Love Story6-Chapter 1

That afternoon, Alex messaged me, inviting me to a dinner at a seaside restaurant. My heart pounded like a war drum. Just last week, I'd found a diamond ring in Alex's wardrobe-a sparkling design that matched my tastes. Today, however, the ring was gone. Stuck in traffic, I called to explain I'd be a bit late, not wanting to keep him waiting. I grew impatient, so I left the taxi and sprinted over in heels. Just as I reached the private room's entrance, slightly out of breath, I overheard Alex chatting with his friends inside.

"Vivian Morgan? It's been seven years. I've lost that initial thrill with her; she's boring now," Alex scoffed, and a friend teased, "Really? She was the school beauty back in the day-such a killer body, too!" Another laughed, "Mr. Carter, didn't you go crazy over her back then? You even snuck out at midnight to beat me up, just to keep her away from any other guy! And you're already bored of her?" Alex took a drag of his cigarette, chuckling, "You're an idiot. Can you blame me? Eating the same meal every day for seven years- who wouldn't get tired? Go ahead, Bob, if you want her, take her. I'll even throw a party to thank you for getting this headache off my back."

Laughter rippled through the room. "Come on, man. Chasing a woman Mr. Carter's already tossed aside? Have some pride." I took a deep breath and pushed open the door. Everyone fell silent, glancing awkwardly at one another. Alex grinned at me nonchalantly, "Vivian, perfe ct timing. Let's get this over with -I've fallen for someone else.

Let's break up." I asked, "Alex, we've been together for seven years. Are you sure?" He shrugged, "It's called the seven-year itch, isn't it? I've got the itch bad. I just don't feel that passion for you anymore." I responded, "Fine, just don't regret it."

As I left the room and closed the door, I caught snippets of a betting game going on behind me. "How long do you think she'll hold out? Two days? Three?" "T'I play it safe-beting five days.

Wanna join?" "I'll bet three days, ten bottles of Maotai on the line." Alex's cold, indifferent voice chimed in, tapping his fingers on the table, "She'll come crawling back in less than two days. I know her too well. It's exhausting-no personal space at al." I paused, let out a self-deprecating laugh, and quickly left the restaurant.
