Charlie never heard Charlie's side, and he repeatedly blamed Charlie by accusing her of lying. He scolded Charlie for being dishonest, blamed her for being prone to lying at such a young age, and called her a bad child. Talk about a double standard!

The only time Charlie lied was while waiting for her dad, who stood her up, and it cost her life.

But in Charles' eyes, Charlie was such a bad child.

Evelyn's eyes reddened with anger as she glared at Charles and coldly questioned, "Charles, isn't Charlie a kid too? Why did you always criticize her for lying?"

"How can Charlie even compare to Sandy!" The words that Charles blurted out chilled Evelyn to the bone.

This was his true feeling. In his heart, the daughter borne by his beloved was perfect in every way. Sandy was as flawless as Dahlia, while Charlie, like her mother, was deemed unworthy in every aspect.

Evelyn felt a deep pain. It felt like her heart was being torn apart, and yet she laughed, a laugh that didn't reach her eyes.

She just stared at Charles and said emphatically, "Sandy doesn't even come close to my girl!"

How could such a child, who lies so easily and knows how to frame others at such a young age, compare to her sweet and adorable Charlie?

Evelyn truly felt sorry for Charlie.

Her daughter loved her dad so much, but her dad only loved Sandy, Dahlia's child. He did not have a spot for her.

As a mother, Evelyn's heart ached until her eyes welled up with tears. She felt so sorry for her daughter. "You are the reason she..."

Just as Evelyn mentioned that Charlie had passed away, Dahlia suddenly grasped Charles' arm tightly. She stared at her swollen and reddened right hand, crying out in fear, "Charles, is my hand ruined? Will I never be able to draw again?" Charles' attention was immediately drawn to Dahlia, and he did not hear what Evelyn said next.

He looked at Dahlia's hand and soothed her gently, "I won't let anything happen to you. I'm taking you to the hospital now. Don't worry."

Charles carried Dahlia in his arms and walked out.

Sandy, ever so sweet and clever, clung to Charles' hem, following him out.

As they passed by Evelyn, Charles said in an extremely cold tone, "You better pray Dahlia's hand is fine."

Charles left with Dahlia.

Evelyn was unfazed. She and the remaining six contestants immediately went ahead with the design competition. She performed great, and secured the last spot in the jewelry design contest.

...

Evelyn left the Skyline Tower, and was heading to the subway entrance when a motorcycle sped towards her.

Evelyn saw it coming, didn't dodge, and just stood there, watching the rider perform a beautiful drift and stop the bike right in front of her.

The tall and lean man on the motorcycle propped the bike with his long legs and removed his helmet with one hand, revealing his overly attractive face.

His beautiful eyes were focused at Evelyn. His eyebrow was playfully raised. "Hey, beautiful, hop on. Let me take you for a ride."

It was Adam, her only friend from the orphanage.

At eight years old, the orphanage director sold Evelyn to a pedophile. When she was taken advantage of, Adam rushed in recklessly, knocked the pedophile unconscious, and escaped the orphanage with her. He hid her to protect her and drew away the people chasing them by himself.

When Evelyn came to the orphanage with Rosa, she saw Adam again. He was beaten bloody and barely breathing. Even then, he didn't disclose her hiding place.

"Adam, do you think you're looking particularly handsome right now?" Evelyn was not impressed.

"Evelyn, watch your words. What do you mean, I think? I am devastatingly handsome!" Adam flicked his bangs.

Evelyn didn't respond but gestured him closer with her finger. Adam bent down.

She lifted her hand to the back of Adam's head, turning it clockwise towards the bike's mirror, and said seriously, "Indeed, devastatingly so!"

"Damn!" Adam saw his reflection. His hair was a complete mess, and he couldn't help but curse.

His handsomeness didn't last three seconds.

He hurriedly put his helmet back on. This was ruining his image.

Evelyn couldn't help but smile.

"Hop on." Adam spoke gruffly, leaning over to hand Evelyn a helmet.

Suddenly, his movement paused. He noticed a smaller pink helmet for children under Evelyn's adult-sized pink helmet.

Adam's nose tingled, and his eyes reddened. It was the birthday present he prepared for Charlie.

He missed Charlie's birthday because of training. He couldn't take leave, so he had ordered this helmet in advance, and planned to take Charlie for a ride once she was healthy after her surgery. But he never got the chance.

"Charlie would have been so happy to see this gift." Evelyn patted Adam's shoulder and comforted him.

Charlie's death devastated her, but she couldn't drown in sorrow forever. Charlie wouldn't want to see her mom like this.

Evelyn remembered how, on Charlie's second birthday, she made a wish like a little adult. She hoped her mom would be happy.

Adam quickly adjusted his emotions, stood up, and handed the helmet to Evelyn.

As Evelyn was about to put it on, Adam suddenly cursed, "Those bastards."

Evelyn paused. Instinctively, she looked up, following Adam's gaze.

She saw Charles' car parked opposite the Skyline Tower at the hospital entrance. Inside, Charles was leaning over to kiss Dahlia.
