Chapter 4

Stephen had once deleted all of Ophelia's contact information right in front of me. I had no idea when he and Ophelia had started speaking again. Looking at the spread of food before me, I felt a wave of nausea, utterly losing my appetite. Just as I was about to clean up, my mom called.

"Rosalie, your dad fell!"

"Mom, don't panic. I'm coming right now!"

I immediately called 911 and rushed to my parents' home. My dad had already lost consciousness, but the ambulance was still nowhere in sight. My mom was in tears beside me, and while trying to comfort her, I dialed Stephen's number. "Sorry, the number you're calling is currently unavailable..." I called repeatedly, but each time, there was no answer. Panic set in as I desperately scrolled and dialed again. "Hello?"

"Stephen, my dad fell! Please, come help him!"

"I'll be right there!"

Hearing the call end, I was stunned - that voice wasn't Stephen's.

Theodore Thomas carried my dad on his back and drove us to the hospital. After emergency treatment, my dad was moved to the ICU. A few more days of monitoring, and he'd be ready to transfer to a regular ward.

After settling my mom, I stepped out. Theodore was there, talking to the doctor about something. When he saw me, he nodded to the doctor and walked over.

"Thank you, Theodore!"

"It's nothing. We're family, and I-"

"What?"

"Nothing. You should get some rest. I'll head out now."

It was clear Theodore wanted to say something, but he glanced at me only briefly before leaving. Theodore, Stephen's adopted brother, and I had only met a few times. He and Stephen didn't have the best relationship, so they rarely stayed in touch. But thankfully, he was there this time, and he wasn't nearly as terrible as Stephen had described him.

As I was wondering how to thank Theodore, my mom asked me to go home and bring back some fresh clothes. Heading toward the elevator, I spotted Stephen standing by a window. "Ste-"
