The Lycan Series -
The Lycan King’s Breeder Chapter 7
Avalyn's
POV
I felt the fog of confusion cloud my head. My brain was groggy, the ringing in my head getting louder and louder with each passing second. I didn't even remember passing out. I tried to open my eyes but it felt like my muscles were paralyzed, I couldn't move a I heard light sounds and murmurs coming from somewhere in the room but I couldn't place where. Where was I? And why did it smell weird in here? Like dried herbs.
single thing.
I finally gathered enough strength to raise my left hand and rest it on my head, the intense painful throbbing hitting me like a freight train. It hurt to even think. The heavy dose of fatigue set into my body, causing even the slightest movement to make me wince in pain. Where the hell was I?
There was a sudden whisper coming from right beside me, I could make out two voices and they both sounded like women. Doctor's maybe?
"...she isn't doing good... no, I don't think she can..."
My ears pricked and I wondered what they were talking about and if I was the one they meant.
"...we need to tell him... can conceive..."
Huh? Conceive... who were they going on about?
"...she has to get better first..."
"...maybe there's a chance. I can brew up a potion that might work... pregnancy... she can carry...
What? Potions? They were not doctors. Who were they even talking about?
I didn't mean to eavesdrop on their conversation, deciding to give them their privacy, I thought back to everything that had happened. But the moment I tried to bring myself to think, my head began hurting again.
My mind completely went blank. I clenched my eyes and tried to wait out the throbbing. Slowly, the pain died down and memories started flowing back to me.
Oh, right. I was in the werewolf territory.
My father had sold me into misery, proving further that I never mattered to him. What was a human like me supposed to do here with these potion women? Help out with house chores? Did werewolves even need maids?
I took a sharp breath as I clenched my hands tightly together. My heart ached so much, I couldn't even bring myself to take another breath.
How could he? How could my father do this to me? I was his only blood-related child. His daughter. And he sold me to a bunch of monsters. They could kill me at any given moment and nobody would know. I was so screwed.
I finally managed to slowly peel open my eyes and was immediately blinded by the bright light.
I squinted, trying to adjust my eyes to the brightness of the room. Fear gripped my body as I made eye contact with an unfamiliar face, it was a woman. She had her black hair and thick glasses resting on the bridge of her nose. She didn't particularly look threatening, but something about her aura made me tremble.
"Guys, she's awake!" The strange woman is hushed.
"You think we woke her up?" Someone asked from behind me but I couldn't see their face.
"I don't know, but we definitely contributed..." The woman in front of me said with a tired sigh. She slowly began walking towards me. "Relax... we're not going to hurt you." She assured me, but I wasn't buying it.
I groaned at the pain that coursed through my body as I tried to get up from the bed.
"Who... who are you... what-" I croaked out.
My throat burned as I tried to speak, the scratchiness causing me to fall into an intense coughing fit. A hand from behind immediately offered me a glass of water, I snatched it before my brain could tell me otherwise, gulping the content with careless abandon. The water brought a huge relief to my burning throat and I felt a tad bit better.
"Thanks," I whispered my appreciation to nobody in particular.
The person behind me took a few steps and was now directly in front of the bed I was laying on, and only then did I realize who he was. It was the man that had brought me here from my father's house, I remembered his name was Mr. Greg. He extended his right hand and took the glass cup still clutched in my hands and placed it down on the bedside table I hadn't even noticed was beside my bed.
I didn't even remember how I'd ended up here. I remembered getting into Mr. Greg's car, anxiety and fear coursing through me. Staring out the window, I watched the shadows beyond the treeline dance around within my vision and the droplets of rain cascading down the window... then my vision became blurry and I must have passed out.
"How're you feeling Avalyn?" Mr. Greg asked. His intimidating voice made my head swirl.
It took a moment before I answered.
"I... I don't know, fine. wh-where am I?" I stuttered, looking around frantically, to see if anything around the room would seem familiar to me. But nothing was.
"You're in southern ridge territory. The capital state for where you humans once called America," he said as a matter of fact. "This is Lydia," he pointed to the woman with the glasses. "And that's-"
"I'm Dawn." A chirpy voice from behind me suddenly said, cutting him off. I didn't even know someone else was in the room beside us three. They had been so quiet, I hadn't noticed them.
"That's Dawn. My sister." Mr. Greg repeated with an eye roll, "You'll be placed under her care. So whatever you need, you let her know."
"What...?" I drawled in confusion. I still had no idea what this place was and who these people were. They were all talking so fast that I didn't understand anything they were going on about.
The woman, Lydia, looked at me with a sympathetic smile on her face and came to take a sit on the very edge of the bed.
"It's all right, you're still disoriented from the ride here. I get it if you don't understand what's going on, but trust me. You're completely safe." She assured, running her knuckles down my cheek, and only then did I realize tears has started falling from my eyes again. "I don't know what you want from me.... I just want to go home, please." I cried desperately, hoping they'd listen.
Lydia sighed and withdrew her hand. I noticed there were weird shapes tattooed on her arm. She must have caught me staring, because she smiled and said, "They're runes."
Making me even more confused, I had no idea what runes were. I honestly just wanted to go home.
"You should get her something to eat," she said, gesturing to the other person behind me, Dawn, I think that was her name.
I turned around as I heard movement behind me, and saw that Dawn was indeed a girl my age. She had reddish brown hair that went past her waist, and her crystal blue eyes stared right back at me, only breaking eye contact when she left the room. She looked friendly enough, hopefully, she actually was. I turned back around and looked at Mr. Greg.
He didn't look that old now that I was looking at him closely but at the moment, I cared less.
"Why am I here... what's going on?" I whispered shakily.
"In a matter of time, you'll find out. It is not my place to reveal that to you now," he said as he turned to address Lydia. "She'll be here any moment now to check up on the girl. Make sure Avalyn is ready before she gets here." He commanded gruffly. "Yes beta," Lydia replied with a small bow.
She got up from the bed and walked to the other side of the room where a sack lay open. Its content is scattered around the floor. She picked up a vial with a blue liquid in it and began tinkering with the different containers on the floor.
"What is she doing?" I whispered to Mr. Greg who stood watching her as well.
"Making something to help you get better faster. As we don't have much time to waste." He replied. His answer still not clearing the cloud of confusion in my mind.
"....what? Time for what? I don't understand." I tried again, hoping he'd explain better or something.
But he didn't.
"And who's coming to check up on me?" I asked again but Mr. Greg said nothing.
He walked over to Lydia who was still busy with whatever it was she was doing and they both started conversing in hushed whispers, making me unable to hear what there were saying.
A few moments later, the door to the room slammed open, revealing Dawn. In one hand was a tray of food, perfectly balanced. She walked straight towards the bed and dropped the tray on the bedside table, next to the glass. Then she walked over to the window and tossed the white curtains aside, brightening up the room a little bit.
Greg and Lydia then walked up to my bed, each standing directly opposite the other. Greg took the tray of food and placed it on the bed, close to my legs.
"You should eat up," he said calmly.
I looked down at the tray and back up at him. "I'm not hungry." I lied. I definitely was hungry, but I had no idea what these people were offering me. What if it was poisoned?
"It's not poisoned," Lydia suddenly said, dragging me out of my thoughts. It was as if she could read my mind.
"It's not poisoned if that's why you're worried. We just need you to eat something and get your strength back."
"I just want to go home." I sniffed.
Feeling another wave of tears welling up. I buried my face in my hands and let it all out.
"Why can't I just go home?" I asked, but no one answered me.
I looked up as I felt a sudden drastic change in the atmosphere.
All of a sudden, everyone stopped talking. Even Lydia seemed uncomfortable, her bubbly and kind nature drained away as she moved closer to Greg.
Greg himself was standing up straight as he always did. Even Dawn who had just been relaxed and carefree had taken on a more professional demeanor. They all stood firm as if waiting for their next order.
What was going on? I heard footsteps approaching. Two... maybe three people?
A beautiful blond-haired woman entered the room, two men accompanying her. They stood behind her as if for protection.
I had never seen a woman move the way she did, graceful, yet with a merciless glint that lay behind her gorgeous ocean-blue eyes. She was across the room, but even the aura that seemed to surround her showed the power she held, and it terrified me. She glanced over at me and my breath froze instantly.
"Luna!" Greg, Lydia, and Dawn greeted the woman in respect.
The beautiful woman acknowledged them with a simple nod, not once breaking eye contact with me.
"Hello, Avalyn."
