Charles' once stern expression softened instantly, and he agreed without hesitation. "Of course!"

As soon as he finished the call, he turned and left briskly without hesitation.-

Once again, he chose the daughter he had with Dahlia, leaving Charlie behind.

Evelyn stood still, clutching the urn tightly to her chest and gently patting it in a tender motion as she silently comforted her daughter.

Ever since Dahlia returned from abroad with Sandy, Charles had shown them absolute favoritism. He would rush over immediately at their mere call, no matter how late or what he was doing. Evelyn didn't mind being neglected, but her heart ached for her Charlie.

She was so good and so understanding. Yet, her father had hurt her time and again.

Fortunately, this was the last time.

...

Central Hospital, VIP Ward

Charles entered with a chill in the air.

Dahlia was soothing Sandy. When she saw him, she asked in surprise, "Charles, what are you doing here? Didn't you say you were going to make up for Charlie's birthday this morning?"

She immediately realized her mistake and looked sternly at her daughter on the bed. She scolded, "Sandy, did you secretly call your dad again?"

"Daddy..."

Sandy threw herself into Charles' arms, looking up at him with teary eyes. Her voice quivered as she whined softly, "I get scared when you're not around."

Charles held Sandy gently, patted her back to comfort her, and said to Dahlia, "Sandy's only five. It's normal for her to be scared of staying in the hospital. I'm not going anywhere today. I'll stay here with her. As for Charlie... there will be other opportunities." His words made Dahlia think of her daughter's condition, and she couldn't bear to scold her any further.

She tenderly touched her daughter's face, then turned to Charles, her eyes full of gratitude. "Charles, we're so lucky you found a matching kidney for Sandy. Without you, I fear Sandy might have..."

Her voice trailed off as tears quickly filled her eyes. She was on the verge of crying.

"I'm here. Nothing will happen to Sandy," Charles promised tenderly.

"Charles, it's so good to have you." Dahlia choked up, leaning into Charles' shoulder.

Charles gently patted her back, and as Dahlia wrapped her arms around his waist, he stood up and said, "I'll go talk to the specialist team about Sandy's condition. Take Sandy downstairs to play for a bit. I'll come find you later." "Daddy, come back soon."

With Sandy's sweet voice behind him, Charles left the ward and entered the elevator.

As the elevator doors closed on his side, another set of doors opened, and Evelyn hurriedly stepped out. She went straight to the office of Charlie's attending physician.

"Ms. Evelyn, you can't go in there."

Ignoring the nurse's protest, Evelyn barged in. She rushed to the doctor, her eyes red, pleading, "Dr. Schules, please tell me, who took Charlie's kidney?"

If Charlie's kidney hadn't been suddenly taken away, she wouldn't have died.

"Dr. Schules, please." When Dr. Schules remained silent, Evelyn suddenly knelt on the floor. She was willing to do anything to get an answer.

"Ms. Evelyn, please don't do this. I honestly don't know," Dr. Schules said quickly, helping Evelyn up. His words sounded sincere.

Staring at Evelyn, who had rapidly lost weight in just a few days, he sighed deeply. He felt deep sympathy for Evelyn.
