The Possessive Alpha -
Chapter 18
Damon POV
I’m trying to listen to the ditzy blonde’s story about a mall incident when a headache festers behind my eyes from Slade’s constant pacing. I cannot believe my parents tricked me into this sham of dinner. They told me it was to renegotiate treaties with some of our alliances, but the true motive is to introduce me to she-wolves so I find my mate. I cannot believe my parents did this when my birthday ball is a few weeks away, and I have made it clear I have no interest in finding my mate.
‘Dude, can you chill with the pacing? It’s making listening to this story even more difficult,’ I plead with Slade, who continues like he isn’t listening but responds anyway.
‘We shouldn’t be here. We need to go home to Elle,’ he says, starting to claw at me, desperately attempting to escape. ‘Elle is fine. Andrew is watching over her’ I try to comfort him, but it seems to agitate him more, so he growls at me in contempt. ‘You think your Beta can protect Elle from her stubbornness?’ Slade snorts in disbelief.
‘I have full faith in our Beta,’ I say, but as soon as I say the words, my phone starts buzzing in my pocket. Taking it out, a curse almost escapes my lips when I see ANDREW flashing across the large screen of my iPhone. Without a word to our guests or my parents, I silently leave the table and the restaurant to answer the call.
“What, Beta?” “Where are you?” I snap, my fingers pinching the bridge of my nose. In the background, I hear loud music thumping and teenagers screaming in drunken hysterics.
“That’s what I am calling you about,” Andrew screams into the phone, “I’m at your house!”
“What the f**k do you mean?” I scream back at him, the people in the streets looking at me like I’m a maniac. “Where is Elle?” Slade’s pacing is unbearable, and it’s taking everything in me not to shift into him and run the entire way home.
“She’s fine! You need to get home as soon as possible,” Andrew screams before the line dies. Without thinking, I run towards the woods and let Slade take control, shifting into my large brown wolf so I can run the two hours home.
***********************
Two hours later, Slade finally relents in his onslaught toward our territory. I ignore my father’s constant attempts to connect with me via our link. I am too pissed at him for his and my mother’s meddling in my life. Elle’s, too; I have the impression they know she is throwing a party tonight and is using the opportunity to push her onto Jonah, the jackass.
As I cross into the territory, two of my warriors, Trent and Xavior, alcohol rolling off them in waves causing Slade to growl at their stupidity for going to the party.
‘Go home and sober up. You’re useless to me in this condition,’ I snap at them as they move to follow me further into the territory. Bowing their heads in submission, they throw the clothes they brought in the air, which Slade catches in his mouth quickly.
The closer I get to the house, the louder the music thumps, and the drunken squeals of high school kids fill the night air. What the hell is Elle thinking? Throwing a party in the house when another Alpha and his men are on our land?
As I approach the house, I see Andrew pacing in front of the steps leading into the house. Shifting behind a tree, I dress quickly before descending upon my Beta to scold him for allowing this nonsense.
“What the hell, man?” I say as I shove him in the shoulder, “How could you let this s**t happen?” I throw my arms out, gesturing to the pack of teenagers lingering throughout my yard and the solo cups littered everywhere.
“I am sorry, but it was already in full swing by the time I found out about the party. Elle covered her a*s, man,” he says, the guilt evident in his voice. I can see the shame on his face for not taking care of the problem sooner.
“Why didn’t you order everyone home?” I asked. Even if he learned about the party after it started, he would still have the power to send everyone home.
“I tried, Alpha, but then Elle told the whole party to ignore me, stay, and enjoy themselves. It was weird. It was like whatever I said didn’t matter,” he says. Of course, Elle’s damn Alpha b***d makes her stronger and more in charge than Andrew. I should have realized that would prevent him from stopping this.
‘Stop talking to this i***t, and find Elle,’ Slade growls in my mind, impatient to get Elle away from this mess.
“Where is she?” I ask Andrew as I race up the steps towards the house, with him trailing slightly behind me.
“Last I saw her, she was in the game room playing beer pong with Alpha Jonah and one of the Southerland twins.” Andrew hesitates before continuing his thoughts. “You should know she is pretty drunk.” Hearing that Elle is drunk and with another Alpha sends Slade into a rage, and a loud growl escapes my throat, causing terrified looks from those around me.
“LEAVE!! NOW!!” I scream at them, Slade enjoying watching them scramble and trip over their own feet, rushing their way out of the packhouse. I continue to force my way through the house as students push against me on their way out the door. The closer I get to the game room, the more potent Elle’s cinnamon scent becomes, calming both Slade and me down enough not to rip the entire house apart looking for her. As I near the doorway, I hear Elle giggle at something Jonah says, but I cannot hear what he says over the noise as teenagers scramble to get out the door.
I enter the doorway as Elle takes the winning shot and have to watch her fling her arms around Jonah in celebration of their win against Taylor Southerland and a man I recognize as Jonah’s Beta. Jonah finally notices my presence and releases Elle from his arms once he sees the glare on my face.
“Oh hey man, how have you been?” Jonah asks as he comes towards me with his hand outstretched. Ignoring him and his hand, I continue to glare at him, struggling not to rip off the hand he still has placed on Elle’s back. That’s when I finally notice that Elle is in a scantily clad dress that shows off every curve she has. I send her an appreciative glance before laying my eyes back on Jonah, who still hasn’t moved his hand.
“Jonah, I think it’s time for you to leave,” I force out through gritted teeth, trying to keep my composure so I do not risk ruining the relationship with our longest-held ally.
“No, Jonah, please stay,” Elle pleads, her words slightly slurring. Slade bristles hearing Elle beg this noob to stay here.
“No, Elle, Jonah needs to leave. You’re drunk and need to sleep it off.” I say, my voice stern leaving no room for argument.
“I can stay and help take care of her,” Jonah intercedes, which causes me to growl at him for even offering to help when it’s his fault that she is in this mess in the first place.
“You’ve done enough, Jonah. Get the hell off of my territory,” I say, my voice as hard as steel. Without thinking, I scoop Elle into my arm and throw her over my shoulder, ignoring her protests and fists beating down on my back. Without another word, I turn on my heel, Elle’s screams filling the hallway, causing stares and whispers from others as I climb up the stairs to my bedroom.
