"Yes!"

Dahlia remained silent throughout. She leaned against Charles, and before entering, she turned back to glance at Evelyn, a small smile playing on the corners of her lips.

Evelyn clenched her fists. With just one word from Charles, she was shut out.

Evelyn found a spot directly opposite the door, stood by a pillar, and waited for Brooks to come out.

The rain was pouring heavily, and the umbrella couldn't cover her completely. A lot of rain showered on her back, quickly soaking her. She shivered from the cold, looking miserable and pitiful. Yet she still stood there determinedly, her gaze fixed steadfastly on the hotel's entrance.

Aiden approached with an umbrella. "Ms. Evelyn, Mr. Jenkins asked me to take you home."

"I won't leave." Evelyn coldly refused.

After speaking, she ignored Aiden and quietly waited for Brooks.

Aiden couldn't persuade Evelyn, and called Charles. "Mr. Jenkins, Ms. Evelyn refuses to leave."

"Let her be." Charles' tone was extremely cold as he hung up.

Aiden left.

...

On a cold, rainy winter night, the chilly wind was piercing.

Even though Evelyn was wearing a coat, her legs were bare under the dress, leaving her shivering. Her entire body was stiff from the cold.

Time passed. She didn't know how long she waited. Finally, Brooks' figure appeared in her line of sight.

Evelyn's eyes brightened, and she hurriedly walked towards him. "Mr. Brooks..."

Her legs were numb from the cold, and just as she reached Brooks, she stumbled, her body lurching forward unsteadily.

Brooks immediately extended his arms. "Careful."

Evelyn fell into his embrace and was caught fully in his arms.

"Mr. Brooks, I'm sorry." After steadying herself, Evelyn, with an embarrassed face, stepped back from his embrace.

"Get in the car first."

Brooks watched Evelyn, shivering from the cold, and his face darkened. He then gently guided her into the car with a supportive hand. "Mr. Brooks..." Once in the car, Evelyn couldn't wait to speak.

"Have some hot tea first to warm up." Brooks poured her a cup of hot tea and handed it to her.

"Thank you."

Evelyn took it and tried a sip. The temperature was just right. She drank several sips in succession. Her body was slowly warming up. After calming down, Evelyn found it much more difficult to speak. Her hands, holding the cup, clenched tightly.

"Is there something you need help with?" Brooks took the initiative to speak.

"Yes! Mr. Brooks, could you lend me

"Okay." Brooks interrupted Evelyn's somewhat incoherent words due to her eagerness and embarrassment with a gentle voice. "What?" Evelyn was taken aback.

Brooks did not say much and

directly took out a checkbook. He pulled out a pen from his pocket. It was then Evelyn realized Brooks was actually willing to lend her the money. en FindNovel

She immediately stopped Brooks. "Mr. Brooks, could you transfer it to my account?"

She explained awkwardly, "I'm in urgent need, and at this time, I can't cash a check."

"Okay." Brooks put away the checkbook and gave his assistant a look.

The assistant asked for Evelyn's account details and quickly transferred the money into her account.

After receiving the money, Evelyn immediately called John. They arranged a meeting place, and she pushed open the car door, ready to go out.

"I'll take you." Brooks spoke up, stopping Evelyn.

"Mr. Brooks..."

The assistant wanted to remind him that he had an important engagement later, but Brooks quelled him with a look.

"Will it delay you?"

"No, it's fine." Brooks' voice was gentle.

"Thank you." Evelyn didn't refuse any further.

The rain was too heavy, and it was difficult to hail a cab at this place and time.

...

The car sped through the rainy night.

Evelyn looked out at the fleeting street scenes through the window and clasped her clothes tightly struggling to keep her emotions in check.

Forty minutes later, the Maybach stopped at the arranged place.
