members with an unmated Alpha male. But he is the future Alpha, and now that he is eighteen, everyone will be anxious for him to find his mate,” I explain to her.
“Well, it doesn’t matter what the pack thinks. Damon doesn’t want anything to do with me,” she whines, and if she weren’t so upset, I’d laugh out loud at her naivety.
“Look, we can deal with that later. Right now, we have more important things to talk about,” I say, trying to distract from the pack betting pool and redirecting us to the real reason I came here at 6 am when I’d rather be sleeping.
“Alright, Theo,” she says, finally stopping pacing to take in the concerned look on my face, “What’s going on?”
“Damon, Andrew, and Matt came by my house last night,” I tell her, deciding the best course of action is to ease into the conversation. The shock on her face tells me he didn’t tell her about his little visit to my house. I promised Damon I wouldn’t say anything to her, but deep down, he has to know I could never hide something this important from Elle. Plus, helping them will help me get all the answers I need, but I respect her too much to keep her in the dark about the situation.
“What?” She asks as the shock forces her to sit in a chair, “Why would they come to see you? Damon doesn’t even like you.”
“Gee, thanks,” I scoff, rolling my eyes at her blunt commentary of Damon and I’s dislike of each other. Which may be true, but I don’t need it pointed out so blatantly.
“It’s not like either of you is shy about it,” she mutters, waving her hand dismissively. “I swear you’d two would kill each other if people weren’t around to stop it.”
“You may be right,” I say, sitting in the armchair opposite hers, leaning forward to give my undivided attention as I tell her what happened the night before. “They came because they want me to help them find the werewolf communities that still affiliate with covens. They’re using me to steal the information they need from my father’s office.”
“Why would they be looking for witches? New Moon doesn’t trust witches enough to partner with them,” she ponders aloud, which was one of the questions I couldn’t find a logical answer for.
“I don’t know. They told me as little information as possible. But they let it slip the reason they are looking for these witches,” I tell her as she looks at me expectantly. “Whatever the reason is, it has to do with you.” That last bit grabbed her interest, her eyes snapping to mine as she tried to determine the truth behind my words.
“Tell me everything you know. Now,” she demands forcefully, her unrelenting emerald eyes watching me like a hawk watches prey leaving me slightly nervous.
“About twenty minutes after I walked into the house, I heard a knock on the door…” I begin the story not leaving out a single detail.
